Obama shakes hands with Cuba's Castro in 'gesture of hope'

No, that's a Middle Eastern custom.

But, congragulations on being the first to drag Bush into it...lol

That is a classic apologist.

I love Cuba. Best holiday I ever had was two weeks of bouncing a rented car over some of the worst roads ever and meeting some of the best people.
Kinda nice, too that all the other tourists were Canadians and Europeans, knowwhatImean?

I love Cubans. Warm, loving people and some simply gorgeous women. The food is insanely great. But that country is a crap hole under communist rule.
Maybe try hearing real stories of communist rule, instead of vacationing with Canadians and Europeans, knowwhatImean?

I am an American citizen, I have the right to criticize you! And, I have no desire for your butt. :)

Your right to harass me ends where the rules of this private forum say it ends.

We aren't the worlds bully. Besides, Im sure Russia and China are *****cats-deep down.

You may want to take a history class and take a look at what the U.S. has done in the last 70 years.

Also our military budget dwarfs everyone else yet you're still scared?

Typical wet your pants scared conservative.

You don't have a right to be critical of other posters on these boards, which is why there are moderators. If you can't handle this topic then you might try somewhere else.

Untrue, we are the worlds sole superpower. Perspective is lacking, on your part.

That's because Clinton and Obama are Corporatist Liberal Democrats......Carter isn't.

Which nicely dovetails into another point I like to make. So are conservatives! Which is why I say you get the same thing in America regardless of which party we have. Carter wasn't a corporate player, AT ALL. He turned down the thermostat in the WH, and put on a sweater, he put solar panels on the roof of the WH, and advocated an energy policy that would have us by now far advanced in alternative energy. No friend of big oil. He was never going to have a second term. Btw, removing the solar panels from the WH roof was one of the first things Reagan did, the big oil man. Also, jimmy Carter left the WH and put on his bags and started building Habitat for Humanity, ever the humanitarian and advocate for the little guy that he ever has been. Not traipsing around the country (world) giving speeches and amassing 100 million dollars in personal wealth as Clinton has. I don't blame him for catching a different flight.

How many monies (trillions) of debt does it take till we are no longer "thee" worlds super power? Or is that only defined by our ability to take our armed forces anywhere we want in the world and destroy life and property for any reason that suits our fancy, even lies?

Third world countries are fun to visit but I notice you didn't stay there.

We are the worlds superpower scientifically, agriculturally, militarily, and culturally.

Its called American exceptionalism, and its what you never studied under critical theory.

And you have an elitist attitude. Sound agricultural practices kept the world alive for millennia before snot nosed Americans showed up on the seen, and apparently it has escaped you that we have been slipping for sometime in the sciences, MIT graduates are being alarmingly lured away from the sciences and onto Wall Street. And as for culture, that's subjective. America is long past its apex and attitudes like yours will only ensure we continue our decline.

Actually I think it's attitudes like yours leading to our decline.

What - you don't want Cuban cigars? What do we get from other countries except the oil countries? You think Saudi Arabia is nicer than Cuba? At least Cuba has great, cheap resorts that everyone else in the world enjoys and we can't. Most African countries have little to offer, less than Cuba.

Good point.
Opening up more Caribbean beaches for lounging is a great idea.
Imagine ordering a Cuba Libre on a newly liberated Cuban beach.
Take that, Fidel !!

Oh puhleeze. You think your egotistical attitude is what created the U.S.? There are many major events and circumstances going back centuries that led to U.S. dominance, and not a single one of them has a thing to do with holding your nose high in the air and patting yourself on the back.

We are elite by any measure, there has never been a nation like the US. Despite "slipping" in performance-we also educate everyone, and are not a homogenous population. American's are not being lured from the hard sciences to wall street, its not even close. However less and less grads of US tech schools are American, and many leave after they graduate.

Nothing I stated is subjective-BY ALL OBJECTIVE MEASURES we simply lap the rest of the world. This is news, because you have been brought up to think this nation is a bad place-in doing so you show you lack perspective.

What made this nation is what all of the immigrants coming here know-that nowhere else on earth is there a place like the US. Where people have a chance to make a better life-they are voting with their feet.

The American left thinks hating this nation, thinking it the most racist, hostile, corrupt place on earth is an accurate assessment. I disagree.

I contend that prosperity brings freedom. I remember the USSR and how when we gave in and sent them food, the beginning of the end of Strict Communism was not too far behind.

Yes, lets lay on their beaches, just as we do the rest of the Caribbean and poison their minds with our wealth and our liberties (we still have some) and I believe we'll see real change forced upon the dictators.

The ghost of Meyer Lansky would approve.

First of all what is this "gesture of hope" BS? I didn't know whether to put this in media bias or here. I have no problem with him giving the guy a formal handshake in a situation like this but he seems like he is really infatuated with the guy and it looks to me like he is bowing again. Why is he so warm and subservient to this commie thug.

He's "bowing"? Obama is LEANING IN in that photo. He's not "bowing." Good lord.

I don't bend over when I shake someones hand that is shorter than me and I doubt anyone else does either. Nice excuse though for the bow. The body language here is quite telling. Obama is bowing and leaning forward and has a huge grin while Castro seems a bit taken aback by all the gushing and fawning.

??????

The first step to becoming a better person is the ability to look critically at your self, and your country. Some people can't do that because of their frail ego, so its easier to complement themselves and remain ignorant of reality.
