Tom Perkins' big idea: The rich should get more votes

I have asked the question before should those who pay more income taxes get more votes seeing how they contribute more.

Tom Perkins' big idea: The rich should get more votes - Feb. 14, 2014
[h=2]Tom Perkins suggested Thursday that only taxpayers should have the right to vote -- and that wealthy Americans who pay more in taxes should get more votes.[/h]

So do you support this idiocy or are you hiding behind the Glenn Beck Defense?

Their own wealth you mean. America doesn't own it. And we have a democracy system of choosing our republican decision makers, not plutocracy. A rich persons vote is equal to a poor persons. Although poor people elect rich people to represent them, for some reason. I don't imagine anyone would support his idea, but theres some merit to the alternative idea that if you don't pay taxes, you shouldn't vote.

There is absolutely no merit to that anti-American and unconstitutional idea.

I believe every American should get a vote.

You realize these are diametrically opposite statements, right?

He was a no name senator before the media stepped in.

Why should they do that?
Taxes, baby....taxes. Let people see just who pays for what and maybe just maybe slow the never ending class warfare that goes on. The rich can afford to not earn bank for a bit it and the rest can afford to have their eyes opened.

Call me crazy, but I do consider the wealthy generally to be more apt politically given their relatively greater "skin in the game."

Tom Perkins, given his criminally ignorant comparison of redistributionist rhetoric to antisemitic Nazi rhetoric, defies the above statement.

Well I think the independently wealthy are successful people who have had success at running a small business or small corporation so they understand certain ideas clowns like Obama don't - Obama is a man that has never ran a business in his life - so what qualifies him to run a nation?

There are a lot of rich people out there that made an honest living, also there are a lot of poor people out there that are greedy and would sell this nation down the drain for 40k in free taxpayer money.....

The idea that "Class Warfare" against the rich in the U.S. actually exists is laughable.

It's only "Class Warfare" when the shots are fired upwards.

COme now...you honestly want to pretend there arent REGULAR attempts to vilify the top 10% of earners in this country?

Not as many as there are to vilify anyone without a job.

You would shoot yourself before you could eve fire a shot in the air - which would but dumb in the first place...

Sure there is. Its the model used in almost every other form of organization in the country. If you own stock in a company you can vote. If you pay for a membership in a co-op you have a say. If you pay for a product you are effectively voting with your dollars. Clubs have membership fees to allow people to vote. Its natural to make sure people have a stake in a system before they are allowed to decide its actions. Whats anti-american is this current dependency on govt, such that a significant number of voters do not pay for the system which they benefit from.

So the voting franchise in the U.S. is a pay-to-play club?

Really? I wonder what a quick review of the threads and news stories might reflect.

Personally...I dont vilify people that CANT work. I'm not overly fond of people that refuse to work nor those that bitch about how unfair life is and how they cant find work while immigrants come here daily and prove that they can. Im also pretty dismissive of those that run around pretending the wealthy have knocked them into the mud and stole their pennies and caused them to be complete and total ****ing failures in life. And of course...there isnt a ton of love for people that would rather sit on mommies couch and bitch about how unfair life is and those that cant spell 'business' thinking they somehow know how better to set up and operate a business. But "anyone" that doesnt have a job? Nah...

You had a presidential candidate write off 47% of the population as a bunch of deadbeats, but it's the rich who are getting a bad rap. OKAY.

We have a president who has written off the constitution, but it is the people not in power who get a bad rap.
