The Republican Party establishment, chastened by the realization that a string of unpredictable and unseasoned candidates cost them seats in Congress two elections in a row, is trying to head off potential political hazards wherever it can this year.

If the GOP's new strategy of "stopping the lunatics" in the primaries works out, their outlook for this year looks good, and I am 100% behind them.

After first burning their hand on the stove, the GOP attempted the strategy of "push hand on stove harder."

At least this time they seem to have got an inkling that perhaps not touching the stove is a better plan. Whether they successfully accomplish this goal remains to be seen.

I think the problem is that before the first burn incident, they'd touched the stove and found it to be cool. This was a fluke, as the stove had not been turned on. They made the mistake of believing cool stove was the norm, not the exception. It's hard to dislodge first impressions.
