Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet. [W:38:54]

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

I'm talking about free speech.

People are exercising their free speech by showing their outrage. Why do you hate the Constitution and how long have you hated it?

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

Yea, its called the First Amendment. Look it up. Also look up growing up and getting a thick skin.

Yet another person who has no idea what "freedom of speech" actually means.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

That's not what the Constitution says.
The Constitution does not make any guarantees of job security. You're well within your legal rights to inform your boss that his Wife masquerades as a five dollar a night hooker, just as he is well within his rights to fire you for saying such a thing. The same concept applies here unfortunately.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

While I don't think that she is a "racist" largely because that is a condition of the heart, and I don't know her, or her heart, I do believe that what she said is at the least inappropriate, and her company is within their right to let her go.

BTW, The constitution largely is a document stating what the government can not do to you the people. It has little to do with private companies and their reasons for firing an employee. She has the right to say it, she also must accept that it was a dumb thing to post on social media.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

Read the first amendment then you tell me what law she broke. If so, every political commentator in America would have been fired 10 times over.

She didnt have to break a law to be fired. The 1A protects you from govt consequences, not private.

Free speech means the protection of speech that will likely come under fire from a majority of people.

OH, they can fire her. Its just a BS firing.

If it was your business and it reflected badly on it and damaged your business, you would probably think differently.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

In her line of work she should have known better.

Yeah...you have free speech, accorded by the 1A. It doesnt protect you from consequences...you are expected to be accountable for your speech, that's not the govt's problem either. The Const doesnt enumerate personal responsibility but it sets us up for it, implies it (by not creating protections 'from' exercising our rights).

The 1st Amendment doesn't make physical violence legal. Our culture expects us to be responsible, but the only thing wrong with that, is that the people who insist on more responsibility, only want to hold certain people responsible, while letting others off scot free.

It protects you from mob violence.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

Funny as hell. Nothing racist about it. Too bad she didn't say "sure don't want to end up in a pot of boiling water".

And this folks is why there are no funny conservative comedians...

Where did I ever say it justified violence? We have free will and must pay the consequences for it sometimes.....like if we break the law. Violence in most cases is against the law.

1/2 Hour News Hour was on Fox News for two full seasons before liberals sabotaged it by not watching and then it was cancelled.

I lol'd in RL

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

Sure that their firing practices align with the 1A, as long as the speech in question is not a deliberate attempt to hurt the company.

And there you have it people. Another conservative demanding that the government control private enterprise.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

If you are saying that applying common sense before you speak isn't in the Constitution, or the actual right to Freedom of Speech isn't in the Constitution, you are correct. The Right comes from the First Amendment to the Constitution. Common sense can't be bought, endowed, guaranteed or taught.

And not everybody has it. ;)

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

People have traded in their sense of humor for fake outrage.

I thought it was hilarious personally. Of course, I have a distorted sense of humor lol.

Re: Woman fired for Aids Africa tweet.

This is all I read. If you work as Com. Dir. for any company that big, you should really watch what the **** it is you say. Specially when one of your websites caters to a multiracial demographic. Some of the other sites that specifically cater to various races owned by her company: OkCupid, SpeedDate, Meetic, SinglePeopleMeet. This company did the right thing just as A&E did by rehiring Phil Robertson. It erred on the side of caution and played to its audience. Firing this woman, however, puts strong emphasis on what I've been telling people for years. Popularity doesn't matter jack **** in media. Sponsors and demographics do. A&E's Duck Dynasty's demographic are rednecks and people of low income. Firing Phil Robertson will simply make sure they stop watching. This woman on the other hand is an executive. Firing her won't damage the company one bit. It will benefit them because the person they're firing is not a bread winner.

In short, getting fired in the media world depends on highly specific conditions. If you have the right audience, the right sponsors and the right income, nobody will care. If viewers of A&E boycotted by not watching any of A&E's other shows, they'd have a shot at cancelling Duck Dynasty. However, as that is unlikely to happen, the show will remain.
How is it that the bolded statement isn't racist when if I said "Real Housewives of Atlanta's demographics are n*****s and people of low income" I would be infracted on this website for that and everyone on here would attack me for it. Can you explain that? And I don't want to hear the excuse that they call themselves rednecks. Black people call themselves n***a all the time but it still isn't cool if I say it.

"Redneck" isn't a racial slur.
