Rainbow Flag Will Fly Over Montreal City Hall During Olympics

1.) yes we wil,l i could NEVER sit at home and let my hard work go to waste if i was gay and do exactly what they want and not compete.

we dont have national equal rights here for gays yet, are all the gay politicians and gay government workers supporting bigotry? i just see no logic in that seems silly

2.) in THIS case, yes

I would support WHOLE COUNTRIES boycotting but not individuals

3.) outside of russia he is already ridiculed by everybody that is not already a bigot though.

who cares if OTHER bigots get together an are like "yeah we sure showed them" lol thier idiots :)

No one, or very few, are saying the athletes should stay home. The anger stems from not moving the olympics and possibly banning team russia. This has to do with complicity on the part of everyone else. In 1936, the US sent a delegation to try and ascertain if jews were being persecuted in germany as widely rumored. The nazis went to great lengths to put on a show, hiring actors and erasing anti semitic graffiti and such. Because this delegation was tricked, the vote passed to keep the olympics in berlin. Now we know what happened to the jews after this.

This olympics today is an enormous mistake not because there's any dispute that putin is a douche and gays are persecuted in russia, but because the world is sending the message they simply do not care. What will come next for gays there, i'm pretty sure we can predict.

No doubt it caused some waves but the majority of Germans were not in attendance and they read/listened to state media.

Those that were in attendance were too busy doing the hitler salute to notice. Ever seen the opening ceremony, where most country's athletes including america's stopped to salute hitler? What a goddamn travesty! Why don't they just salute putin during parade of nations too while they're at it.

People are being killed over there. You clearly don't get the gravity of the situation. **** sports in the face of that. What's ridiculous is you think a damn game is more important than human rights

I never said that. I'm saying, do we want to have the Olympics, or not. If so, shut up and play ball. If not, boycott them and stay home. People are being killed here too. What's that got to do with anything?

1.) agreed i haven't seen this either
2.) I do agree in the future any country with laws like this about anything should not be able to hold olympics, I wouldnt ban team russia though
3.) i do agree more should have been done and should be done and im guessing in the future this will be the last time

What a horrible analogy. No entire group is being rounded up and killed in the streets by state enabled and protected neo nazis in america to my knowledge. They could simply have the olympics in vancouver again. I would have no objection to that, so stop acting like the only option is to fullstop shut it down.

actually, I'm pretty sure the guy who lead that delegation was pretty sympathetic to fascism and Germany at the time. So it was considered a bit of a joke

Look, pick another time to criticize Russia. It's the Olympics for Christ's sake.

QUOTE=APACHERAT;1062890913]Well there is still money to be made in Sochi, it also seems there's a door knob shortage.

It looks like Aunt Clara on the "Bewitched" TV show, is still adding door knobs to her collection!: My daughter has all those DVD's, and they are fun to watch!

Greetings, APACHERAT. :2wave:[/QUOTE]

I had a friend from Philadelphia during the 70's and 80's who was in the architectural antique business. He would travel around America staying in the old upper scale hotels and would steel all of the glass cut door knobs and sell them. The original glass cut door knobs are worth a lot of money.

The blacks from the North side of Philly would come in his shop and sell the old stain glass windows that had five or more coats of paint over them. Back then many old buildings in the slums still had stained glass windows that were covered in paint. They would remove them and sell them to antique dealers for $10 to $20 per window. Enough to buy some smack.

While looking at one window he took a razor blade and started scratching the paint away from the corner and started to see the initials "LCT."

Lewis C. Tiffany. That $10 window brought in $20,000.

And what right would they have to stop the Russian police? They have little or no legal status in Russia and if the Russian police wants to arrest someone, the agenst/officers from that country will have little or no means to stop that arrest.

Well the Russians are rather corrupt, I imagine they could buy their way out.

The Canadian flag was adopted 100 years after the slaves were freed, so don't even try that bull****.

Something else you oughta know about your beloved Canada, she allowed a Confederate spy ring to operate on her soil. I'm sure you're proud of your country's support for the Southern war effort.

Have you ever heard of black loyalists, also the 1967 flag represents freedom more than the American flag ever will. Sorry about us not being too happy with the whole invading us thing and we were scared you would invade us again.

My understanding is the complete opposite. That Owens gained significant popularity in germany during the games. There was even a widely circulated german article from long that described the contest between the two and his eventual loss.

THAT will sure show em!

Well the Sochi is just a giant pit of corruption as all the building contracts were given to friends of Putin.

JFC, are you serious? You know how much of that goes on here? Perhaps Canada's nice and clean.

:wow: He had earned some good Karma, it appears!

Russia is far more corrupt than the U.S. or Canada.

Montecristo only has one setting: america bad. Anything that deviates from that can be explained by america being bad

He pointed to Russian cronyism. You denying that exists in spades here as well?

I suppose you have a graph for that too!

Yep.

Yep, from Transparency International. They have a nice interactive map as well.

The Corruption Perceptions Index has received criticisms over the years. The main one stems from the difficulty in measuring corruption, which by definition happens behind the scenes. The Corruption Perceptions Index therefore needs to rely on third-party survey which have been criticized as potentially unreliable. Data can vary widely depending on the public perception of a country, the completeness of the surveys and the methodology used. The second issue is that data cannot be compared from year to year because Transparency International uses different methodologies and samples every year. This makes it difficult to evaluate the result of new policies.[11] The Corruption Perceptions Index authors replied to these criticisms by reminding that the Corruption Perceptions Index is meant to measure perception and not "reality". They argue that "perceptions matter in their own right, since... firms and individuals take actions based on perceptions".[12]
