Rep. Keith Ellison on ObamaCare-Job Losses: More Time for Americans to Cook Dinner

Re: Rep. Keith Ellison on ObamaCare-Job Losses: More Time for Americans to Cook Dinne

Before someone, somehow blames Fox for this, Ellison actually made those comments on the February 9 airing of This Week With George Stephanopoulos.

Re: Rep. Keith Ellison on ObamaCare-Job Losses: More Time for Americans to Cook Dinne

Except the CBO didn't say that there would be the jobs lost as referenced but that people would be free to leave jobs that they are hanging on to because of insurance needs. It is about fewer people working, the jobs would still be there and the Representative makes the point that it means that people who are working just to have insurance can now be a stay at home parent. I thought the right wing wanted that?

The words did come out of his mouth. It's hard to blame that on anyone else.

It's a common deflection to blame the messenger when one doesn't like the content of the message.

Indeed it is. And as much as I don't like Fox a lot of times, I'm even more ashamed that this idiot is my Congressman.

Sure...I'll bite. Can you cite that CBO report that states that those jobs that will be lost are a good thing?

I am increasingly stunned by this type of loony response to what the CBO said...Do libs really think that everyone is so independently wealthy that they can just say 'oh, I am going to stop working now because I can buy health insurance'? What about the other bills of life that make up much more of a household budget....Mortgage/Rent, Electric, Gas, FOOD!!!!?????

You libs really think that most people are only working to get Health Insurance? I don't.

No one said that "most" people are working just for health insurance. You just made that up. And the number given by the CBO is over the next ten years, so it's not some drastically huge number to begin with.

Re: Rep. Keith Ellison on ObamaCare-Job Losses: More Time for Americans to Cook Dinne

Minnesota - the state that brought you Michele Bachmann, Keith Ellison and Al Franken. Then we wonder why people think we're a joke....

You seem to have more knowledge of this CBO report...can YOU cite the report and the provisions of the report that show that the loss of 2 million jobs is a 'good thing'?

I'm talking about the stupid meme that people will now have time to cook dinner, or paint paintings, or play golf, or what ever....It's dumb, and highly insulting to those in the country today that are working as hard as they can to put food on the table, and keep the roof over their heads....We can play semantics with the demo talking point all we want, but it's not a good idea in my opinion to express an opinion that it really is 'no big deal' that people are struggling....Or ignoring that altogether.

Its part of that new way to fire people. Hey...Tom...can you come on in here? Remember how you always wanted to spend more time sitting on your couch watching Jerry Springer? Well...congrats Big Guy! Starting next week you get to sleep in, watch Springer, take long walks, and not have to put up with that asshole Tony any more!

Your question is invalid based on the CBO report. The CBO is not saying 2mil people will be losing their jobs. In fact the report says Obamacare will increase economic activity.

Congressional Budget Office data taken out of context as ‘job’ losses tied to health-care law - The Washington Post

The Facts

In its report, the CBO said the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, would reduce the number of hours worked by the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time workers by 2025. That means that workers will decide to reduce their hours, not that employers are reducing the number of jobs.

Ultimately, we project that the number of jobs in the economy will be smaller than it would be in the absence of the ACA because some people will choose not to work at all, but CBO did not estimate the size of that change separately from the effect of people choosing to work fewer hours. We wrote in the report: “The reduction in CBO’s projections of hours worked represents a decline in the number of full-time-equivalent workers of about 2.0 million in 2017, rising to about 2.5 million in 2024 … The decline in full-time-equivalent employment stemming from the ACA will consist of some people not being employed at all and other people working fewer hours

No one is expressing this opinion either. Please stop making stuff up. No one that I am hearing is saying that it's no big deal that people are struggling.

We aren't losing 2 million jobs. So until you get the basic facts right I'm not going to waste my time spoon feeding you details that you'll just lie about anyway. Have a wonderful day.

Re: Rep. Keith Ellison on ObamaCare-Job Losses: More Time for Americans to Cook Dinne

There is quite a difference between "having the opportunity to have more liesure time" and having your hours and pay cut by 25% against your will by a company trying to avoid government penalties for having the audacity to provide full time employment. There i s more to work than a paycheck. Some of us actually enjoy and take pride in our work. We also don't trust the government to provide for us without strings attached and so we chose to provide for our own futures and those of our children. There are two types of people who see limitting employment as a good thing. There are those who have no pride in their profession who would prefer to be a non productive polyp on society, and those who wish to control them for their own gain. Both are selfish assholes. Expecting others to support you simply because you don't want to indicates a lack of self worth and exploiting others for personal gain USED to be considered morally deficient and should be still. But it has become the norm. I expect a further separation of classes to develop over the next few years where those who do work refuse to pay taxes to a government that uses our money to buy the support of what will be a reviled underclass of the selfish and lazy who the working class will increasingly turn their backs on and abandon as a lost cause. The tension in the power struggle will increase between the working class and the government until government tries to reenforce it's perceived power by force before being over run by the working class. My only hope is that the violence is limited. The real shame is that for all the advancement in civil rights the lazy and stupid are selling themselves back in to the comfort of slavery on purpose, in which case they deserve it.
