Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

The point is that you're wrong about young Cubans. They know the Castros and the rebellion that brought them to power. They know Cuban history when Batista, the US, and the Mafia controlled Cuba. They know the history of the Bay of Pigs.

They want to be Cubans, not Americans.

Well if they want to be Cuban's so bad let them go back if Castro will let them in that is.

Go back to where? They are already in Cuba, their homeland. We are talking about young CUBANS are we not?

If you're talking about Cuban-Americans, that's a different story. Most don't really have a choice.

Sorry we got on different pages. I was talking about Cuban youth in America not some poor brainwashed kid in Cuba.

No problem brother. The confusion was mine.

So we're talking brainwashed American kids. :0)

Has anybody heard some of the interviews of some Cubans in Florida?

They are pretty pissed off that Obama shook the blood soaked hand of their enemy.

Wow I'm so proud of Obama! I hope this changes things!

Yes Obamas hand is magical and now there is no embargo with Cuba.

Good work Obama.

Well good on them because if they feel that way I don't want them to be Americans either. Funny how they still keep coming here to try to be Americans despite what you say.

Not sure he cares. Cubans in Florida vote straight republican anyway .. and many are as racist as any right-winger .. which is why they ran from Cuba.

Yes his magical handshake will right all the wrongs in the WORLD!

He should get a few more terms to fix everything.

When the embargo is lifted that will change.

Whether you want them to be Americans or not makes no difference.

I think you need to open a section for "TICKY TAC BS" because type of threads are becoming petty.

No it won't, what will change? What commodity does Cuba offer that the US needs to restore trade with them? What do they possibly have to trade? There is no reason for us to lift the embargo and every reason for us to maintain it. Immigration won't be affected one bit other than to possibly make it harder to immigrate to the US for the multitude of Cubans that want to leave that hole.

Fleeing Cuba is racist?

It's always good to hear from committed Democrats.

That's fine, Personally if we start normal relations with Cuba I am fine with it, if we continue on with what we have been doing since around 1960, I am fine with it. Either way I won't be upset. But one thing I do know, if after 60 plus years we have seen no improvement at all with the Castro regime, that perhaps it is time to try something else. What that is I don't know, but 60 years of sanctions have accomplished nothing outside of making some people feel good here in the states. They have not helped the Cuban people one bit.

The Cubans really have noting to trade except sun, sand and sex. If they had anything else to trade they could trade with every other country in the world. They don't need the US to survive.

So what, they don't control US foreign policy. Some one needs to poll americans on their feelings about normalizing relations with Cuba.

True or not, there's plenty of documentation that the US embargo on Cuba has hurt the Cuban citizens.

Barrack Obama may have JUST assured the Sunshine State for Republicans.

How so? For tourism?

The blame on hurting the Cuban people lies directly on the heads of the Castro family and no one else. Americans are always too eager to blame themselves for the woes of the world.

Are there any world leaders around today, with the exception of North Korea, who are less like Nelson Mandela than the Castros? It's amazing that any of them were even invited.

No but sun, sand and sex sounds good to me, now don't go forgetting the cigars. I would agree, they survived for 50 plus years without us and can do so for another 50. But the Cuba under Batista was a very swinging place.

So what again! Both parties deliver us the same thing in the end. A road to tyranny. I'm talking about Cuban citizens, not politics.

My care needle barely budged. While this kind of gesture should be saved for formal diplomatic meetings with dictators I see no real issue here. It's more what Obama deals away to dictators in formal diplomatic meetings that sets me off.

Maybe not so much anymore:

For Republicans ruminating over why their party lost the presidential election, here's something else to digest from the swing state of Florida. Cuban-Americans — long a reliable Republican voting bloc — split almost evenly between Mitt Romney and President Obama, according to at least one group's exit polls.
