Texas Campus Cop Kills Unarmed College Student After Sarcastic Remark

Good grief man, you just said it. A cop's statement is "no evidence whatsoever."

Your lying has just put your opinion and worth in this debate to rest.

Oh relax..It is quite likely that the student did more than just a Sarcastic comment. Whether that warranted getting shot 6 times is probably the real question.

Uhm, I'll see if there is a link.

Robert Redus, who was shot and killed by a University of the Incarnate Word police officer last week, was apparently partying in the bars along Saint Mary's Street before he was spotted weaving in traffic along Broadway, nearly colliding with oncoming cars.

Alamo Heights Police Chief Richard Pruitt says they're waiting for toxicology, but they have witnesses who joined in the binge drinking and he believes the level of alcohol played a significant roll in the fight that eventually led to him being shot five times outside of his apartment complex.

Dashcam video was apparently not available to investigators, but an audio recording caught on a lapel mic gave new details to the struggle that started when Cpl. Chris Carter pulled Redus over in the early hours of December 6th.

"Officer Carter instructed Robert Redus 14 times to place his hands behind his back and informed him three times that he was under arrest," Chief Pruitt says. "and to stop resisting 56 times."

During the fight, Redus was able to grab a police baton from Cpl. Carter's hand and use it to beat him about the arm and head. Chief Pruitt says there are bruises that match.

It was when Redus tried to charge the officer that a 40-calibur semi-automatic pistol was pulled.

"He warned Robert Redus four times, 'Stop or I'll shoot,'" Chief Pruitt said, referring to the audio recording.

Cpl. Carter was not armed with a Taser, something that many police forces, including Alamo Heigths, provde to their officer. Asked if Cpl. Carter backed off and let Alamo Heights Police handle the situation, did he think Redus would still be alive, Cheif Pruitt nodded

"It may have had a different outcome, yes."

I'm sure some of our resident "cop haters" will find fault with this. I think the officer was far too nice.

Which has been my point all along... as you can see allll the way back on page #2 post number 16.

I'm sure the kid was doing his part in the altercation... provoking and probably got the best of the guy. It's just ****ed up how such incidences often end up in shootings. Provocation equaling death sentence on the spot? There is just something systemically wrong.

... and his response in this thread is that I wish cops were killed.

Well, we all know what a force of oppression the University of the Incarnate Word police department is just understood to be.

Wise... and I'll admit I'm speculating as most all others in this thread. And when situations are in this stage, you see who you are dealing with. Authoritarians show their true colors when it's speculation time.

If this story is accurate, I think everyone will agree that the circumstances justify the forceful reaction. Initially, the glued camera sounded kind of fishy. If the story is not accurate, we'll know more in the future.

Having worked for a University, I have seen the contempt students can show the campus Police.
Many think they are security guards, but they are in fact licensed Police Officers.
Had this same series of events happened in almost any major city Police Dept,
The student would ether be charged or dead also.
Striking an arresting Officer with a baton, is attempted capital murder of a law enforcement official.
A person cannot do this and expect a good outcome.
If the officer had a Taser, the student would likely be tried and sent to prison.
