Nelson Mandela Dead: Icon of Anti-Apartheid Movement Dies at 95

Nelson Mandela, the former South African president whose stubborn defiance survived 27 years in prison and led to the dismantling of the country's racist and brutal apartheid system, has died. Mandela was 95 years old.Mandela had a number of issues with his health in recent years including repeated hospitalizations with a chronic lung infection.
Mandela had been listed in "serious but stable condition" for since he entered the hospital June 8.
In April, Mandela spent 18 days in the hospital due to a lung infection and was treated for gall stones in December 2012.
Mandela's public appearances had become increasingly rare as he dealt with his declining health.
His last public appearance was in July of 2010, when he attended the final match and closing ceremonies of the soccer World Cup held in South Africa.

RIP. One of the greatest freedom fighters, politicians, civil rights leader, social activist, and revolutionary. RIP Nelson Mandela.

He was a communist who adopted a socialist face. I never considered him a great leader. If anything, he was a symbol while his wife did all the dirty work. Either way, I hope he had a relationship with God.

A great man who truly chnaged his country for the better. Maybe South Africa can finally enter a true post-Apartheid political landscape.

R I P You will be GREATLY missed. A true once in a lifetime type of person. I'm grateful to have been alive to witness the great changes that he inspired. Hopefully his vision will come to fruition one day.

He was an Icon of the ages. RIP, he will be long remembered as one of the worlds greatest leaders and strivers for justice. Him and Gandhi.
