Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat[W:600]

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Really? So you are saying the company was lying and fear mongering saying they are still are pursuing the partnership with the UAW? Why would they lie?

It's important for them to say that to protect their political position in Germany.:peace

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Making more sh*t up Jack.

Not at all. One of the reasons VW relocated to a right to work state was to avoid labor complications. However, the company's position in Germany requires them to appear to welcome union involvement. The outcome was just right for VW: they got credit in Germany for welcoming the union in TN but they don't have to follow through and complicate the situation they sought in the first place. Well played.:peace

What the company does it's business. Like was stated above there is the PR move, and there is VW German management that works with Unions in Germany. Unions, are nothing more than a labor cartel that limit the number of jobs, artificially increase wages, hurt profits and ultimately are bad for the companies in the long term. If VW thinks they can tame the UAW, that's their failure to own.

Richard Trumka's total compensation is $302,000, and I don't begrudge him a single penny of it.

You're including health care, pension, etc.

IOW, he makes less than $300K.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

Interesting to note, the split between the workers who wanted union participation and those who didn't was about the same as the last presidential election. In the case of the union vote, it was perilously close to being passed. In the case of Obama's election it was a clear mandate. Guess it's all in the perspective.;)

You're opinion is not the same as the VW management. TG

Too bad the employees are smarter than the management. Unions are in decline, have been for years. If Unions were that great, in the market place of ideas that is America, they would spread.

Unions have only spread in one area; Government... where there is no end of money to feed the pig that Union.

If I had my druthers, like FDR I'd abolish and ban all public sector unions.

VW opened up to the UAW in TN to keep peace with IG Metall in Germany. Word now is that IGM is very angry/disappointed with UAW, and will likely seek another union partner in the US to try again. Alternatively, IGM may try itself to organize VW in the US.:peace

Yes, you're making sh*t up.

No, you are confused. Tennessee actually is a "right to work" state. Look it up.

Public unions are under attack too. The last bastion. As earlier stated, the elimination of labor unions by people who have a vested interest against labor rights. These are the same politicians and powerful influences that support race to the bottom policies. That's not smart for citizens of a country in any shape or form. Absolute power corrupts.

Re: Tennessee Volkswagen plant votes against union in UAW defeat

None of the officers or employees at the UAW headquarters in Detroit earn over $200,000 a year.

I would think anyone promoting the auto worker's union wouldn't mention DETROIT.

Explain why VW didn't want to open up in DETROIT? There certainly is plenty of factory space and unemployed people needing jobs.

Explain why basically NO AUTO COMPANY does ANYTHING in DETROIT anymore if it is so successful for a company to have the UAW.

To understand the long term effects of the UAW all a person has to do it visit DETROIT.

OK, now it's your turn to blame everyone but the union for the collapse of the auto industry in DETROIT.

UAW and Democrat controlled Detroit, Michigan to be specific.

What does any of that have to do with the price of tea in a China?

Now that you have pointed it out, it is indeed curious that two such similar votes could be described so differently. Who knew? In any case, the workers themselves decided, which is as it should be, IMO.

Having been in the auto repair industry for 26 years, I can assure you that VW is not creating a superior product anyway. All the advertising in the world won't change that. If VW as a company was so intent on union participation, why are most of the VWs sold in the US made in Mexico? Check the VIN on your "German" car, the first digit denotes country of origin.
