Ohio killer to get 2-drug injection untried in US

I can't even begin to imagine the blood splattering! I hope she was unconscious!

Greetings, nota bene. :2wave:

Well she was struck in the head with the axe first, so it's possible she was already dead.

And some are concerned about using untried drugs? Seems a lot more humane than beheading! :wow:

Greetings, Henrin. :2wave:

You have to remember also that after the first swing of the axe hit the back of her head the second almost completely removed her head except for some muscle on the far side. The last swing was by all accounts just clean up to a blown job by a clumsy executor.

Beside her of course, the other victim is her dog that grieved after her death.

How do dogs know that the owner isn't just on vacation or something, because they do! When a family member was killed in a head-on collision some years ago, her dog ran from room to room to room, barking frantically, and that was before we were even notified by the police! And he grieved for a long time after that, poor thing. Sad...

Dogs are privy to understanding that is beyond human capability.:peace

:agree: It has to be a special kind of trust, love and loyalty they have for us, which we just don't yet understand. It was very sad to see her dog's distress, though, and we wondered at the time how he could have possibly known, since the accident happened miles away... but he did. Another of life's mysteries....

The company that was selling pentobartiol to the U.S. for past lethal injections has stopped on moral objections to it being used for human execution, so that's the reason why the new drug combo is being tested.

There is zero evidence that suffering is less when someone is killed in this way. It just looks that way from the outside because their body is paralyzed so they can't express it. Much like how we assume that people who die in their sleep always die peacefully. For all we know it is a horrible way to go, especially now that an untested drug combo is being used.

And this is of interest because . . . ?

I do not agree with the death penalty. Why not just feed the guy to the dogs?

Because despite the salivating blood hounds who love nothing more than to wreak vengeance upon people they deem the scum of the earth, we have a duty to avoid cruel and unusual punishment. Lethal injection was promoted on the premise that it is less cruel than earlier methods, but the entire basis of that assumption was that the criminal never expressed suffering during the procedure. Well duh, of course they don't if they're under anesthesia, but that doesn't rule out suffering one bit.

There are thousands of cases worldwide each year of people who wake up during surgery, fully aware of all bodily sensations, but cannot move or communicate their suffering.

Honestly?

Dont really care. I have no objections to 'some discomfort or fear' while we're killing someone and dont feel it meets the bar of 'cruel and unusual'. Considering what they're being executed for, please.

That said, I dont support the DP but it has nothing to do with type of execution method.

Yes, I do see the difference but in the end, both are dead, NK is slightly more barbaric.

slightly? lol, people on this board crack me up at times.

From 1803-1897 Ohio used hanging as a method of capital punishment
From 1897-1963 the electric chair was put into use. It's nickname, Old Sparky.
June 29, 1972 U.S. Supreme Court overturns the death penalty due to application concerns. The 65 prisoners on Death Row in Ohio had their sentences reduced to life. Then in 1974 Ohio re-established the Death Penalty mandating its use for certain crimes. But then by 1978 the law was ruled unconstitutional and all on death row had their sentences reduced to life.
1981- Death penalty was re-instated using the electric chair
1993- Lethal injection is added as an option and by 1994 voters decide to shorten the appeal time for convicted murderers and by 1995 voters amend the Ohio Constitution, limiting the Governor’s authority in providing clemency.
In 2001, Governor Taft signed a bill eliminating the use of the electric chair and now executions are solely done by lethal injection.

I suppose there are many states that have a similar history. Whatever discomfort the convict endures in any execution is but a matter of minutes. Their victims often endured hours, days and sometimes months of pain and suffering before their lives were taken from them.

No government should kill its citizens if they are off the streets and under control. Killing them is killing them, telling yourself it is painless is great, but they are still dead. Barbaric. You are pretty funny yourself. :lamo

I made pretty clear that I generally disagree with the death penalty. But to equate an execution designed to be painless to having someone ripped apart by enraged animals is ****ing moronic and shows a complete inability to consider context, nuance, nor circumstance.

There isn't even much someone can even say to you at that point

See you are funny. :lamo the death penalty is barbaric and makes us no better then the Chinese, NK or ME countries we criticize so much. But yea, it is painless.

In the matter of criminal executions my indifference knows no bounds.:peace

you're making a false equivalency. There is a difference in both manner and effect in executing someone in a quick and relatively painless manner, and having them ripped apart by animals.

Well, the end result is the same. A person is dead.

No ****, but the method n how the goal is reached and the effect it has on the individual reaching it, are completely different. And it really does your position no favors ignoring such obvious things
