Ah. yes. "Power Dynamics" means Black people can never be racist. Even to Hispanics?

Yes, Grant, even to Hispanics. Because blacks have no power to institutionalize a policy against Hispanics.

What's it called when a black person doesn't like a white person solely because of the color of his or her skin? Is there a new, ecofarm-friendly word for that? Or does that never happen?

You seem to have just decided racism means something that it does not.

No, you're just ignorant of the sociology behind the word. You can only handle the 1. in definitions. It seems that anything past 1. confuses you.

Take a grad class in sociology, if you can manage. They'll explain this to you.

That discrimination is just. It is in the interest of higher learning institutions to foster diversity. Diversity increases the quality of the university, the college experience and thus the product they are selling.

Fostering "diversity" by giving one group of people a free pass on their behavior, and putting another group under a microscope while making it darned near impossible to criticize the actions of the former?

That sure doesn't look like "quality" to me. Suppressing independent thought in favor of an authoritarian system of privilege via the implementation of rigid doctrine is rather than antithesis of quality. Why march in lockstep to admire the Emperor's New Clothes when you can put your brain to better use by critiquing established orthodoxy, eh? THAT is what intellectuals do.

You know -- the educated ones?

It's called common bigotry. As it has no institutional backing, no accompanying policy threat of any sort, it's just pissing in the wind.

Racism can only exist when a group has the power to make such policy.

Wait a minute. I thought you were referring to affirmative action.

Regarding criticism, OF COURSE we should criticize blacks that are bigoted. No one is asking you to ignore bigotry. I'm just asking you to understand that bigotry without power is NOT racism. Accusing people of things they cannot possible be or do is idiotic.

Okay, by the actual definition that I posted, you're wrong. It's called being racist. lol just because you don't like doesn't mean you can change what words mean. This is funny though.

EDIT, to help you out:

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/Submit
noun
1.
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

I'm gratified to learn that Obama's white half is most certainly racist based on certain assertions here. This conflicting condition must wreak havoc within him.

Actually, yes.

Read your own definition (do try to include the numbers beyond 1., they are there for a reason). When you understand it, let me know.

I guess my next question is if you think something must adhere to all definitions of a word in order for that word to fit?

Like did I use adhere correctly there? Or did I use it incorrectly because it doesn't have anything to do with sticking one object to another?

ad·here [ad-heer] Show IPA
verb (used without object), ad·hered, ad·her·ing.
1.
to stay attached; stick fast; cleave; cling (usually followed by to ): The mud adhered to his shoes.
2.
Physics. (of two or more dissimilar substances) to be united by a molecular force acting in the area of contact.
3.
to be devoted in support or allegiance; be attached as a follower or upholder (usually followed by to ): to adhere to a party.
4.
to hold closely or firmly (usually followed by to ): to adhere to a plan.
5.
Obsolete . to be consistent.

Excellent posts, Eco. Your sound reasoning is of course going to piss a few people off, however.

They're usually called racialists. Racism in the means by which they push their racialist beliefs into existence. Racialism doesn't require power. Racism does. At least that's how I think scholars in the field view it.

In this thread, I learned that in order for a definition to be right, each separate definition needs to apply, otherwise the word doesn't fit.

eco, you've made an idiot out of yourself here buddy.

lol "black people can't be racist" wtf hahahahah

It's good to see you making an attempt. Perhaps with a tutor you could gather a clue.

But actually, by definition it doesn't. That's kinda the rub here.

Some of us are using the word as it is, some are using as they think it should be. Big difference.

Again: In this thread, I learned that in order for a definition to be right, each separate definition needs to apply, otherwise the word doesn't fit.

What a horrible showing for you.

As everyone considers you such, I'm not too worried.

Was that a post of yours? Apparently not:
post1 [pohst] Show IPA
noun
1.
a strong piece of timber, metal, or the like, set upright as a support, a point of attachment, a place for displaying notices, etc.
2.
Furniture. one of the principal uprights of a piece of furniture, as one supporting a chair back or forming one corner of a chest of drawers. Compare stump ( def 11 ) .
3.
Papermaking. a stack of 144 sheets of handmolded paper, interleaved with felt.
4.
Horse Racing. a pole on a racetrack indicating the point where a race begins or ends: the starting post.
5.
the lane of a racetrack farthest from the infield; the outside lane. Compare pole1 ( def 4 ) .

Read your definitions again. I'm not interested in dictionary definitions of complex terms.

Unfortunately, words have meaning.

Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by 'interested'

in·ter·est·ed [in-ter-uh-stid, -truh-stid, -tuh-res-tid] Show IPA
adjective
1.
having an interest in something; concerned: Interested members will meet at noon.
2.
having the attention or curiosity engaged: an interested spectator.
3.
characterized by a feeling of interest.
4.
influenced by personal or selfish motives: an interested witness.
5.
participating; having an interest or share; having money involved.

Doesn't fit one or more of those definitions, so you must've used it wrong.

Read your definitions again. I'm not interested in dictionary definitions of complex terms.

Even dictionary definitions include the institutionalization under "2.".

Some people just want so badly to call blacks racists. It's like it absolves them of their own bigotry. They will never let go of the idea that some blacks are supposedly just as bad as they are. But those of useful intellect know that a black person complaining about whites could never amount to what blacks suffer under.

Even dictionary definitions include the institutionalization under "2."

And other definitions too, unfortunately for you.

Uhhh....why do you think I have an avatar of a black guy? loooooooooooooool

This is about to get hilarious.

No, I was referring to your support for the creation of this new power structure that has replaced the former, but simply with the roles reversed. You are so much part of this power structure that you cannot see the forest for the trees.

I am far from an idiot. In fact, I am so far from one that I seldom lend myself to something so doctrinaire that it very much represents the new paradigm in terms of race relations. Yes, it IS about a power structure, and you are part of the new power structure that has replaced the old one because you lend yourself to many systems of privilege for one race over another. I do not wish a return to the old power structure as you have implied. I wish here to be no power structure at all when it comes to race relations.

Uhhh....why do you think I have an avatar of a black guy? loooooooooooooool

This is about to get hilarious.

Too bad you didn't get affirmative action, then you'd be able to converse about racism at a level above idiot.
