Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

I'm not "defending socialism." I'm saying that, if you think more than half of the American electorate is socialist, then you have no idea what socialism means. And the idea that the "ultimate goal of unions is socialism" is laughably stupid.
More to the point is that Socialists have no idea what Socialism means. There are as many vague theories as their are leftists. Whenever it inevitable fails the response will be, "Ahh, but wasn't real socialism". There is a problem in pointing to a country where it has worked.

WOW, One is left to believe that protecting workers rights along with the air we breathe and water we drink were selfish ideals!

No, they weren't but as often happens when the government gets too much power, unintended consequences result.

In 1972 Richard Nixon said this. "These many proposals I have made, if enacted, would provide the authority to protect and preserve our natural environment for decades'.

In 2013 the US Obama Government did this.Armed EPA raid in Alaska sheds light on 70 fed agencies with armed divisions | Fox News

I don't recall ever reading about a union demanding that the government take over and run their member's employer, do you?

Socialism: It has a meaning. That meaning is not "any government program I disagree with". That meaning is the government controlling the means of production. Maxine Waters thinks that's a terrific idea. Hardly anyone in the US agrees with her.

Not enough Americans were upset when the US Government purchased GM, or invested in companies like Solyndra, despite their President never having administration or leadership experience at any time in his life. Very few Americans even felt this behavior was even oddly suspicious. They went on faith instead that an avowed leftist must know what he is doing and that would be good enough for them. Of course the same naivety, not to say willful ignorance, still applies through Obamacare.

Obama shaking hands with the communist stooge doesn't mean jack. It's just another ploy to take the public attention away from Obamacare. I recommend ignoring it and concentrating on what's going to eat your lunch in about a year or two.

whoa, stop right there. You are trying to make sense. This will never do.

don't you have any preconceived misconceptions you can throw out? That is what you need for this debate

Right on cue:

What this actually means, is that you are for profit as long as they do everything you and your statist buddies tell them to do.

Bailing out GM and investing in Solyndra (among others, of course) does smack of creeping socialism. Obamacare depends on private insurance and private medical care, and is not socialism regardless of how much you disagree with the idea.

Statism:

support of or belief in the sovereignty of a state, usually a republic.

Yes, I believe in the sovereignty of the United States of America. The question is why you don't.

I'm glad it was Raul, Fidel was the bad one.

No, it doesn't mean much, nor does the ruling that a long standing cross has to be removed from a California hillside. But all these are small indications of the new direction the country is taking,

And what happens if that private insurance and private medical care is not forthcoming? Is there a back-up plan in place in case the socialist plan fails? There is usually such a strong faith in socialist programs themselves that the idea of these programs ever failing is inconceivable to its originators.

You must have missed this part of the post you quoted:

Others would contend that because the government is actively involved the free market system it is socialism, or at least creeping socialism.

What back up plan does the government have if not enough doctors or young people care to participate. Will private enterprise than make a comeback in the medical professional. There seems to be that possibility.http://www.thehappymd.com/blog/bid/285923/Concierge-Medicine-will-get-Massive-Boost-from-Obamacare

Others would contend that, yes. Others contend a lot of things that are not so.

What is the back up system if doctors and patients don't participate in the system? It will fall apart, of course, just as any system will if people don't participate.

No, there is no back up system, which makes one wonder just why anyone is so invested in its failure.

No, it can't.

FYI, "socialism" does not mean "things Mr. Nick doesn't like."

Brussel sprouts are nasty. Therefore brussel sprouts are socialist!

First of all what is this "gesture of hope" BS? I didn't know whether to put this in media bias or here. I have no problem with him giving the guy a formal handshake in a situation like this but he seems like he is really infatuated with the guy and it looks to me like he is bowing again. Why is he so warm and subservient to this commie thug.

This is the worst thing since slavery.

No, there is no back up system, which makes one wonder just why anyone is so invested in its failure.

In private industry there is usually a Plan B to deal with changes in the marketplace, the product flaws, or whatever possible developments might occur. In the case of Obamacare they didn't even foresee the possibilities that a computer website may not work in time it was supposed to.

Now they are finally going to open an investigation into where all the millions of dollars went, though we know no one will really be held responsible anymore than they have in previous scandals.

I don't know who is 'invested in it's failure', but there are those, like myself, who are just watching it fail. It's impossible to ignore.

In fact the Castros do have slaves, a whole island of them. Barrack Obama is certainly no Abraham Lincoln.

The desperation to draw parallels between unparallel things is hilarious.
