A combination of factors have lead to the current situation of very high propane prices and tight supply:

A late harvest and bumper crop of corn needing to be dried in the midwest

A cold winter

A reversal of a Kinder Morgan pipeline

End of the day the point is the US needs to invest more in its energy infrastructure. The spiking natural gas prices in the NE during the recent cold snaps have been another indication of the inescapable fact that the US is rich in energy but the ability to transport that energy is limited.

What source should we invest in? The "green" ones that will never meet or requirements for a very longtime if ever, or the others that Obama will find some way to close down for his greenie weenie buddies? As long as that dickhead is in the white house, I wouldn't put any money towards a longterm energy investment.

Unfortunately for us, it doesn't matter how bad his energy policy is or will get, as long as the entitlement hogs get their monthly dividend, they aren't going to give a **** about anything else.

One of the issues is storage.

Propane and NG companies do not want to have in storage any more inventory then what a few days supply would require under normal circumstances, they have made there storage facitlies to that amount. When a spike in demand comes because of a cold snap for instance, supplies become tight and prices spike. To increase storage and inventory would cost the company alot of money, making shareholders upset, so that is not going to happen.

Local or state governments could of course maintain inventory on their own, for emergency situations, but that is to much like socialism. So the US will see spikes in prices on a reoccuring basis
