New Jersey Taxes Could Eat Up All Of Peyton Manning's Super Bowl Earnings

I agree that it's silly for Manning to be taxed in NJ. Maybe Chris Christie should do something about the tax burden there.

Of course, if this had been a poor person getting soaked by the tax system, bringing it up would be class warfare....

While this is an exaggeration of the taxes Manning has to pay, the idea that he has to pay anything to a state he doesn't live in is ludicrous and should be illegal.


I suppose that would include sales tax? Personally I hate taxes, but exempting out of towners from sales tax, if you have it would be a major headache.
 
So how is a "Jock" different? Why are their compensations not set up through the team they play for say like the Bronco's would be HQ'd in Denver, and Manning lives in Denver, so he should be taxed in CO. Not every city he plays in...That is just a progressive tax theft if you ask me.

The state of NJ is free to make the rules for people who choose to work in that state. If someone doesn't like the rules, they are not forced to work in NJ.

The DEM candidate for gov. must latch on to the conservatism of the Nunn family and be sincere before and after the election.
DEMs need to mobilize for a mid-term convention in a center of the Nation city, such as St. Louis .

If the Broncos lost to the Patriots and did not make it to the Super Bowl, Manning would still be paid his $15 million. So, if he loses the Super Bowl, he will actually make less money than not making it here at all. That's how the costing over 100% theory works.

Thanks for the explanation, but I was once a CPA, so I know a little bit about taxes. Unfortunately, most of the people that got their panties in a bunch about this do not. I do not quibble with the calculation, only with the implication that he pays more in taxes than he makes. It is completely untrue and misleading.

The whole issue is about appointment of income amongst the states he worked.... if the calculation shifts income to New Jersey, it is somewhat offset by all of the other states he plays in where, by calculation, he would pay less tax. He pays state tax on the $15M, that is unchanged... its just what state gets to claim what allocation of income (and get the tax thereon). The article is misleading, designed to excite the ignorant as if this is some type of problem or just be a quip of interest for those that do. In either case, its silly as Peyton could care less. I am certain (speculating here) that Manning and most NFL players would be happy to play in the Bowl for gratis.

We love SC....Houses are about half the price as in the NE, with more land with them, and gas is about .30 cheaper on average....Plus the people down here are pretty nice....I miss the crabs though...I have often thought about trying to open a Maryland style crab shack down here, I wonder if it would work....

If enough people move from the NE to SC, I'd say it would have a chance.

Since you've decided in advance, why would anybody lift a finger to convince you the possibility exists? If you're convinced it's a lie, maybe you could offer some proof that it is rather than bloviate regarding your presupposition.

It would thus be fair to tax Manning on the income he earned within the state, but not in relation to income he earned elsewhere. Beyond that, its just stupid. Manning is bringing far more economic activity to the area than any taxes they might collect from him. NJ should be paying HIM.

Oh, I think it has a great chance. Note the wealth, and business fleeing high tax, high regulation areas of the country for freer states like SC, AL, MS, TX...etc.

Hell, I never offered to provide any proof. You're the one complaining the nobody has presented you with anything. My point at the outset was that if it's of such great concern to you that you view it as an opportunity to smear all conservatives, then perhaps you should do a little more than simply wait for someone to present something to you. Naturally, you can't be bothered to actually disprove the OP. The tax exists. Manning's liability is in question. I'll leave it at that. Drone on.
