U.S. judge orders landmark California cross taken down

They need to stop hating on Christianity.

When atheists are critical of religion it is usually Christianity. They are largely silent on Islam and Hinduism, among scores of others.. That tends to make them one-dimensional.

Atheists are all about removing all signs of religion in the United States, especially the Christian religion. They want everything gone, completely. They would take the cross off your grandmother's gravestone, dig her up and take the cross off her neck if they could get away with it.

And yet, after all those decades of trying to stifle religion, through murder, theft and destruction, it seems to have made a comeback. Perhaps there is more to this religion deal than we think.

That is one case in history and I don't see that happening anywhere anymore?

How many examples are there right now of the religious forcing it on their people at the state level? The middle east is rife with these terrible abuses. History is absolutely littered with the religious oppressing others.

I hear they steal the children of Christians and sacrifice them to science.

Pfffft, I dislike all religions based on how bad their followers abuse it. Islam seems to be far worse that Christianity from a general perspective.

Of course there are plenty of good people of every religion but... I'm an equal opportunity hater as well.

I agree absolutely. It is not just the Middle East with Islam it is also and Asia and Africa. Christianity once had the same power but it has maintained its strength since then through means other than the law and brute force.

Yes, everyone should be treated with the same amount of cordial disrespect.

You have never read a single book by any of the New Atheists then. Whether its Hitchens, Sam Harris, or Dawkins, nothing draws their ire like Islam, followed by fundamentalist Christianity and Orthodox Judaism. Sam Harris is not a fan of moderate Muslims and Christians, but only because he believes they enable the radical elements in their faith.

As to the topic of the thread, if its a memorial I see no problem having the cross up. The ten commandments in a court room is another thing entirely though as its a clear endorsement of specific religious beliefs.

Oh yes, I have read Hitchens and even Bill Maher is speaking out as well. But the MSM remains rather silent and in fact fearful of what might happen if there is criticism of Islam. And of course Jews have been getting it for centuries, though often as a people and not necessarily because of their religion..

But it tends towards Christianity than anywhere else, it seems to me, and becomes more evident at this time of year. Little is mention of God during Ramadan or Hanukkah.

They need to stop hating on Christianity.

I do not hate religion (including Christianity), I hate the excesses of religion, the proselytizing by religious groups or individuals and constant public displays of religious acts and ceremonies.

I even do not have an issue with a prayer meeting at school, as long as it is not during school hours and that it is purely on voluntary basis. It also has to allowed/open to all other groups. Vocal prayer messages during school hours is not OK IMHO.

People should be able to be religious if they want to be and other people should be able to not be religious if they want to be. Atheists should try not to unduly bother religious people and religious people should not unduly bother non-religious people.

No, usually atheists are never bothered by Hinduism and with only a limited amount of Islamic interference, it is usually down to Christians in Western democracies who are the biggest problem for atheists.

Muslims do not have much influence so there is a lot less reason to criticize them other than denouncing their views (which atheists actually do).

No, and if it is a private school with no government funding they can go ahead and pray.

Well, thank you for your permission.

I would even not have an issue with given a moment before class to say a silent and personal prayer. I am objecting to it being done over the intercom/pa system at schools.

1. Where is this done? Do you have an example? Or is it the boogeyman you want to keep in the closet?

2. Do you also object to the opening prayer in congress? How about the ten commandments being depicted in the SCOTUS?

So you would hate Christmas and Easter then. Must be difficult times. Perhaps a way of eliminating this 'hate' is to bring the love of your fellow man into your heart. You can do this by attending a Church and paying some attention to the teachings of Jesus.

Bet you wouldn't try stopping a Muslim from laying his rug down.

On their person property? No. Huge symbols and obnoxious display on public land? You have 2 options, all (and The Rock means ALL) or nothing.

Who is 'they'?

Atheists, you can't trust them. They are trying to destroy Christianity while promoting Islam through devious, backdoor means.

Yes, they tendto be more aware of Christianity so they tend to focus on them. Their disinterest in religion makes it difficult for them to learn the different beliefs in varying religions so they pick on the closest at hand.

The reason, or alleged reason, people are being stripped down at airports and having their phone calls traced, and being spied on by cameras on street corners, is because of Muslims. They are also attacking villages, and even airports, throughout the world. If you think Islam is not effecting your life you should read something other than the MSM.

Oh, okay. Thanks for that.

People need to know. I mean they want to ban all religion everywhere even on private property and dig up your grandmother. No doubt for some immoral necrophilic debauchery! And then defile the grave of your poor departed grandmother after defiling her corpse. This bastards must be stopped! They hate America, Freedom, an Duck Dynasty!

No, I enjoy a nice totally non-religious holiday season. I celebrate having 2 days off work with loved ones with good foods and sometimes a few gifts.

Celebrating holidays is perfectly possible without all the religious stuff.

You mean the church that has been a source of injustice, death and hatred throughout the centuries?

Sorry, but I do not need the teachings of someone I do not believe ever existed (as a son of god that is). Also, one live a perfectly decent, loving and fellow man loving life without religion.

They tend to focus on christianity because that is the dominant religion in the US and Europe. It is also the religion that wants to impose it's moral views on a whole host of issue on the population. And it has nothing to do with disinterest but which religion interferes the most with their life and liberty, and in a western modern country that is christianity.

No, it is because of terrorism. In the US that terrorist threat happens to be islam. In the UK not too long ago it was the IRA (as was it is in mainland Europe), in Spain it was the ETA, etc. etc. etc.

Also, the stripping down, tracing of cell phones, being watched with camera's has nothing to do with islamic faith itself but with extremists who happen to be muslim. Sure islam is an influence around the world but it is not trying to run my life or trying to impose their will on my society.

But those holidays are based on "all the religious stuff". What would atheists celebrate without them?

As compared to whom? Atheists?

There is actually no evidence that atheists have ever opened any charities, built any hospitals, or created an international system to help the poor of every nation. Atheists as a group have accomplished nothing. They are nihilists.
All the developed world was designed on Christian teachings and whether or not you believe in the actual person, or God, is not relevant. Anyone raised in the western world has been effected by Christianity, and the reverberations are still being felt around the world today.
