Police:Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested[W:308

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

I'm not convinced that's true, at least in terms of restrictions. There seem to be very few 'restrictions' on ownership and use of cars.

If you're drunk with a gun on you, do you get your firearms card revoked?

It is illegal.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Who would expect an ex-cop to do this? Even if permits were highly restricted, who would not support an ex-cop having one. What happened is complete insanity and a terrible tragedy.

That's why I don't support gun laws. It's just too late now. We must accept their presence and conduct ourselves accordingly. Being an asshole in public is always risky - why call attention to yourself? Be nice and you'll likely not be a victim.

As Kurt would say....so it goes....

I strongly support the Second Amendment, but cops are too quick to pull the trigger, either on their tasers or pistols - sometimes they get confused to boot and shoot a guy in the back when the intent was to tase..... This is murder.

I have a feeling the defense team will try to call it self-defense because the victim was younger than the ex cop. He will claim he felt his life was in danger and was only defending himself.

Not saying that is right but will have to wait and see how this folds out.

Not necessarily. What state are we talking about?

It's not against the law to drink and carry a gun in many states. And some specify being under the influence.

I dont know all the state's laws.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Yes hence why they are illegal - even with the number of restaurants, theaters, schools, etc that use them:
https://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/cell-phone-and-gps-jamming

There are ways such things could be handled. Just like fire alarms. And pulling the "medical emergency" alarm or whatever could turn off the jammer. I am not going to buy that we need to always be able to use our cell phones in order to be safe.

If you are stopped by the cops in Texas and they ask you if you are armed with a gun or knife and you say "No", then they give you one. That's an executive order by Gov. Perry

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Of he'd left his phone in his pocket, he wouldn't have been killed.

You're a big fan of personal liberty, I see.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Yes. Especially when you ignore and dismiss the other 14,999 incidents of gun violence per year (or is it 30k? Hard to keep up with the carnage stats).

Carry on folks. Nothing to see here.

Please define 'gun violence.'

Because to me, that means 'crime.'

Legally carrying gun owners commit the tiniest fraction of any type of violent crimes.

Gun violence is by far committed by criminals and gangbangers.

And thus, no laws will be effective to prevent their actions.

Laws restricting guns and preventing carry only HARM law-abiding people.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

You don't have to be convinced, but it is 100% accurate.

No, I dont believe it is. If so, please feel free to source it.

I go by the evidence....nearly everyone owns and drives cars everyday and felons, the mentally ill, minors...all these people have to do is slap down the money...no background checks for instance.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

I just can't stop thinking that if the guy had left the phone in his pocket, it wouldnt have happened. There's no disputing that fact.

Do you blame women when they are raped too?

Because that is the road you are continuing down.

Disparity of force?

Just IMO, if he could have retreated, he had zero justification to use lethal force.

This is where SYG laws fail, IMO. (not that that has been applied here yet).

I was talking about homicides. Gun violence numbers are much much higher.

And what number of that 14,000 homicides were committed by cc permit holders or people legally allowed to carry firearms?

State Driving Law go to each states specific laws and regulations. There are thousands more laws and regulations surrounding the ownership and use of cars as opposed to guns.

Sorry, you are using 'thousands more.' You'll have to provide some context.

The restrictions...observably....are pretty minimal. Laws and regulations do not equal 'restriction.'

According to most anti gun control people, anyone can get a gun. That's why everyone needs a gun.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Why don't you look it up?

You are the one lumping all gun homicides together....please prove that legally permitted people...which we are discussing here in this thread...are out there committing homicides.

Nearly anyone can legally own a gun. *Anyone* can steal a gun.

The restrictions on carrying vary greatly from state to state.

By definition, laws and regulations are restrictions.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Virtually all of them.

I'd like to see proof of that.

But at the same time...if the laws pertaining to vehicle ownership and use are so vast and comprehensive....then they are failing miserably.

What makes you think more of the same would be effective for gun ownership and use?

I've given you proof. You apparently are not interested in reading it.
