Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

You would prefer that he had spit in Castro's face, eh?

I would prefer he stood up like the leader of the free world instead of bowing down to this little Castro thug. I would prefer that he exuded power and confidence instead of adoration and a quick formal hand shake with a steady gaze and then move on without any real acknowledgment is what I would have preferred.

I dont think many liberals understand this. They believe in strength through weakness.

I thought, as it was posted earlier in this thread, that Cuba has a national health system and more doctors than anywhere else.

How can the people be suffering in Cuba and why would it be the fault of the US if Cuba can get whatever they want from Russia?

If you really care about Cuban citizens, click the link and read the report to see the specifics on how our embargo has hurt them. I'm not advocating giving anything to Cuba, just want to see relations between the two countries normalized and the embargo lifted and relief for Cubans. As for Russia, their economy collapsed, in the late 80's due in large part to US intervention, and they aren't in the best position to provide aid to Cuba.

Shaking hands with a foreign leader is proper conduct regardless.

His bowing to the keeper of the most Holy Islamic shrine, the King of Saudi Arabia, was another thing. But, then, Obama did say he is of the Muslim faith, though the reporter convinced him to change that to saying Christian faith.

No problem with him shaking hands with Castro.
Um, not really.

'Ya know, Obama needs to be impeached for the crap he is taking on the Constitution, but the more Republicans make themselves irrelevant with stupid crap like this, the less hopeful I am that we will ever see it happen.

Nixon had the Ceaucescau's at the White House for a state dinner for chrissakes... (and they stole the silverware)

Everyone has been watching too many macho blow-em up movies. In the real world, there is diplomacy and professionalism. He shook his hand, BFD. The Obama Derangement Syndrome is equal to the stupidity of the Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Angry folk need a constant diet of this kind of twaddle to get through their day.

I don't think you understand that most people in the world have moved beyond 3rd grader playground tactics. "Acting tough" is the camouflage of the weak and terrified. I see them in bars, on tv, and on this forum.

Oh god shaking hands.... Maybe we should just open the door to Cuba and end this pointless embargo.

As opposed to acting weak, which Obama seems to think is working out.

First of all what is this "gesture of hope" BS? I didn't know whether to put this in media bias or here. I have no problem with him giving the guy a formal handshake in a situation like this but he seems like he is really infatuated with the guy and it looks to me like he is bowing again. Why is he so warm and subservient to this commie thug.

Obama couldn't be troubled to go to Margaret Thatcher's funeral. But he has all the time in the world for known communists!

What I was wondering.....was why Carter declined to fly on Air Force one with Obama, Clinton, and Bush?

What do you think about that?

Birds of a feather! Besides, who care what Carter, Clinton, and Bush do. They are not in office.

As is demonstrably evident by the US's shrinking influence-its the US that has insecurity issues.

Unless you can build a time machine and go back to post WWII there's not much we can do about that. We need to evolve and adapt to a new future that is not so dependent on playing world bully. The rest of the world is catching up to us and unless you want to nuke everyone back to the stone age we can't stop it.

Jimmy Carter has frankly and boldly stated that the US is no longer a functioning democracy and due in large part to the concentration of power to the executive branch by his successors, little wonder to me why he wouldn't wish to travel with them, that's what I think.

Yeah well he isn't exactly on Obama and Clinton's good side either.....nor into that exceeding with excess.

Obama would have to bend slightly to look Castro in the eye given their relative heights.

No he would have had only to look down, and Castro to look up. I am shorter than most, and no one bends down like that to look me in the eye. Obama is stumping for a seat in the UN. And he will do anything he thinks makes him favorable for it.

As opposed to the major player on the world scene that Cuba is...

JFK got a little rattled over Cuba when they had missiles trained on the US. 1962, I believe!
