Pope Francis is Time's Person of the Year......

Everything the Pope says though is news. Especially in the United States, where I think people got so used to the idea that the Church was pro-Republican. So whenever he says something that challenges that orthodoxy, everybody's all a twitter over here because "Hey, the Pope's not a Reagan Republican!" Isn't that what the outrage expressed in this thread comes down to?

I have read a bunch of stupid things on this site, but the above is right there. What makes you think that Catholics and the church are right wing. Try this one on, which is the bluest state in the nation, Mass. The state filled with Catholics. Is the Church pro- immigration, yes. Is the Church anti- death penalty, yes. Going all the way back to the Vietnam war, was the church anti-war yes. The only thing I can think of where it may agree with conservatives is abortion.

Can we get folks to debate on this site that don't get all their info from Comics?

Not only is he not a Reagan Republican, the Republicans are realizing that this Pope is acting Christian. And they strongly object to his beliefs. This is causing a great degree of cognitive dissonance among Republican Christians.

I thought #2 was Snowden.

He was with polling their readers.....and the Editors picks. But for some reason the readers went with the Egyptian General putting the Smackdown on the MB as #1.

What?! You mean liberals, Democrats, libs, libbys, and left wingers aren't all just atheists? That's just something a RW ranter ranted about, really?

Hey, you learn something new every day.

No it's not. They are firm in their belief that only they are correct, so if the Pope disputes them, it's obviously that the Pope is a Commie.

Not only that, we're not all gay either.

The Pope's a economic idiot, and of-course he would embrace the left wing clap trap that demagogue Capitalism.

I think the majority of people understand that a Religious figures opinions on economic issues should be taken with a grain of salt.

So the teachings of Jesus in the Bible are irrelevant?

If it truly is about fairness and equity, a balance that benefits everybody, kind of like what trickle down economics conjures up but didn't deliver, then there's a place for government regulations (truly enforced, not just existing on paper) to protect and serve everyone. But if capitalism is about a narrow band of mega wealthy at the top and little room for a burgeoning middle class but lots of room for poor, then that's what the Pope speaks of. And people don't need degrees in economics to see the difference.

He's embracing the teachings of Jesus Christ. If this conflicts with your beliefs on economic issues, well, you'll have to live with it.

No, no he is not "embracing the teaching of Jesus Christ". Now your'e just being dishonest.

When did Jesus say that the Government should be given powers to re-distribute wealth based on their own arbitrary and subjective definitions ?

Right. I'm the dishonest one here. :lamo

Oh wait. You probably do believe that second line is an accurate portrayal of what's been said.

That cartoon is a little dated, that portion of the pie for the American Middle Class has shrunk quite a bit under a Liberal President.

Which policy of President Obama's do you perceive as being responsible for that?

Right. I'm the dishonest one here. :lamo

Absolutely you are the dishonest one here as you try to use the teachings of Christianity to contradict Christians on a issue that involves economics and Governments definition of equity.

So again, when did Jesus instruct the Roman Government to round up all of the wealth via force and then distribute it a they saw fit ???

Was it in Mathew ? John ? Where exactly did he say that a Governmental power should be given the power of arbitration to decide who got to keep their money and who deserved to be the recipient of money that never belonged to them ?

Got anything honest to add, or are you just going to continue to be disingenuous ?

Your dishonesty is in your portrayal of the discussion. You'll get a more rational discussion when you can accurately represent what the Pope is saying.

No, I'm actually the one being honest here, or are you going to pretend that the Pope's statements were NOT a direct reference to a economic model used all over the world ?

The Pope's not a economist and should probably keep his mouth shut or then take the risk of sounding ignorant and foolish.

Your use of the generic is arguably one of the most dishonest tactics I've seen used in this thread.

He referenced an economic model. That doesn't mean your representation of his opinion is accurate.

Yes, and it is continuing to shrink, as is the middle class.

And that is why true Christians give to charities and use their money for the good. It does not however mean the state should confiscate your wealth and even things out as so many libs try to say.

Anyone who uses the term "libs" is usually wrong about pretty much everything.

Simple really, two words. "Unfettered capitalism". Where exactly does that exist? It does not exist so WTF was he talking about?

Pope Francis didn't use the phrase "unfettered capitalism."

Yes, and it is
continuing to shrink, as is the middle class.

We Conservatives DID try to warn you people.

But Noooooo....you elected a Jr Senator with a paper thin resume, who after the Sub-Prime Collpase chose to focus on passing a healthcare law that targeted the middle class.

Honestly, ObamaCare doesn't effect the poor or the rich.....so who pays for it ??

The middle class NOW has to contend with mandated higher cost on premiums for sub-standard policies.

Yes, we DID try to warn you and now that slice is going to get even smaller.
