Pope Francis is Time's Person of the Year......

Actually he said unfettered capitalism which does not even exist these days so he was either blowing smoke out of his ass or implying America has unfettered capitalism. I pick door number 2.

Come on dude. You know quite well that corporate America greasing the palms of politicians who are responsible for oversight (fettering or regulating) compromise the process and that's what Francis is talking about and guess what, he's right.

Unfettered capitalism has a definition and you obviously don't know what it is.

Sawyer, unfettered/ uncontrolled/unregulated! What are you trying to do here. The US has a facade of controlled, fettered, regulated capitalism but is compromised by corruption amongst those that are responsible for such. Both Francis and I understand the definition of unfettered, perhaps you need to look it up.

You and the pope seem to make up your own communist leaning version of the word. To you it means any capitalism the state does not fully control and manipulate.

As a Catholic, you're supposed to have condemnation of capitalism's moral dilemma and its other cultural contradictions.

I wouldn't say so considering the whole give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's thing and the fact that the Lazarus he raised was the richest man in that territory, a huge capitalist.

I think the church's message has been hijacked.

Alright.....I admit I secretly put his name in for this Illustrious Award. Course now I expect a 1 Dollar Donation from every Catholic out there. Please make that payable to the MMC Fund. A Non For Profit Sort of Corporation.

IMO he implied we have unfettered capitalism in this country. Who else could he be referring to if not us, the bastion of capitalism.

He was speaking critically of the entire industrialized world but feel free to keep thinking this is solely about you.

There are other nations in the world besides the US, but none of them really have "unfettered" capitalism.

No! Fully regulate. It's about fairness, equity and protecting citizen consumers. Again, the Pope is right. I understand the aggravation though.

Too funny. Where does one mail the check? Better pm that, lol.

Nice dodge but the fact is this pope trashed capitalism and Time loved it.

He didn't trash capitalism. You either have selective hearing or waste too much time listening to Rush.

If you think he trashed capitalism, try reading the Gospel (then you might understand what he was trying to say).

All you have to do is bash America and or capitalism and you are a shoe in.

I must have missed the part where he bashed America. Unless of course you are saying capitalism and America are simply one and the same thing?

Really?:

To be fair... those two's economic policies pretty much bashed America.

I don't think the Pope deserved this honor, yet. In my mind, up to this point he has given indications that he may deserve the honor in the coming year(s). This reminds me of Obama's Nobel award.

I much prefer to see individuals honored for their deeds rather than their words.

I just love it when atheist libs use Jesus to try and make some point.

I'm not trying to liberalize Jesus, in fact I generally don't approve of trying to make Jesus into something regarding politics and economics since he talked mostly about salvation and ways for one to behave on a personal level. BUT when it comes to a man who represents the largest Church that worships and at least claims to follow the doctrine of Jesus Christ, a man who told the rich to sell everything they owned and give to the poor, or a man who said not to collect treasures on Earth, I can't really blame him for telling the wealthy to share their wealth.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

That's hilarious! A magazine that only exists today because it serves as a soapbox for corporate interests, and you think they are going to bash capitalism!

If Time's Person of the Year was truly objective, they would have picked Edward Snowden! As much as I admire the new pope for reminding right wing Catholics what it really says in their bibles, Ed Snowden was the man who had the most impact on world events this year, since the rumours and concerns about government surveillance were not getting any traction until Snowden made his little trip to Hong Kong and ended up in Moscow.

And that is why true Christians give to charities and use their money for the good. It does not however mean the state should confiscate your wealth and even things out as so many libs try to say.

TIME is left wing like all the so called main stream media in America and leftist are know for biting the hand that feeds them.
