Fraternity expels 3 linked to statue noose, suspends Ole Miss chapter

then simply call it an act of racism, and leave the far less pejorative term of stupidity out of it. These racists knew exactly what they were doing.

Because the evidence indicates that they thought it would be funny and wouldn't hurt anyone or anything. If they wanted to be racially malicious, they would have spray painted the N-word on a wall or the statue. The act itself was one of stupidity, but it was just a prank, regardless of racial overtones.

Not gonna repeat myself any more so, I'm done here. :)

And some insist racism is dead in America

Racism is alive and well in America. Just look at all of the recent "knock out game" attacks against Whites, Asians and Jews in New York City to know that there is plenty of racism in this country.

What could their intent be in placing a noose around a statue of a guy who desegregated the University of Mississippi?

By the way, even Diana thinks it was racist.

Ahh, the standard Far Right refrain of 'the only racism that exists in this country is black people picking on us poor white folks!':lamo

Racism does not depend on the intent. Ever. Racism depends on the act.

What a load of crap. So if a guy says, "boy I tell ya..." to a black man, that's racism - even if he has no idea that you're not supposed to say "boy" to a black man.

In your effort to be some sort of bogus contrarian, you come off looking foolish.

So which is worse, some idiot frat boys putting a noose on a statue or some strong young men hitting people, many of the women, in the head in a game to see who can knock out the most people in a single punch? Oh, and lets not forget that the targets are selected based on their race.

The problem with the far left is that there are no standards on the definition of racism. Especially when the racism does not fit into their narrative.

What evidence is there of any of that? If they had sprayed the N-word on the statue, the same people would be making excuses for that.

They did something dumb, no matter what their reasons were, and now they are paying the consequences. I'm OK with judging them by what they did and letting them take their medicine.

I don't care what their intend was. They vandalized a school statue and that is never right.
I dont think you can really say placing something ON the stature (draping the items over the statue) qualifies as 'vandalism'. However...even if their intent was joking, it was a racist act (one might tell a racist joke because they were being careless and stupid, not necessarily because they were racist). As such...actions have consequences. So...good on the charter for kicking them out. Maybe the lesson will sink in before they do something more foolish and maybe cause someone some actual harm.

How do you know?

Reading your posts for the last few years. You don't have a clue about black people other than what you've read or somebody told you. You fool nobody.

Where's your "evidence"? I've seen nothing in any of the news stories that said the idiots thought their actions wouldn't hurt anyone. I did read the account by the 64 year old white guy who said seeing the noose on Meredith's statue changed him and his way of thinking. It's in one of the links I posted earlier. Lots of racists think that their actions are "funny" or a joke - doesn't change the fact that their "jokes" are based on their racism

I bet it's a relief knowing that this topic of discussion will never, ever lead to any kind of actions that could possibly threaten your superiority as a white person.

Inb4 you ask me how I know you're white--because hey, there is a very slight chance that you're not.

Whatever. Either you're trying to play devil's advocate or you hate what you see in the mirror everyday. Pick one.

You're not the first one with Vanilla Ice syndrome. You won't be the last.

I lived in Mississippi when segregation was the law of the land. If the noose was a joke, why aren't I laughing?

Man, you sound like me several years ago. Like every single white person who has ever been confronted with his or her white privilege and vehemently denies it, the defenses of my position were laughably absurd. What you don't understand is that it is this white privilege that allows you to talk like you did and get away with it.

I will repost something I said earlier. I invite you to read the article with an open mind. If you refuse to because it's "politically correct" or "offensive" or "too liberal" or whatever else excuse that isn't legit, then you will have outright proven my point. Because just about every possible objection that could be raised has already been addressed by the author.

Man oh man oh man. There are fewer things in life more reliable than the emotional fragility of white people when their white privilege is called out. Apsdt, you think I'm black?! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, learn to read.

For the few of you who are actually willing and able to do this thing called LISTEN, here is a nice summary of what it means to be a white person (and a straight male one at that). Dear racism deniers: It is physically impossible for you to raise any objections that that author did not address in his follow-up threads. But some of you will try. And, like the butthurt commentors, you too will fail miserably.

I think I'm just gonna sit back for the next round of posts and munch on popcorn. This ought to be quite entertaining.

I "act white"?

All black folks think alike? No exceptions?

Show me exactly where I even suggested that.

You et. al. are questioning my authenticity, because I don't think like you think a black dude should think.

I would like to know where you get off believing that all of us fir neatly into this PC cookie cutter mold you've created.

Well, you may be the only 'black' guy ever who thinks the KKK is a benign organization and the wrong side won the civil war. And I use the term 'black' as loosely as possible.
