(CNN) -- An explosion at a train station Volgograd, Russia, killed at least 18 people on Sunday, Russian media reported.
The RIA Novosti news agency said dozens were injured, citing police.
It is the second bombing in the southern Russian city in two months and comes less than six weeks ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, which is located less than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Volgograd.

BBC News - 'Suicide bomber' hits Russia's Volgograd train station
(BBC) -- An explosion at a train station in the southern Russian city of Volgograd has killed at least 13 people, reports say.
A female suicide bomber was responsible for the blast, which injured 50 people, Russia's anti-terrorism committee said.
A suspected female suicide bomber killed at least six people when she attacked a bus in the city in October.
Moscow is concerned militant groups could be ramping up violence in the run up to the the 2014 winter Olympic Games in the city of Sochi in six weeks.

Russian authorities for quite some time now been expressing concerns that such events would take place at a higher and deadlier rates, as we get closer and closer to the winter Olympic games.

Fallen.

One of the differences that I expect we'll see between the way we'd respond, and the way the Russians will respond, is that Russians as I understand it, believe that surgical strikes are for operating rooms, while terrorist bombings should be responded to with massive, disproportionate reprisals which destroy not only those responsible, but an instructive number of those who might be disinclined to execute instantly anyone known to be thinking of committing such acts in the future.

I'm very sorry to learn of this latest terrorist attack. It isn't too surprising that the terrorists are trying to inflict as much damage as possible ahead of the Winter Olympics. Hopefully, Russia will be successful in curtailing the threat and eventually breaking the terrorist organizations.

You're right...gotta hand it to the Russians for having the balls to lay waste to the bad guys and their supporters.

The image of the ruthless Russian counter-terrorism strategy has created an unrealistic myth of the competent Russian counter-terrorism strategy. Hamfisted and clumsy operations that have yielded little except the deaths of hundreds of Russian citizens and the deaths of possible sources of intelligence; incidents like the Moscow Theater or Beslan have camouflaged incompetence with brutality. Appointment of Governors, imprecise and poorly planned raids, military degradation, autocratic puppetry, mal and corrupt administration and the like have fortified the insurgencies in the North Caucuses and led to the deaths of hundreds of Russian security officials with no sign of the conflicts abating. Violence tapered only after massive military and internal security reinforcements were pushed into the region and over the past few years violence has flared up once again.

According to Interfax.ru and its sources in the Russian security forces.

This man, Pavel Pechenkin (Ansar ar-Rusi) originally born and raised in Volozsk, Mari El republic, is one of the terrorists.

(in Russian - sorry I ain't gonna translate his delusional blabbering)

His story became relatively famous in 2012, as he joined the terrorists in Dagestan, his parents went after him and tried to locate him there - hoping to find him and convince him to return.

Unfortunately, they failed, so they decided to record a Youtube video where they begged him to return home.
He responded with a video of his own, where he defended "his choice" and "his new path" - that's the one above.

Fallen.
