My mother was in a vegetative state for three years before dying.

With a few exceptions, those that support the existence and security of Israel will wish him and his family peace. National security is no easy task and sometimes it means having to fight. On the other hand, Israel's detractors will want to dance and spit on his grave. No reason to be pissed about either. It's all a matter of perspective.

Great general when Israel's existence was in doubt.

Terrible general/leader (imo) once Israel's existence was secure (i.e. 1982 onwards).

He never defended Israel.

He merely wasted US taxpayer $$ (which should never have been doled out to the Israeli regime in the first place) by using it to unnecessarily aggravate Palestinians to the point that Israel's security was further threatened by retaliation by Palestinian rebels, which is the case even today.

There is word for such a being. . .

That is precisely the reason why we do not criticize or prosecute other war criminals.

He's a murderer who got away with being a criminal because he was born on the 'right' side of the border. Don't believe in hell so I guess the only appropriate thing to be said here is good riddance.

People will be quick to come in and get their kicks in but I think the peace process suffered a body blow the day Sharon was incapacitated. Since then Israel has been plagued by weak leadership and men and women too diminutive and untrusted to carry out the big decisions that need to be made.

A very poor analogy. The guilt that Sharon bears is akin to what would have happened if while in Iraq the US Military had failed to prevent Iraqi troops under its auspices from committing a massacre despite ample evidence in the field that one might have been forthcoming. Consequently we then have a commission which finds Robert Gates personally culpable for failing to heed warning signs coming from the field and neglecting his responsibility to issue the appropriate directives. Ariel Sharon was acting Defense Minister was was working from Jerusalem, not a field commander in Lebanon. He was found culpable of neglecting his responsibilities towards civilians and for failing to order action be taken to curb the Phalangists.

If anything the hatred expressed towards Sharon by those who hate Israel to their bones on this site (and out of it, like the comments from Hamas and members of the PLO) shows only his true greatness and enormous contribution to the state of Israel.
