Our Bill of Rights AND Constitution draw that line. Too bad our constitution is no longer controlled by the congress but rather regulated by the courts.

Also, the Ninth Amendment deals with indentured servitudes - not gays.

The best part about the Ninth is that the Ninth only includes amendments 1-8....

An Amendment cannot pertain directly to a future Amendment.

There are procedures to deal with issues such as this as (usually) addendums or repeals.

It was simply not ratified by the number of states needed, mostly because the southern states had seceded.

Not that said amendments couldn't hold similarities to a present amendment just as long as there was legal precedence to amend the amendment or add and addendum.

It doesn't matter - there have been numerous amendments proposed and not passed by a full legislature.

A new amendment can of course repeal an old amendment, but you mean it cannot contradict an old amendment unless it is repealing the amendment.

BWA HA HA! So your solution to "I don't like what the government is doing" is to destroy it? Yet you cannot look back and see that so many people's rights causes--civil rights, women's rights, laborers' rights, etc.--were achieved peacefully, despite the horrible things done to them?

An amendment needs to be repealed or "amended" or have addendum added....

The Bill of Rights/Constitution cannot contradict itself.... Even in their own addendum.... Those objects are just to articulate an amendment.

Yes, our federal government cannot circumvent the constitution - which it has been doing and been making a habit of doing in an attempt of progress (meaning YOU TOLERATING THEIR TYRANNY DOING SUCH)...

If the federal government/Obama/Holder et al is so passionate about gay marriage why don't they amend the Constitution instead of suing states?

Because they cant.

It's a state issue........

It's no different than states legalizing pot...

They're not even going to **** with that **** beyond VIOLATING THE TENTH AMENDMENT AND DIRECT DEMOCRACY AND SUING STATES!

Your white, straight, cisgender, male, Christian, etc. privileges blind you from seeing the oppression that nonwhites, LGBTs, women, nonchristians, noncitizens, etc. get to endure in varying degrees in the United States of America in the year 2014. And when this privilege is pointed out to you, you can choose to view it as an attack or a learning opportunity. You have chosen the reaction I chose for many years. May you find the healing that soon comes from acknowledging your privilege.

If it really matters to you I'm a dark brown Sicilian and most people in my Mexican neighborhood confuse me with being Mexican or just a day worker when I go about my day.

Yeah us Tea Party libertarian folks all don't look like "Duck Dynasty."
