Obama Launches ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ to Help young Minority Men.....

if the economic system has abondoned these people, the government has a moral obligation to save them.

The government has removed the black community from the economy with government handouts.

I've been employed my entire adult life. You people enjoy calling me stupid. By your logic, it must not be that hard for a black person to get and keep a job.

then maybe there are not enough people willing to hire people who have unemployed for months?

President Barack Obama will announce a $200 million commitment from nine foundations on Thursday afternoon to bolster the lives of young men and boys of color...

..So what are your thoughts with this?

My thoughts are that this is a good sign about how the mid-term elections may go. Obama is desperate to motivate that 95% of 13% of the population that was so important to elect him to have a reason to vote one more time. If the dems loose the Senate Obama won't even be able to end his term in a stalemate. If the Dems loose the senate Obama will effectively end up as the most failed president since Jimmy Carter. And that being said, even Jimmy Carter was able to pull off the camp David accords, so I give him that. What will Obama's legacy be? Affordable healthcare that even his most ardent fans won't sign up for because it sucks?

In spirit, I think it's a great idea. It's the execution that I'm skeptical about.

If the program offers advice such as, "get you head out of your ass, man up and get a ****ing job", then I believe it has a chance at significant success.

If it does nothing more than promote the same Leftist victicrat mentality, then it will add fodder to the already through the roof crime rate in the black community.

Such optimism is inspiring...let us all commit to derail anything meant to help our society.

Success is an absolute.

Maybe there are too many people in the black community who aren't willing to go find a job? At some point, you have to place the blame on the black community. The, "it's everybody else's fault", meme only has so much gas.

The longest I've gone without working is three weeks and that was a period in between jobs. I had the new job two days after I left the old job, but...thanks to the government regulations...I had to jump through a couple of hoops to finally go to work. The company wouldn't let me go to work until I had a valid TWIC; mine had expired.

I just can't help believing that someone who has any amount of ambition can find a job doing, something.

I'm more in favor of derailing government programs that create even more problems. As I pointed out, no one knows what this latest one will do.

Let's face it, government programs don't have a great track record.

maybe they abandoned all hope for finding a job because no one was hiring.

at some point the economic situation we created has to be addressed

President Barack Obama will announce a $200 million commitment from nine foundations on Thursday afternoon to bolster the lives of young men and boys of color.

The funding is part of a larger initiative from the White House to bring private businesses, nonprofits and local governments together to intervene in key moments in the lives of young black and Hispanic men to ensure they stay in school and eventually train for and get good jobs.

As Yahoo News first reported, the cause will be a major focus of Obama’s — and the first lady’s — even after he leaves office. "It’s something that's deeply personal to the president and first lady,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president and the Obamas’ closest friend from Chicago. “I’m sure their commitment to this initiative will be a lifelong commitment. This is not something they simply want to do while he’s in office — it will continue.”

The president personally ordered his senior staff to come up with this new “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative in the wake of the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin two years ago. Obama — who was criticized by civil rights leaders for avoiding race-based initiatives and conversations while in office — was deeply moved by Martin’s death, and he tasked his staff with creating a holistic, research-based approach to helping young minority boys succeed and avoid violence.

The president will create a new interagency My Brother’s Keeper Task Force headed by Broderick Johnson, the Cabinet secretary and assistant to the president. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Attorney General Eric Holder, Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and other senior officials will be personally involved in “My Brother’s Keeper,” according to Jarrett.

Young black men persistently lag behind other groups in high school graduation rates and employment, and, as White House officials point out, they are six times more likely than their white peers to be murdered.

"My Brother's Keeper" is one part of Obama's larger plan to tackle issues facing the African-American community in his second term, the president told civil rights leaders in a meeting last week. Obama will also push Congress to restore the part of the Voting Rights Act struck down by the Supreme Court last term and to pass a law banning racial profiling by law enforcement. The Justice Department is also pushing through criminal justice reforms without Congress' help, such as urging prosecutors not to use mandatory minimums against nonviolent drug offenders and encouraging prisoners sentenced under old, racially discriminatory crack laws to apply for a new clemency program.

“He’s committed to being more aggressive,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, who was in the meeting.....snip~

Obama launches

So what are your thoughts with this? Says to help minority men of color......as you can see Obama is looking to garner the vote for the Democrats. Thru this means here. Not much is highlighted about Hispanics and Latins. Nor does it say much about any other minorities.

This was a Chicago Program.....that Bloomberg copied off Emanuel and the city here. Emanuel was out all this morning touting how happy that Obama extended this to National Program. Yes 200 mil and Jarrett conforms they will get more. Now what do you think takes place for all those they do for?

Division.....101. Democrat Style!

Wouldn't it be more appropriate for the President of all the people talk about helping all at risk children.

Hyperpartisans have grilled Obama about how black unemployment is the worst it's been in decades, that (often perceived) black crime and violence are up, and that Democrats are trying to keep black people down ("on the plantation") so they can be assured their votes (of course, how intentionally subjugating black people would make them more likely to vote for Democrats is something they can't explain). It has been explicitly stated here that the Democrats are intentionally keeping the black community largely poor.

So now Obama actually does something to address the problems facing young minority men in this country, and shockingly enough, it's attacked by hyperpartisans as just a vote grab.

When you figure out that part about using an EO to bring this.....when none was needed. Then you might actually know something about Politics. Until then.....tis the usual bias that you present 98% of the time.

I am a partisan, partisan Democrat. I am also tired of crass political BS about us versus them.

Other partisans like yourself only care about cheap party politics.

Is this a joke? I'm explicitly condemning the "cheap party politics."

Okay.

You're the last person on the planet to be attempting to lecure me about "bias."

I have rarely if ever seen you post anything partisan Democrat, as you claim.
But I have seen you post this garbage calling out 'fellow liberals' for crass political BS about us versus them and cheap party politics.
Did President Obama miss a golden chance to bring the Nation together with 'poor' white faces with his "Brother's Keeper" ?

Yeah that's great.....you're condemning Cheap party Politics on Site made for Political Debate and Discussion.

Well.....one things a fact. I have a proven track record of getting into with Conservatives around here. Way more than you get into it with those you Identify with on the left.....and that's Fact. So when it comes to levels of Bias. I would say mine is a bit more tolerable than yours.

Perhaps part of the problem is separating Americans into the "black community" and the "white community".

I would agree. However, the only other option for the is to make everyone poor. Creating more black middle classers isn't an option for the Libbos.

Well, let's slow down; Obama hasn't done anything.

He suggested a plan that, on the surface, sounds like a good idea. We have to see how it's implemented to know if it's any count.

OK, sorry for my mistake.

If we don't treat the blacks as a separate entity, then that makes everyone poor???

And who are these "libbos" who don't want blacks to be middle class? A lot of them already are middle class, and a lot of whites are poor.

That's the point: It's not the "black community" that is in trouble. It is the poor community that is in trouble.

Is throwing money at a problem going to solve anything? History, especially in the education industry suggests no.

If the problem is having too much money lying around, then it solves the problem, otherwise, no.

But, if successful people can say, "Look, I was in your position once, and I still succeeded. If I can do it, so can you," then that could save a few of them.
Unless, of course, they listen to the failures saying, "The deck is stacked against you kid. Give up. You can make money selling weed or something."
