Amanda Knox found guilty of murder again by Italian court - CNN.com

apparently she was sentenced to 28.5 years

of course she isn't in Italy

I think the verdict is more of a condemnation of the laughably inept, corrupt and completely dysfunctional Italian justice system.

One former prosecutor doubts the USA would grant extradition given the double jeopardy argument

I followed this trial pretty closely and read numerous reviews. Based on what I learned, I would have "Rule 29'd" the case. (meaning grant the defense a directed verdict at the close of the prosecution case). The Prosecution was a joke in this matter

I saw this and was wondering, how Italy would get her back.
Short of her returning on her own, I don't see the US sending her back.

Of course she is going to be limited in foreign travel. Of course her bogus conviction is going to be appealed again.

We can only hope the US never expects Italy to honour any extraditions to the US in future. That might not bode so well, assuming Italy comes up trumps in the WOT.

That is one consideration. Italy if it was smart wouldn't demand extradition. Their justice system is a joke

What is funny here is Americans actually believe this bitch because she is pretty and has a good PR team.

I too followed the case pretty closely and can say I have serious doubts about her and the boyfriend. They acted very strangely after the murder and had inconsistent stories. Along with the evidence that was not tainted by incompetence.. like that the whole scene looked staged as a burglary.. and you can only conclude that either they did it or were heavily involved in the murder.

As for the trial being a sham trial and the Italian court system being inept and corrupt.. funny coming from the Americans.. who piss up and down on the law depending on how much money you have or where you are from. Amanda got consular help.. pity the US does not give that to people visiting the US..

Well I Amanda Knox wont be leaving the US for the rest of her life.. because step outside and an international arrest warrant will bring her back to Italy to serve her time.

Agreed. I think that if they were that bothered, they shouldn't have released her in the first place. It's not like there'd be WW3 over Foxy Knoxy.

If the Italians seize a US citizen in any place but Italy, the USA should send in a hit team as it would be an act of war. My local gun club could probably take out the Italian military in about a day

and yet if the US doesnt get what it wants it throws the toys out of the pram...

Are you sure that is the phrase you were looking for?

This is getting confusing!!! I thought she was proven innocent and that's why they released her?

i don't think your gun club could counter the use of tanks and aircraft.

Yep, if a European country were to block an extradition process like that the American government would not be happy.

I've always said **** it. Let her go. She's tidy as ****.

Let's put all the dogs in prison, instead.

What do you mean? Countries, including European countries, block extradition processes routinely when they would violate or diminish constitutional protections for their citizens or residents under their care. Double jeopardy is fiercely protected in the United States and any citizen, Amanda Knox or otherwise, would be able to call on legal protection to avoid extradition if their case fits. Her case seems to fit.

I know literally nothing about this case, she killed her roommate or something right? But either way double jeopardy is something we should never respect.

It was a show trial. This was for the benefit of their viewing public. They knew that she would not be extradited if convicted again. I guess the court of appeals would have to overturn it again given that there wasn't much new evidence added in the second trial.

The Italians won't be "seizing" anyone, anywhere, other than in Italy. However, with extradition treaties around the world and Interpol operating worldwide, if she travels out of the US anytime in the future while the conviction is still on the books, she can be apprehended and subject to extradition to Italy. The system doesn't work if countries make value judgements about the judicial systems in member countries.

Besides, ever hear of Roman Polanski?

This is true, as it relates to extradition from the US but not as it relates to extradition from another country.

Is anyone interested in justice?

This true to an extent CJ. It is my understanding she would have to limit her travels to countries not having extradition treaties with Italy.

Most people are certainly interested in justice, but trying someone three [3] times for the same crime tis abit overboard.

She would be apprehended by local police on the basis of an Interpol Red Notice or, were she silly enough to set foot in the EU, subject to a European Arrest Warrant.

There were a few frothing mouths here awhile ago about Roman Polanski.

I don't have the answer, but I think any country that is part of Interpol would also be involved since as a convicted felon, Ms. Knox may have an arrest warrant issued through Interpol for her capture. I don't know what would happen if she travelled to a country that did not have an extradition treaty with Italy but was a party to Interpol and she was arrested.

Actually, if I was an American and lived in America, I'd have no trouble spending the rest of my life in your great country - As a Canadian, I'd have no trouble living out my life in Canada as well. The US is so varied and vast that it should meet anyone in her position's need for vacation and travel options.
