FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager who killed four people while driving drunk has been sentenced to probation.

Prosecutors were pushing for 16-year-old Ethan Couch to spend 20 years in prison. However, State District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced Couch to a decade of probation.

This just goes to show that, if you are white and rich, you get probation, even if you drive drunk and kill 4 people, while maiming 11 others for life. But if you are black and poor you go to prison, like this guy who was poor and black and had an IQ of 61..... Wait!! I take that back. He not only went to prison, he was executed.

The worst part is that neither the father, nor his son, showed absolutely any remorse at all, which is why this guy should have gone to prison for a very, very long time. Instead, he will get to live his life richly, after serving a short term term at an upscale multi-millionaires only rehab center, paid for with the half a million bucks his father is giving them.

Yes, folks. Money DOES buy justice these days. But, if there is justice in this world, his father will no longer be part of the 1%, since it was one of his company trucks his son was driving when he snuffed out all those lives. The 15 or more lawsuits that will undoubtedly be filed against him will take care of that. Sad to say, though, it won't bring back any of those people his son killed, or repair any of the damage to the 11 who survived but are now crippled for life. In the end, we can only hope that this family learns what it is like to be poor, after becoming poor themselves.

I sincerely hope and pray that happens.

"What goes around, comes around."

I just saw this on the noon news and I'll have to say it sickened me. Has this judge been bought off or something. He said the kid did it because he was spoiled and had never suffered any consequences for his actions so to fix that the judge once again lets him slide? WTF?

Teenagers, who actually commit murder get probation all the time. This isn't a huge shock.

The Judge, District Judge Jean Boyd, is an elected Republican Judge in Tarrant County. Judges are elected in Texas in 4 year partisan elections. Tarrant County is Republican. Dallas County is Democrat. Collin County (North of Dallas) such as Plano is Republican.

A shock? No, just another example of the rich playing by different rules than the rest of us.

how is this any different than barbara bush, who at the same age t-boned her ex-boyfriend in a fit of range
yup, her dad was rich, too
yup, also in tejas

This is a travesty of justice. He should have been tried as an adult and recieved an adult sentence. My heart goes out to the families of the 4 deceased victims and the 11 people who were injured.

The so called 'diagnosis' and subsequent (lack of) sentencing are pure BS. Mommy, Daddy, Sonny and the paid hack should all get the needle. The judge too.

Yeah, I heard about this. It's sickening.

The irony is that this happened in Texas. I thought they executed assholes like this in Texas.

However, we all know that money buys your way out of murder. Ask OJ.

I couldn't ask OJ. He's in prison, and I couldn't see him so I could ask him. I did, however, ask George Zimmerman. He agreed.

What the heck is with folks here?
As it was an accident caused by reckless behavior while in a drunken state, his sentence as a juvenile, was more than just.
A twenty year sentence and he would have been freed in two years after reaching adulthood. But apparently that is what folks want. A sentence that isn't just.

And ten years of probation is nothing to sneeze at either.
10 years under the oppressive arm of the Government.
He is basically being given a 10 year sentence rather than the two year sentence that a twenty would have brought.

Spare us the bull****.
It doesn't show any such thing, and the two cases are not even close to being the same.
Especially as one was an accident, and the other the direct and deliberate murder.

Bs. You can show no such thing.

Which makes your "which is why this guy should have" to, absurd.

:doh
No, money does not buy justice these days.
Money enables a person to afford an appropriate defense.
A defense, as with most products, the better it is, the more it costs.

Secondly, if the kid can get better treatment in such a facility why should it not be allowed? It isn't on the State's dime.

I've been disillusioned by the "justice" system more times than I can count. I do believe that the USA has the best, most fair justice system in the world; which means that there isn't a damned lick of real justice anywhere on the planet.

This kid and his entire family are a waste of oxygen, and the four people that brat killed, along with the 11 he maimed for life, are even more evidence of that sad fact.

Are you in agreement with the ruling?

We had several arguments, but the one incontestable proposition was that Wilson was mentally retarded. Five IQ tests and testimony from numerous witnesses proved it.
That doesn't prove jack. Anyone can choose the wrong answers on an IQ test. That argument assumes that the perp was not being disingenuous in an attempt to save his ass. It's getting the correct answers that matters on an IQ test. Getting them wrong doesn't prove jack ****.

Wilson abducted and shot 21-year-old Jerry Robert Williams following a physical confrontation between the two in the 1500 block of Verone in Beaumont. At the time of the murder, Wilson had two previous convictions for robbery, one of them aggravated.

In the Wilson case the kidnapper/robber made a conscious choice to murder someone.

And in the Ethan Couch case an inexperienced 16 year old driver caused an unfortunate auto accident. Unlike the other case no motive was presented. Just another auto accident.

For anti-white racists to compare the two cases is ridiculous. That is a really ****ing desperate attempt at race baiting.

that's moronic. there was no evidence of any criminal intent by Ms. Bush

This wasn't a murder case. It was a 16 year old inexperienced driver who survived a lethal auto accident.

Being a father of 5 daughters past their teen years, I know one of life's most anxious moments is the moment you give a teenager the car keys and let them drive on their own on the streets. Not on a racetrack or trail or parking lot, but on the public roads.

An auto accident like that happening was my worst nightmare when they were teens. So I can empathize.

I have three kids and three step kids. I feel ya, bro!

The oldest of the heard is my step daughter. She hated me for a loooong time after I grounded her ass when she got a ticket for doing 85 in a 70...in MY goddamn truck!

Trust me! I haven't slept good for years. Two more will have their DL's by spring. I know it's karma, but...damn!

Are you in agreement with the ruling?

Of course not. At the same time, does she rate 20 years of hard time?

What did was make a stupid mistake. There are people who intentionally commit far more heinous crimes that get away with lesser punishment.

The outrage here--fox paw outrage--is that she's a white girl who is perceived to be rich. The OP made it clear that had she been at least poor and any race, preferably not white, the hand-wringers would be ok with the sentence.

"But...but...but...Bush fill in the blank"

Pitiful!

Do people at 16 not know that you shouldn't drink and drive? I don't understand what played a role in this kid not getting any kind of real punishment. Is it the fact he didn't know he shouldn't drink and drive? Can adults use that as an excuse? Okay, it was an accident. Can adults who say it was an accident and kill 4 people get away by claiming ignorance of the law?

I wouldn't give him 20 years, but I'd definitely give him something. This sends a very bad message out. Claim ignorance of the law, and ignorance of consequences and you can get away with killing 4 people. Mistakes aren't above punishment. Ask anybody who's gone to jail for manslaughter.

The kid's blood alcohol was 2.4. It wasn't an "accident"; it was vehicular homicide.

He got drunk, slaughtered a bunch of pedestrians, maimed a bunch of other folks, and basically walked away, scot-free. But he was rich and white, so it's all good.
