Don't know if there's a thread on this or not. But here it is.

A&E has ducked away from a controversy surrounding the stars of its hugely popular reality series Duck Dynasty.

The network issued a statement late Friday backing off from its previously announced suspension of Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the clan behind the successful Louisiana-based Duck Commander duck-calling business. The suspension was triggered by Robertson's interview with GQ, published last week, in which he made anti-gay statements, which he said reflected his religious beliefs.

I think it's a win for the LGBT community. This suspension was HUGE for social conservatives, and it garnered plenty of outraged backlash in conservative media outlets. Every conservative politician and conservative blog was talking about it.

This is why I don't think it's a victory for them. A&E stuck to its guns until well after the outraged subsided. This ordeal gave clear indication to the slower adapting half of the country that anti-gay rhetoric is simply no longer appropriate or appreciated. That A&E/Disney and the national media will no longer give you a free-pass to slander other people with your Bible; and if you do, there will be consequences.

Money talks, alleged pro-gay A&E morals walk.

Come on, it was a publicity stunt, we knew he would never be fired, he'll come back to even more viewers than before who want to see what obnoxious crap comes out of his mouth next. This was a set up from day one.

What are you talking about? The outrage was still going on even over christmas. A&E caved into that outrage. the LGBT community lost face in this fight. they showed that unless you agree with them that you should be censored which is well not allowed.

A&E didn't want to give away the number 1 rated reality show.

Them and cracker barrel took a huge financial hit over the whole ordeal.

A&E couldn't have paid for all the free advertisement on every conceivable media outlet in America. Way more value than a dozen Superbowl ads. Political correctness backfires.

A&E stuck to their guns until they folded like a shirt...

Merry Christmas

Regardless of spin to the contrary, this is a huge blow to the anti-Christian and other groups that wanted Phil Robertson and his popular show canceled. Canceled, punished and hated actually.

The entire country and the world now realizes that the power those Liberal pop culture, anti-traditionalist groups have claimed and threatened in order to bully Americans is just not in control of mainstream America at all.

This time, Americans looked at their full on demonstration of power and said "No." You are not America.

It's like any other bully. Once you get beat, you're not feared anymore.

It's a huge blow to the endlessly shrieking, Godless loons.

I wonder if the next time GLAAD opens their collective mouth will the action taken be faster or much slower because of this case.

And on the end of the day the world is no better or worse off. I am sure Christians and Gays who are being oppressed and brutalized in various parts of the world will be happy to hear that this all important matter of an old rich dude with a big mouth getting back on a TV show has been settled. Clearly this has deserved so much attention.

Why is it considered "bullying" to bash fat people, yet "freedom of speech" to bash gays? Is gluttony not also a sin?

Why don't conservatives try as hard to stop obesity as they do to stop gay marriage?

Why are gays openly mocked by the far right Christian community, yet I hear nothing but silence from the far right as far as obesity goes. If banning gay marriage isn't denying individual freedom, then neither is banning a big gulp of coke from a gas station..

Nothing but Christian Hypocrisy.

What good guys? It's "reality TV", there's no winner in that.

Truman ended up a winner at the end of the script. He got the hot girl, ditched Ed Harris, and was able to avoid millions of fickle viewers for the rest of his life. ;)

I don't know if you really believe this, or if you're just spinning it to make yourself feel better.

  • For all their talk, A&E didn't do squat until pressured by special-interest groups, hence they only moved to save face.
  • This suspension was over the Christmas holiday, when no filming was being done anyway.
  • The backlash against the backlash was huge. (I don't think they saw that coming)
  • Did this suspension come with a pay reduction? Probably not.
  • They're going to do PSAs regarding tolerance, etc. IOW, no real action, just feel-good "look at us we're so caring" crap.
In reality, nothing of substance was done, nothing was gained by those who were outraged. It's back to business as usual... money talks.

This is the Chick-fil-A affair allover again.

Remember what happened when the pervert-rights movement called for boycotts against Chik-fil-A after Dan Cathy said some things they didn't like?

Offending a very large portion of one's mainstream consumer base in order to avoid offending a tiny minority of immoral freaks is never going to be good for business.

What I think Mr. Robertson and his family ought to do now is make a big public announcement that they are seeking to do business with another network as soon as their current contract with A&E runs out; and inviting offers now from other networks.

I've seen a few episodes of their show, and I really wasn't impressed with it, but apparently, it's very popular, currently a big money maker for A&E. To lose the Robertson family to a competing network would be the final way to make an example of what happens to networks that stupidly betray their own people, as well as their audience, in order to cater to the pervert lobby.

TBH being gay I wasn't really offended, in order for me to care he and his fan base would have to possess at least the same or higher intellectual capability than I do, anybody who reads, and has read the Bible (not that many people actually read it) would realize you have to be more or less an idiot to accept its outdated moral laws without question.

Heres the thing. A large section of Christianity believes that homosexuality is a sin. You may HATE that...it may piss you off. It may cause you to turn red with rage. **** you. Thats your problem. Stating a belief that homosexuality is a sin is NOT an attack on homosexuals. Grow the **** up. Stating theft is a sin is NOT an attack on thieves. Stating murder is a sin is NOT an attack on murderers. It is a stated position on a behavior. A lifestyle. Nothing more...nothing less. If you dont agree with it then it should matter less to you than MY opinion. Because you know what? **** us...how you believe or act isnt OUR business either. If we arent trying to force you to change, then the stated position that homosexuality is a sin is just that...a stated position. Dont like it? YOUR problem.

And heres another thing...if you are the type to get yourself all tied up in knots because someone expresses an opinion that you dont buy into then 1-you probably arent very happy with yourself. 2-If you get yourself worked up into a nice healthy outrage when a white conservative evangelical states that position but keep your mouth shut when the vast majority of black pastors and ministers in this country say the same thing...you have no character, no values, and no cause. If you get all bent out of shape when a white male beats up or kills a homosexual but wrap your face in duct tape when blacks or hispanics beat up or kill a homosexual, you have no character, no values, and no cause. If you eat it and ask for seconds when a democrat says that his opposition to gay marriage is based on immorality, then you have no character, no values and no cause. If you are the type that constantly freaks out when a Christian addresses homosexuality as a sin, and then are the first in line to defend Islam and entire countries and leaders that not only declare homosexuality to be an abomination but also put them to death for their lifestyle, then you have no character, no values, and no cause. If you scream your indignation about 'tolerance' and then lose your mind when someone dares to not agree with you, then you have no character, no values, and certainly...no cause.

Neat it is every elses fault a phallocentric misogynist religion is that. Ya should look at your own back yard:

19 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”

if your point is 'sin is sin' I am in full agreement. That's why it is so completely moronic that people will hear a sermon discussing multiple sins, if ore the rest of the sermon, and then lose their mind because I the midst of all the other sins discussed 'oh noes...he said homosexuality is a sin!!!'

no that is not is not my point and in the closet of your mind you know that

Trust me, I share your disgust with reality television. However, as far as programming goes, what's put out there, DD are the good guys.
