Silicon Valley billionaire compares treatment of America's rich to Nazi [W:185]

Are you talking about those high school seniors whose parents have no problem plunking down money on the Mega Millions Lottery which gives them 1 in 259 million chance of winning?

Pffft I know people in the richest towns that do that

It seems to me, because most jobs are created by small business, that more should be done in entrepreneurial studies than happens right now. The attitude seems to be that entrepreneurs are just born that way, which is true in a way, but the same could be said for doctors, mechanics or hairdressers.

Many people have ideas for a business but often are discouraged by the bureaucracy, the fear of failure, their own lack of experience, the skepticism of others, and so on. But being your own boss and succeeding or failing on your own merits is a liberating feeling, whether you end up as a millionaire or not.

Why this is not given more attention in schools, rather than some of the questionable courses taught, has long been a puzzlement. Were more people familiar with the process there might also be less resentment against those who have been successful.

I went to an art school. One of my grips leaving was that they did not give me any business education. But that is not why I was there. I was there to learn about art and how to more effectively communicate an idea. What they did though was leave me with respect yourself

Good point. The apple doesn't fall far.

Artists, if they intend to support themselves or a family, must also be entrepreneurs. It does not matter what type of art it is. There many very talented people who went nowhere because they lacked the skill in developing and promoting their product. If they wait to be 'discovered' that might be a long while.

And not going to an art school does not mean that we can't all be more sensitive, as well as learning to respect ourselves and others.

No, not everyone should go to college, that's for sure, and yes, technology is the way to go, but what technology? It's likely that the jobs ten or so years from now will be based on technology that doesn't even exist yet. Technology is changing at the pace of a geometric progression. Training has to be ongoing, and it is expensive.

This is true...I am going to give you an inside look into my life, and children and their education. I have two children both in their early twenties...My daughter, whom was always better with school than the boy (typical I guess) is going to school now to attain her nursing degree, we are so proud of her, she decided that she wanted to go, and started her pre reqs at the local community based college here in Greenville, then on a curiosity, she applied to University of Maryland to see if she would be accepted, and she was, and was given a scholarship to defray some costs, so she is now a Junior at UofMd. and is on track to graduate in 2016 with a BSN in nursing...My son on the other hand also tried to go to the community college starting out with pre reqs tried, but didn't do well and as a consequence, failed a couple of classes, and is now not going. He got a job at WalMart, and worked hard, and made it so far to Supervisor of his dept. but, it isn't enough....So, recently he and I sat down and had a real heart to heart as to what he wants in his life, where he sees himself, etc. We came to the conclusion that a college degree was probably not in his future, not because he isn't smart, but because he may just not be cut out for that. So, I focused on trades with him, and we are hopefully going back to Greenville Tech, to enroll him in a Welding certification course that takes three semesters, and he comes out as a certified welder....The point is that we have always been proactive parents in their education, and don't really fall for the hype that EVERYONE has to go to college to make it....Welders are a shortage, and projected to become a critical shortage by 2020, making their income comparable with a nursing degree in the same time frames....The point being that you still don't need a college degree to succeed in America, and the bloated costs involved in college these days makes skilled trades an attractive look if one takes the time to research what is needed.

Many of our country's and the worlds rich got that way by exploiting and abusing the poor so it makes sense that people would despise them for that. Comparing people despising you for your own greed and actions to that to the holocaust is just retarded.

*Sigh* Ok, I am typing slowly....He wasn't comparing it to "the Holocaust", what he was saying is that the whisper campaigns of pre Nazi dominiation that resulted in Krystalnacht [sic] was one that draws similarities to todays meme that the "wealthy" are responsible for our problems...

Why is this point so hard to understand?

Really? From the article that you posted.

A billionaire Silicon Valley venture capitalist has been condemned for "ghastly and disgraceful" comments after he compared criticism of America's rich to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany in the 1930s

would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its 'one per cent', namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one per cent, namely the rich.
During Kristallnacht, translated as the Night of Broken Glass, Jewish shops were smashed, hundreds of synagogues were destroyed, 91 Jews were murdered and 30,000 arrested, with most of them sent to concentration camps.

Really? From the article that you posted.

While I might agree that a comparison to say the French revolution might be a better analogy, it is clear that he is talking about the corrosive nature of the progressive slime that think today that it is acceptable to take wealth from others simply because they don't have it, and by force if necessary.

No. Dammit. No.

Oh yeah...In fact you can read the thread and see it displayed right here in DP.

Referring me to to look at a DP thread is not proof. There is nothing to compare. America today and the rich here and the french revolution are nothing, NOTHING alike. Where do you come up with this ****?

My bad....Of course you're right...Never in history have the have not's attacked the wealthy....This is a first in human history.

I think the major problem of this article is the statement "he compared criticism of America's rich to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany in the 1930s ".

Even if there is some resentment to the rich it is nothing, nothing at all like what the Jews went through with Nazi Germany. It is this pitiful "oh woe is me, I feel like a Jew in Germany in the 1930's" that is pathetic.

Perhaps people should stop feeling sorry for themselves and educate themselves about the plight of others.

Ok, left unchecked, or even promoted, what ends could you see take place from the ows crowd?

Nothing close to what the Germany Nazi military was able to do.

Not a ****ing genocide, that's for sure.

I, nor did the op say anything about a genocide happening. That was your straw argument to dismiss speaking honestly to the subject.

He is comparing the treatment of the rich to the treatment of the Jews in Nazi Germany, which is an assertion so asinine that it hardly merits a response. Well, we know exactly what the Nazis did "left unchecked" and how that ended for the Jews.

How can you be confident of that? You don't have a crystal ball, do you?
How couldn't you? A crystal ball isn't necessary to dismiss such a sentiment.

Really? Because I've always found that responses like yours are usually when the claim is accurate and inconvenient for what you want to hide. In this case the irrational hatred of success.
