Iran sending warships close to US borders[W:623]

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Iran isn't going to stop build nukes. I wish the Left would join the rest of us here in the real world.

Don't be so sure. I don't think they aspire to be a second North Korea.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

and we attacked them in Afghanistan before we went on a wild goose chase in iraq.

So, Bush didn't get us embroiled in a war in Afghanistan...right?

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

why in deaths name does there have to be a war with Iran?

Ask the Iranians...they're the ones pushing us in that direction.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Reminds me of the undeclared low scale naval war we had with Libya back in the 80's.

They lost 4 aircraft and several small patrol craft.

We lost the missiles we used on those same targets. As I recall the aircraft were shot down with sidewinders and the boats with harpoon missiles, both of which are relatively cheap compared to other missiles. The whole thing provided great fodder for comedians here in the states such as David Letterman and his top ten list.

Obviously we can keep careful tabs on these Iranian " ships " with no problem they are no threat but do not ignore them.

The bigger question is what does this say about their government. The act seems irrational. This would imply their government is as well. I suppose it is possible that they have some point they are trying to make or some plan which this act is a diversion for but none of that seems likely.

There's no way of knowing what those crazy mullah's are thinking. Sometimes they're fairly shrewd and other times completely deluded.

They would not have tried this under president Bush.

No, they just supported the Iraqi insurgents under Bush, which almost kicked our asses.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

Iran has already stated, publically, that they won't stop enriching uranium.

Here ya go UWS.....let me help you with that so there is no confusion as to who attacked who and how many times before we bipped or bopped.

Timeline of al-Qaeda attacks

On December 29, 1992, the first attack by Al-Qaeda was carried out in Aden, Yemen known as the 1992 Yemen Hotel Bombings. That evening, a bomb went off at the Gold Mohur hotel, where U.S. troops had been staying while en route to Somalia, though the troops had already left when the bomb exploded. The bombers targeted a second hotel, the Aden Movenpick, where they believed American troops might also be staying. That bomb detonated prematurely in the hotel car park, around the same time as the other bomb explosion, killing two Australian tourists. Bin Laden later claimed that he and Mohamed Khan were responsible for the 1992 Yemen attack.

The 1993 World Trade Center bombing occurred on February 26, 1993, when Ramzi Yousef parked a rented van full of explosives in the parking garage beneath the World
Trade Center. The explosion claimed six victims, and over one thousand people were wounded. Ramzi Yousef, the nephew of 9/11 planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, had trained in Afghanistan, although Khalid Sheikh Mohammed did not join Al Qaeda until 1998. Yousef worked in cooperation with the blind sheikh Omar Abdul-Rahman who was living across the Hudson, in Jersey City, at the time of the attack.

Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (prior to joining with Al Qaeda) planned Operation Bojinka, a plot to destroy airplanes in mid-Pacific flight using explosives. They tested their attacks in November 1994 on the Philippine Airlines Flight 434, which also involved Abu Sayyaf (a Southeast Asia affiliate of Al Qaeda). An apartment fire in Manila, Philippines exposed the plan before it could be carried out. Yousef was arrested, but Mohammed evaded capture until 2003.

On November 13, 1995, five Americans and two Indians were killed in the truck bombing of a US-operated Saudi National Guard training center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In August 1998, Al-Qaeda operatives carried out the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing more than 200 people and injuring more than 5,000 others.

2000s.....snip~

By Embroiled, I meant he made the war longer than it should of been. Made multiple mistakes, including diverting part of our attention to Iraq.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

no, but the way the bush administration conducted the war was without much effort in creating a focused plan of fighting the war. it is almost as if they did not care about the details.

and Bush did iran a favor by eliminating one of its rival's in the region.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

I think the AQ war was necessary, but we have to withdraw eventually, we cant just stay there forever. We should have never invaded Iraq.

We wouldn't have invaded Iraq, if it hadn't been for the attack on 9/11. Bush couldn't just go after AQ, he had to go after all Islamic terrorists and Hussein was a big financial supported of Islamic terrorism.

I think he means we attacked them in response to their attacks. Or at least that what I assume he meant.

It was also a enemy of Iran, whose rise we have helped assure by knocking down its biggest enemy.

To create a decisive victory, in a year, or two, such brutality would have been necessary that the Libbos would have gone ****ing nuts.

You want very pinpointed, surgical strikes that insure minimal collateral damage? That takes time.

Taking Iraq and Afghanistan put us in a perfect strategic position to take on Iran from two fronts. That opportunity has been thrown away, though.

if we use your logic then why did we not invade pakistan, who has been one of the biggest supporters of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in afghanistan.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

why would iran be so stupid as to attack isreal, a country that also has nukes.

Because Iran is building their own nukes?

Either way.....seems we took some time before doing anything, but playing catch-up.

One war at a time.

wait what? are you Saying iran was our enemy after 9/11? Iran offered us Aid after 9/11? Iran has no allegiance to al Qaeda , they hate al Qaeda as enemys.

Re: Iran sending warships close to US borders

did we go to war with russia because they had nukes?

Iran having nukes would put them on par with Israel, and Israel's nukes have kept its enemies at bay.

First of all, decisive victory, in my opinion, is impossible in such wars. My logic is that a war that has become the longest running in our history is to long. Granted, That's not all bush's fault, but It was during his tenure that Afghanistan turned into a stalemated war of attrition.

Of course you're going to say that. It's been a Libbo talking point since 2001.

If Iran gets nukes, Saudi Arabia said they will do the same, and so on. Before long we would have Israel, Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, and India (and possibly others) all with Nukes pointing at each other. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. All it would take is one religious fanatic to come to power, and BOOM.
