Police:Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested[W:308

A retired police officer is accused of shooting a man dead during an argument over texting in a Florida movie theater Monday afternoon, police said. The victim's wife also was wounded when the shooter pulled a handgun and fired once before the afternoon showing of the war film "Lone Survivor" at the theater complex in Wesley Chapel, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said.
The suspect, Curtis Reeves, is a retired Tampa police officer and will be charged with second-degree homicide, Nocco said.

This is the other side of the coin. Some times having a "good guy" with a gun ends up being far more dangerous than what would probably have been a simple assault or verbal spat. If we had several times more people running around with firearms for "safety" I wonder how many incidents like this would increase. Humans can lose their temper and react irrationally in the moment. This reminds me of another story where a guy leaving his driveway in his truck was accosted by a door to door salesman and shot him point blank out of pure momentary rage.

The movie hadn't even started yet. While I agree that it's annoying during the movie, at least during the previews, people should be able to do what they want without having to worry about being shot. :roll:

Being serious now, this is how I feel. Yes, the cop was unstable. No, the other person shouldn't have been shot. That being said, when you go out of your way to not give a crap about the right of your fellow paying theater goers to enjoy their movie watching experience, you risk inviting dark elements into your life. It's like angrily honking your horn, tailgating and flipping everyone off. No, you don't deserve to die for this, but one day you're going to road rage the wrong guy, and you will have no one but yourself to blame.

Fun fact: Northern Italy has a very low murder rate. Northern Italians are also giant assholes. Southern Italy has a high murder rate, and Southern Italians are very very polite. I do not consider these to be disconnected facts
