Questions and answers about Obama’s new NSA rules

It's NEVER Marse Barack's fault!...lol!

He could do everything you think he should, and then you'd be leading the charge against him for "not keeping us safe." You know it to, or you would if you had the ability to be honest.

So when's Boehner going to pass that bill to get rid of the NSA forever. I'm waiting. I'll support it. Where is it?

A common meme. Not true for everyone. I know I never blamed the government for 9/11, Timothy McVeigh, Newtown Shooting, Chicago's bombings. Etc etc. See, I like to blame the people that are actually at fault.

I have said this in another thread, but I will say it again.

All the reforms basically sounded to me like Obama saying "next time we won't get caught"

All I know about NSA today and other intelligence and security agencies in the past is that those who are complaining and hollering about the over reach of them are always or will be the first ones to holler about this country not doing enough to protect them when another terrorist attack occurs in the states. They will be wanting to know why the government didn’t do more.

"In some cases, Obama ordered the Justice Department and spy agencies to figure out how to implement new privacy protections, which will take time."

Why does this take time? Stop ****ing spying on people. Those responsible should be in a cell.

"Obama asked Holder and Clapper to consider whether new privacy safeguards could be added."

Cool, well we are not asking. This article makes it pretty clear that very little to nothing will actually be done about this. How long are we going to tolerate it? How many of our rights needs to be walked on by the government? All of these slime balls are playing for the same team.

I want to take issue with that broad brush of yours. I don't believe that's true. Most liberty minded people understand the risks. And in this particular case, a terrorist attack, lighting strikes, death by bee stings and a host of other rare forms of death are more likely to kill you than a terrorist attack and we're not concerned. NSA hasn't been out there knocking down repeated attempts by terrorists to attack us, we all know that. If you are discounting what Senator Church warned about the NSA 39 years ago, if you are discounting the Edward Snowden disclosures, the comments on the NSA program by constitutional lawyers, law professors, politicians on both sides of the isle, all in favour of accepting the rhetoric that we just heard from Obama on Friday, OK.

Clapper lied to congress, why ask his sorry ass ANYTHING, lock it up!

You people will say anything to defend this clown...lol

Oh, this doesn't sound creepy, or wrong at all....

Progressives went bat**** over the Patriot Act and Obama is spying on everyone and the progressives don't give one **** about it.

It's amazing.

It really goes to show how far having an (R) or (D) after your name means to some people. If it's a (D) you can do whatever the **** you want and if it's an (R) you're a fascist warmongering pig rich white racist....

Both can do the same **** - some like Obama (D) can take it to the extreme but no progressive gives a **** about that.

At least constitutional republicans, libertarians and other patriot groups called bull**** with the Patriot Act - I don't see that happening with Obama supporters - they will love that mother****er no matter what he does. He could eat a baby and progressives wouldn't bat an eye at it just as long as Jay Carney spun it the right way - a way progressives could rationalize it.

We shall see my friend, we shall see. It is my understanding the law that authorized this metadata expires in 1 Jun 2015. At that time would be an excellent opporturnity to ensure it is not renewed. I usually do not paint with such a broad brush, sorry about that. Usually I say most or some.

I never blamed the government either, I have no idea what you're reading in what I said.

If we want to get rid of the NSA forever, that sounds great. When's Boehner going to get the bill going? He's not because Republicans back this just as much as Democrats and "Marse Barack."

Who's defending him? If the wonderful, all good GOP is so against it, where's the bill? It should pass the House easily, don't you think?

He can't change the law without them, but let's face it, it's not like most of Congress is horrified. They approved for the most part, and now everybody's just trying to play "Cover your ass." Now it's up to Boehner to cover his ass.

Why? He passes all sorts of other laws with the use of his agencies. Why not this?

Of course the other side of this coin is that the Patriot Act was such a great idea in 2001 when there was an (R) in office, at least according to some who now think it's the most horrible thing ever.

As I said before, if the GOP is so wonderful and so against the NSA, it should be easy to get a bill through the House. Where is it?

I don't see why Obama can't use his power of the executive order and use one of the many agencies to do whatever he feels like doing. He has done it plenty of times already on other things. Why do we need congress when we have all these wonderful agencies? Just get one of them to do it.

So now you're in favor of Obama using executive orders? Make up your damn minds...

I was being sarcastic. Still, the executive branch has taken the power to pass law by the use of agencies decades ago.

I never thought that EVER - I absolutely hated Bush after that...

The Patriot Act gave authorities to circumvent the constitution from the local police to the federal government - just like Obama is doing now but you see no problem with that.

The difference between Bush and Obama is that Bush never could have imagined that any government body would use the Patriot Act for anything other than what it was intended to do - Bush never saw the slippery slope and highly underestimated those in government (or at least trusted them) that were liking their chops just waiting to use it to collect civilian domestic intelligence - just because the door was now open. Or those who saw the open door and figured they could use the cops as their own SS units.

I saw that from the beginning but it was Obama and the NSA, and bitches like Napolitano who get golf claps for lying and degrading and condemning guys like Edward Snowden that exposed the whole ****ing thing...

You don't want real transparency - you want talk of it - you want an authoritarian government that spies on you everyday just to make sure you're recycling and living a progressive lifestyle...

Those are individual choices people have to make NOT collective choices - then you're bewildered why I compare progressives to Stalin, Hitler, Mao etc....???

You read an awful lot that I didn't say into what I said.

I hated it then, and I hate it now. What I see is that Obama = Bush. What you see is an opportunity to make excuses for your homie. Bush didn't have the foresight to recognize that it would be abused, and for some reason you seem to see that as a GOOD thing. I don't know where you get that.

But you go on putting words in my mouth. I guess it's easier to argue with the imaginary version of me in your head than to deal with reality.

Maybe for once the left and right should stop pointing fingers long enough to fix what most on both sides agree is a huge problem. The intolerance that prevents you from even agreeing and working together for a mutually beneficial cause is exactly what they count on. Who cares who is more to blame? It seems apparent to me that the government is going to work against our best interests regardless of who the president is. Did it ever occur to you that maybe both sides are wrong, and that it will only get worse as long as we allow the government to do whatever it wants while we fight over petty bull****?

Which he has already stated he will not do! For "security" reasons we must continue to spy on the American people. Perfectly understandable, you know, because we are an evil bunch of dastardly no-goods that requires constant surveillance! Yep, it's money well spent!

Greetings, apdst. :2wave:
And how, exactly, is the NSA to tell the difference between a phone call from NYC to Paris that's a terrorist call as opposed to Auntie Em calling cousin Sally on vacation? Figure that out and you'll probably make a bundle of money. Until then, yes, they have to "spy" on us, too, or not spy on the terrorists in our country. Sadly, in 2002, Congress voted to spy on terrorists. Where was the outrage, then?

But, hey, I've been around long enough to know that the government has been spying on US citizens for decades. The FISA court has been around since 1978, 35 years and counting. Uncle Sam has been looking over my shoulder most of my adult life - nothing new to see here.

1: Who here has said to get rid of the NSA? What many here have said is that we want our government and the NSA to stop spying on innocent US Citizens. I am even on record here of not minding if they spy on other countries as that was its original purpose and I fully recognize that there are threats that reside in other countries. Be it specific cell groups of terrorists or from the countries governments themselves.

2: As for the Patriot Act I am just as much against it now as I was then because I knew that it would be abused eventually. And now we have proof of it being abused.
