The Republican National Committee announced Thursday it is banning MSNBC until the cable network issues an apology for a tweet the political party considers “offensive and unacceptable.”

“Maybe the rightwing will hate it but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,” read the tweet, which included a link to the cereal commercial. MSNBC has since deleted the post from Twitter and apologized in subsequent tweets.

Republican Party bans MSNBC over ‘offensive’ tweet tied to Cheerios ad | OnPolitics

my only question is does anyone really expect better from MSNBC?

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

A tweet that starts with the word "maybe"???

Priebus has his panties in a bunch over a "maybe" tweet?
Awwwwwww that's so cute...

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Today's Republicans are all in when it comes to disgracing any of the amendments, especially the first.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

I think MSNBC has been very consistent in depicting and following the DNC narrative that all Republicans are racists. There would be no reason I know of to expect MSNBC to do anything but continue down that path.

Don't forget their narrative is also republicans hate women too.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

I dont really think to much of political parties which think they are entitled to ban certain outlets of the press to report on them.

No matter how bad that press may be.

Yeah, and considering that most of them use to be former Aides and staffers for Demo Politicians.....I never did think that Crystal Blue Persuasion would be their cup of tea.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

So they're banning MSNBC for expressing an opinion and not apologizing for something that they apologized for that happened a year ago?

Aren't these the same people who got themselves in a wad when the guy from Duck Dynasty got in trouble for expressing an opinion? Am I missing something here?

Yep. What difference, at this point, does it make?

So something that happened a year ago that they did apologize for....banned for free speech.

Why would you wait a year for an apology which did come? I don't understand why now.

I can't imagine that some of you will be as sanguine if the DNC bans Fox.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Today's Republicans are all in when it comes to disgracing any of the amendments, especially the first.

For the love of pete, why is it that so many people on both sides of the political aisle are so glarringly ignorant about what the first amendment means.

NOTHING about this is a violation or a disgrace to the first amendment. While the Republican Party has members who run for government, the party itself is not "the government". The party choosing to not do business with another business due to the actions of that business is not in any way a first amendment issue. At all.

God, we just got done with this round of idiotic thought with the Duck Dynasty folks and people claiming their 1st amendment rights to free speech were infringed (they weren't)...now we're going to have to hear it on this too?

SMH

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

As i said in another thread about this topic...

It was stupid for MSNBC's twitter person to send out and I'm sure they'll get slapped on the wrist, but much like I've said to other things (such as when people were shockingly appalled that a place that proudly declares its christian heritage all over the place actually gave money to staunch christian organizatoins) I don't really see it as something to get worked up about because it's not surprising. Someone at MSNBC thought it was okay to make a jab at conservatives, they realized they'd get bad pub for it, and so they retracted it. Yawn.

You get credit for being consistent, you did this when conservatives where making the stupid first amendment argument. So many people are so ignorant of the constitution. Usually the ones who claim to love it the most...

this isnt something that happened a year ago.....it is a bout a super bowl ad to aired this weekend....it just happens to be the same family in the another cheerios commercial

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Is the GOP offended because the family is bi-racial? Or because they're obviously too poor to eat better food than Cheerios?

And this is the "When did you stop beating your wife?" line. Wonderful.

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

Aiken, Murdoch, ring any bells?

Re: Republican Party bans MSNBC over 'offensive' tweet'

It was strictly the MSNBC Twitter account that put out the offending tweet (and not an anchor)?

The USA Today article only displays the removal and apology, not the original.

The person or persons involved obviously overstepped their bounds. I'm sure the opinion is widely shared among the staff, but they should have at least muted it a great deal more.

Agreed. It seems as though Reince Priebus is cutting off his nose to spite his face. Banning Republicans from appearing on MSNBC is pretty stupid, in my opinion. Perhaps the Republicans should bring Michael Steel back, I think he did a much better job than Priebus does.

It seems that someone at MSNBC thought it would be a splendid idea to repeat that old line again because some version of the commercial is airing again this weekend. Now they've apologized again. I think it could be an attempt to get that elusive 6th viewer over there.

Indeed, Republicans should not act like Democrats.

They could be. They're bound to be qualified to do something. I mean, everybody is, right?

If you are asking whether or not I am aware as to who at MSNBC is given control to the station's twitter account, I am not.
