Holder: Feds recognize Utah’s same-sex marriages[W:50]

I said Ninth. Not Nineteenth. Learn to read.

I find it funny how you want to use a document designed to protect human rights, in order to suppress human rights.

You want anarchy....

Our Bill of Rights AND Constitution draw that line. Too bad our constitution is no longer controlled by the congress but rather regulated by the courts.

Also, the Ninth Amendment deals with indentured servitudes - not gays.

The best part about the Ninth is that the Ninth only includes amendments 1-8....

An Amendment cannot pertain directly to a future Amendment.

There are procedures to deal with issues such as this as (usually) addendums or repeals.

It doesn't exist...

Has been on the back burner for since ever.

It was simply not ratified by the number of states needed, mostly because the southern states had seceded.

Corwin Amendment.

Also, I didn't mean a proposed amendment couldn't inspire a future amendment - it means it cannot contradict a previous amendment.

Not that said amendments couldn't hold similarities to a present amendment just as long as there was legal precedence to amend the amendment or add and addendum.

It doesn't matter - there have been numerous amendments proposed and not passed by a full legislature.

The Dixicrats did a lot of that.

A new amendment can of course repeal an old amendment, but you mean it cannot contradict an old amendment unless it is repealing the amendment.

Of course, but had it been ratified it would be an example of just what you mentioned.

BWA HA HA! So your solution to "I don't like what the government is doing" is to destroy it? Yet you cannot look back and see that so many people's rights causes--civil rights, women's rights, laborers' rights, etc.--were achieved peacefully, despite the horrible things done to them?

If you are a white, straight, cisgender, male, Christian, citizen of the USA, then odds are almost certain that you are not being singled out for oppression. Get over it.

That is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard. Please show me where in the Constitution it clearly says that the higher the Amendment number, the greater weight it holds. Have you really thought through the implications of this? "States' rights" > the right to reasonable search and seizure? The Fourteenth Amendment > the Second? By your insane reasoning, these are examples of what would logically follow.

No it cannot....

An amendment needs to be repealed or "amended" or have addendum added....

The Bill of Rights/Constitution cannot contradict itself.... Even in their own addendum.... Those objects are just to articulate an amendment.

Yes, our federal government cannot circumvent the constitution - which it has been doing and been making a habit of doing in an attempt of progress (meaning YOU TOLERATING THEIR TYRANNY DOING SUCH)...

That is a pathetically weak retort. Are you a white, straight, cisgender, male, Christian, citizen of the USA, by chance?

Let me ask some of you this question:

If the federal government/Obama/Holder et al is so passionate about gay marriage why don't they amend the Constitution instead of suing states?

Because they cant.

It's a state issue........

It's no different than states legalizing pot...

They're not even going to **** with that **** beyond VIOLATING THE TENTH AMENDMENT AND DIRECT DEMOCRACY AND SUING STATES!

Why would it matter?

You racist?

Bias?

Sexist?

You're just reaffirming my entire idea on the progressive philosophy.

Your white, straight, cisgender, male, Christian, etc. privileges blind you from seeing the oppression that nonwhites, LGBTs, women, nonchristians, noncitizens, etc. get to endure in varying degrees in the United States of America in the year 2014. And when this privilege is pointed out to you, you can choose to view it as an attack or a learning opportunity. You have chosen the reaction I chose for many years. May you find the healing that soon comes from acknowledging your privilege.

Your name speaks volumes...

Want your grants eh?

I bet more cats are out here with no degrees making more progress in physics than you are while you collect your taxpayer funded grants.

If it really matters to you I'm a dark brown Sicilian and most people in my Mexican neighborhood confuse me with being Mexican or just a day worker when I go about my day.

Yeah us Tea Party libertarian folks all don't look like "Duck Dynasty."

And here come the argumenta ad homimem. Like clockwork.

Cool story bro.

I'm not even interested in your nonsense attempt at a fight - because you're bored...

Love the Latin (kinda)...

I have no desire to watch you throw random **** at the wall and see was could stick or fall.

If you have not desire to debate and rather talk **** and make blanket racist and bias accusations I'm going to put you on ignore...

You want to have a serious debate - well I'm open for discussion.

I gotta do a few things but will be back shortly to see where you stand.

I accept your surrender.

You have anything of substance to say other than "you're a white, Christian, racist, homo" or whatever your implications were?

Imagine what you could have accomplished without excuses.

This implies that you enjoy all the aforementioned privileges listed as well.
