Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

That worked out so well for us in Iraq.
Indeed it did IMO.

Just because Saddam Hussein was a socialist doesn't mean that all socialists should worship him.

He was an evil bastard.

bush* subserviently held hands with terrorists
Could you explain the reasoning that you used to come to that ridiculous conclusion?

It's the same reasoning you used to come to your ridiculous conclusion
No, not really. I think you are simply trying to excuse Obama's behavior.

and it was worth four thousand American lives and uncounted thousands of Iraqi lives, along with however many trillions you believe were spent there, for the result we're seeing in Iraq today?

Getting rid of Castro would have been easier, to be sure, shorter supply lines, a smaller area to secure, but would it have been worth it? What might the result have been?

Invading other nations and deposing dictators, however "socialistic" and however brutal they are doesn't seem to yield good results.

You are just speculating. Monday morning quarterbacking from a position of almost complete ignorance.

Alright, mr. holier than thou Democrat, How many American slaves were killed in WWII?

The evidence suggests that he does. Are you blind?

1. A few of the "bows" were not bows. People claimed he bowed to Castro. He didn't.

2. Even if he did bow on rare occasions, they were simply befitting the custom, not "subservient."

Not really, I was against the invasion from the start. Democrats by and large were not, but we libertarians were never on board with invading a nation that was not an immediate threat to us.
How many American slaves were killed in WWII? What kind of a stupid question is that? Slavery ended long before the start of WWII.

The Dems could have fillibustered the Iraq resolution in the Senate whether or not the majority of them "were not on board".

They didn't so it was a Bi-partisan iniative.

From Bill Clinton to Hillary Clinton to John Kerry, there were multiple Democrats who acknowledged Sadaam HAD WMDs and was looking to go Nuclear.

" We all know he has stored secret supplies of Chemical and Biological weapons throughout his Country "
Al Gore, Sept 23 2003

So the whole " Bush lied people died " bit of nonsense really doesn't apply.

Personally I don't see how the Iraq war is relevent what so ever, unless your'e bringing it up for purely political reasons and given the numerous statements of Democrats who acknowledged his possession of WMDs from 1998-2003, making a political point doesn't really make any sense.

Our Cuban foreign Policy should be based exclusively on issues that pertain to that Island and its people.

Yes, it was a bi partisan mistake.
It was brought up because the suggestion was made that we should have invaded Cuba as we did Iraq.
My point was that such an invasion would likely be as effective as the invasion of Iraq was.

Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. It think it would be wise to look at the war in Iraq before deciding we should have invaded Cuba. Maybe we need to go back further as well, to the invasion of Vietnam, then decide whether invading foreign nations because we don't like their governments is really a good idea.

I don't think we should invade Cuba either, but I don't think we should normalize relations with them either.

Plus, I don't think either party wants to even approach that issue seriously.

Plenty of Cubans in Florida that hate Castro and his brother, and plenty of people who sympathize with their anger.

Obviously we can't blockade China, or other large Dictatorships, but we can keep Castro and his Brother from acquiring new hardware that would make their job of terrorizing their people a little easier.

Again, Cuban foreign policy shouldn't be based on our Chinese foreign policy or our Iranian foreign policy.

Its a bit naive to think we would be forced for some reason to apply a blanket policy of isolation towards all dictatorships.

I don't think we should invade Cuba, either, which was my original point. I don't even remember now who suggested it, but it was a bad idea. As for normalizing relations, there is no logical reason why not, but, then, there is little to gain as well and a large contingent of voters in Florida who would be very angry at anyone suggesting that we do normalize relations.
