Teen Sentenced To Probation For Deadly DWI Crash

Pretty much. Which is what people do not understand understand about the BAC. I can drink the same amount of alcohol as someone else. However, they may reach a 0.08% BAC faster if they are 50 pounds under me. However, once him and I both reach the same BAC levels, we'll exhibit some of the same issues.

That is what I thought but your post #88 says this:

A 0.8 on a person that weighs 240 pounds is not the same as a 0.8 on a person who weighs 150 pounds.

which is contradictory.

It is the same in its effects but not how fast they get there or how faster they burn it off.

Well, if you ever get busted for a DUI then feel free to use the "junk science" defense.
Been there, done that. And I won.

But the leeches still took my money. :(

They're vampiresque bloodsucking ********ers IMNSHO.

I agree, I apologize, it should say "is the same".

Just because some blog uses the word "fact" doesn't make it so in the minds of non-idiots.

The real fact of the matter is that individual people have vastly different tolerances to alcohol. That is concrete indisputable medical science.

So your links that don't acknowledge that fact are nothing but ridiculous anti-science BS and bigotry.

A vanilla malt will put you over the legal limit.

Disclaimer: You must be over 21 to read this post.

I love math. It has always been my strength. In high school I didn't hang out with the cool kids so I had no access to alcohol. I lived in a dry county so finding alcohol from my family or other source was out of the question too. But wait! Vanilla extract is sold over the counter with 35% alcohol. This was awesome. Perhaps I could get drunk off of this let me calculate it.

2 ounce bottle of vanilla extract x .35 = 0.7 ounces of alcohol

Now I have to make sure I am not drinking too much alcohol. My health teacher was very vivid when describing the dangers of alcohol poisoning. I didn't want to drink too much so I calculated the amount of alcohol in a 6 pack of beer. Average beer has less than 5% but some do have 5.5%. I'll work with the larger number to maximize my ability to become intoxicated.

72 ounces of beer x .055 = 3.96 ounces of alcohol

I need to drink 11 ounces of vanilla extra to obtain the effect of 6 beers. No thank you. I continued to do a similar calculation with Lemon extract which was 90% alcohol. I finally learned to buy two bottles of lemon extract and mix it with Sunny Delight orange juice. Boy was that nasty.

Anyways, the moral of the story is a vanilla malt milk shake from Sonic doesn't contain a 2 ounce bottle of vanilla extract but even if it did it would not place you over the legal limit.

SAME JUDGE SENTENCES BLACK BOY TO 10 YEARS FOR A KNOCKOUT GAME GONE WRONG.

Oops. Comparable stupidity and vastly different outcomes.

Texas teen sentenced to 10 years for deadly punch | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
:doh Holy ****! :doh
The "oops" is all yours.

The two cases are not comparable at all.
In the above case we have a direct and deliberate act to harm someone.
In the case at hand, we have an accident.
And you somehow think they are comparable. :doh :lamo

Btw, to put your "oops" into better perspective...
The victims mother of the case you present, said the following about the sentencing aspect of that case.

Still, Gregory’s mother, Anita Lauterbach, said she remembers the judge being more into rehabilitation rather than race.

"She wanted to send him to one of these special places in Arizona. But no one would take him,” Lauterbach said. “We were horrified. We just couldn't believe it. The district attorney and I were just sitting on pins and needles. But when nobody would take him, [it was] a sigh of relief."

And from the above article because some folks seem not to understand.

"What a lot of people don't understand is that juvenile courts are actually created to reform, as opposed to adults criminal systems are designed to punish people," Monroe added.

and because his lawyer said the kid was so rich and privileged that he "didn't know any better", the kid gets off scot free,
:doh
That is not what happened.
That is not the reason he was given 10 years probation.
Nor is 10 years probation, "scot free".

So again, if he had been given 20 years he would have have been released after two because he is a juvenile.

This way he is doing ten years under the oppressive thumb of the government.
That is not nothing to sneeze at.

[...]

Couch was sentenced by a juvenile court judge Tuesday. If he violates the terms of his probation, he could face up to 10 years of incarceration, according to a statement from the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office.

[...]

"(The judge) fashioned a sentence that is going to keep Ethan under the thumb of the justice system for the next 10 years," he said. "And if Ethan doesn't do what he's supposed to do, if he has one misstep at all, then this judge, or an adult judge when he's transferred, can then incarcerate him."

[...]

Texas teen Ethan Couch gets 10 years' probation for deadly DWI crash - CNN.com

As far as 10 years probation being "bull****"....well, the kid gets to sleep in his own bed, **** i his own toilet, eat at his own leisure, enjoy the companionship of friends and family as he sees fit.....yeah, it is bull**** because it's hardly any punishment at all after leaving a trail of death and disability behind him.
He is going to be under the oppressive thumb of the Government, nor will he be able to see his parents for two years.

His activities will be limited and scrutinized and he will only be able to do those things you mentioned, within the framework of his probation.
Much the way that a prisoner would do those things in the framework of their imprisonment.

Probation is nothing to sneeze at.

Oh, but I do. I love a good Chardonnay, cream sherry, and my favorite, Southern Comfort, straight up. I just don't drive after drinking. Apparently you do. I hope the law of averages doesn't catch up with you.

This. I'm a 23 year old who loves beer and doesn't mind having a margarita or two either, but you are damn sure that if I'm driving, I'm not drinking. There is absolutely no reason to risk hurting yourself, or worse, someone else, because you drive intoxicated.

It is the height of irresponsibility and the height of indifference to your fellow man.

The most successful grassroots campaign of my lifetime remains Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. So many people your age, Your Star, have grown up hearing and internalizing sensible admonitions about drinking and driving, and you've just demonstrated it. Kudos.

Most people also wouldn't think of getting behind the wheel and not buckling up either. These are great changes in societal mores/public sensibilities, I think. (And laws too, of course--wearing a seatbelt wasn't always the law, and requiring kids in the backseat to be buckled in came even later.)

Maybe some of the little kids are listening to "Don't text and drive."

This just goes to show that, if you are white and rich, you get probation, even if you drive drunk and kill 4 people, while maiming 11 others for life. But if you are black and poor you go to prison, like this guy who was poor and black and had an IQ of 61..... Wait!! I take that back. He not only went to prison, he was executed.

The worst part is that neither the father, nor his son, showed absolutely any remorse at all, which is why this guy should have gone to prison for a very, very long time. Instead, he will get to live his life richly, after serving a short term term at an upscale multi-millionaires only rehab center, paid for with the half a million bucks his father is giving them.

Yes, folks. Money DOES buy justice these days. But, if there is justice in this world, his father will no longer be part of the 1%, since it was one of his company trucks his son was driving when he snuffed out all those lives. The 15 or more lawsuits that will undoubtedly be filed against him will take care of that. Sad to say, though, it won't bring back any of those people his son killed, or repair any of the damage to the 11 who survived but are now crippled for life. In the end, we can only hope that this family learns what it is like to be poor, after becoming poor themselves.

This was absolutely the worst fumble of justice I've ever seen.

That judge needs to be reprimanded/ impeached/ something. Letting the defense's argument that the boy suffered from "affluenza" (cough cough he's too rich to have to abide by measly peasant laws and consequences) is one of the most unprofessional things I've ever witnessed.

There has been no fumble.
Juvenal courts are there for reform, not punishment.

Funny, that seems to be what I am reading. Perhaps this needs to be in the "bias in the media" section?

"Affluenza," the affliction cited by a psychologist to argue that a North Texas teenager from a wealthy family should not be sent to prison for killing four pedestrians while driving drunk, is not a recognized diagnosis and should not be used to justify bad behavior, experts said Thursday.

:doh

And?

The defense can say what ever they want.
It doesn't mean the Judge considered it.

The Judge not using it in her decision says that is not what happened here.
Or do you not understand these things?

The previous case brought up where she considered the same type of treatment sentence, also shows it wasn't a consideration.

Those are all anti-science blogs.

What I posted is common knowledge based on actual medical science. Different individuals have vastly differ tolerances for alcohol.

That's why DUI laws make no ****ing sense, they are not based on actual medical science. They are based on greed and a prohibitionist agenda from anti-liberty zealots.

I didn't know so much stupid could be compacted into so few words.

Insulting me is not going to change the fact that different individuals have very different tolerances for alcohol.

EDIT: Oh and BTW, in regards to YOU calling me stupid... see here.

The differing tolerances is being able to drink more alcohol without your BAC going up, not that one can handle BAC differently.

Well, it sounds like what you need to do is to get to work and make a lot of money.
