Police:Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested[W:308

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

I'll give you part of the answer.

I am not interested in the massive amount of violent crimes in the UK because of the gun ban there. You should be though.

This isn't the citation I was looking for.

I know, but you may want to look at it before citing two wrong numbers again.

Not to mention the rampant use of cell phones in UK theatres.

I did not misstate any facts. It is you that has changed gun homicides to gun murders. If a five year old kid takes his dad's gun and kills himself or his brother
with it, it certainly isn't any worse than a murder.

The discussion is the gun murders, not the majority of gun deaths, which are not murders. And do not cite Wikipedia as a response to the FBI, it will be ignored by everyone.

Perhaps you did not know what the word homicide means?

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Well, suicides ARE deaths too.

But the 15k figure is homicides.
If you actually gave a damn about more than a 'cause' you would be advocating for mandatory minimum sentencing laws for anyone using a firearm in the commission of a crime and criminal possession of firearms rather than targeting the Constitutional rights of law abiding citizens. But then...we already know what you actually care about.

Oh...and BTW...in places like Japan where they outlawed guns (and criminals still illegally imported guns) their completed suicide rates are dramatically higher than the suicide rates in the US. They find ways, be it jumping from buildings, poisoning, overdose, etc.

I think that we can all agree that guns make it easier to commit suicide. However, the important thing is homicides.

No, murders are important.

I think if you look at the rate of successful completion of suicides in both Australia and Japan, you would not think the first comment to be so easily guaranteed. As to the 'homicides...cool...we are both on board. And as criminals get illegal weapons as easily as they get illegal drugs we also agree targeting law abiding citizens is an idiotic ploy used by people only interested in the 'cause' of banning guns. So with that we are in agreement that the true answer is to target criminals and do so by draconian sentencing of violent criminals and increased use of the death penalties for murderers using any manner of weapon. See...I KNEW we were just around the corner form "common ground". Reason always wins over 'cause' and ideology.

Who says I don't advocate that?

You just love debating imaginary strawman, don't you?

Then why are there only 42 homicides in the UK? Why are the numbers so low in all of the countries that control it? If it were so easy to get illegal guns, why aren't their gun homicide rates 1/20 of the US?

draconian sentencing of violent criminals and increased use of the death penalties for murderers using any manner of weapon.

No thanks - doesn't work well and really expensive. I'm a conservative; I don't like wasting money.

The problem is thinking gun bans can only lower guns crime, and cannot make other crimes go up.

What makes you think they went up significantly enough to counteract the gun ban? You can't make unfounded claims. Let's see it.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

"They" never say Jack **** about it. Ever.

So...to you...the epidemic of violence...meh...**** it...its just minorities killin minorities....nothing to see here. But when a white kid or adult male does it....whoa...stop the presses! Forget about the vast majority of dead bodies...there is this one shooting...lets run with that...
The "epidemic of violence" as you call it has been around and discussed for many decades. It generally reappears every election as politicians promise to reduce crime. If you want to discuss that subject you're more than welcome to start a new thread. I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies.

Why are you trying to change the subject?

Not significant, sorry. Most people survive assaults and other non-gun related crimes.

Re: Police: Texting in movie theater sparks fatal shooting, retired officer arrested

Depends on weapon and clothing choice. I've seen .45 calibers that I could strap to my forearm in a long sleeve shirt and you would never know.
I'm sure that's not common. Why would you generally try to hide that fact that you're carrying?

Tons of reasons. The first main one is for a courtesy to people who are squeamish around weapons, the second main one is tactical in case a person is not legally concealing and looking for a window of opportunity(such as an ambush during an armed robbery, I don't want to draw their eye and be the first target, I would rather they don't know I'm armed and focus on the money so that I can find my own window of opportunity to draw and defend).
