Costco labels bibles "Fiction"

When that's the only relevant standard then I win. If your standard is "people who think like me are right" then you win.

The norm is usually ... er ... normal.

No, the only standard is whether a particular person is actually demonstrably correct in their assertions. How many people agree or disagree is irrelevant.

We can cast doubt on the history of many people in previous times but what is important is their teachings. Can we learn from them, can we understand better the string of thought between ancient man and ourselves to better understand our own humanity? If we want to debate whether Plato, for example, really existed rather than to read and debate what is claimed he has said, rather misses the point.

This is not a debate about Christianity existing or being a good thing it is simply a debate about if Jesus actually existed or not. That is the point.... don't miss it. ;)

I'm talking about Jesus of Nazareth.

There probably was a dude named some varient of Jesus who was also from Nazareth at some point in history. So what? Lot's of Bobs too.

Science is a learning proposition, it changes it's position as we learn more. Religion never changes it's position, even when it's demonstrably wrong. Guess which side I think is better.

Yea you are right.

*eye roll*

Of course it was categorized properly. How could there be outrage? People may believe it to be non fiction, but people believe many different religious writings are non fiction when of course they all are fiction.

No. It should be classified as "religion." Just like you wouldn't toss an encyclopedia into "non fiction" regardless of the technicalities. You would put it in the "reference" section.

What happened to the religious section? There one could find the bible, all sorts of books on Christian, Buddhist, Shintoism, etc.

The REAL question is, how much is the markup on them?

Just how profitable are bible sales?

CostCo isn't a bookstore. If this happened at Barnes & Noble, there would be a case for disrespect. But this was an inadvertent classification (guess) by a store manager and it seems to me way out of proportion.

In our area, it has been merged with "Philosophy."

Greetings, Pero. :2wave:

Cosco is like Sams I take it.

But it is fiction, why any outrage or disrespect?

Yea you are right.

Yes I am. Do you know how long it took the Catholic Church to finally admit it was wrong about Galileo and officially apologize? 359 years. Do try again.

Exactly. They are also well known for paying high wages.

But you have to buy a huge quantity of everything so guys like me don't shop there. What do I need with 600 zip-lock bags?

I buy stuff like toilet paper, paper towels, Tide, can goods and stuff like that at Sams. Stuff that won't spoil or go bad. But since most of the stuff they sell is in bulk and it being the wife and me I only have to shop there about once ever other month. I hate shopping so it is a good thing to have a Sams around. I usually get my jeans, t-shirts, socks and stuff there too. Pretty good deals.

Their books and DVD's always seemed a bit expensive to me, so I don't even both to look at them anymore.

I don't read "best sellers" so I never really looked but I'm pretty sure that "books" are just "books" in these mega-stores and they probably have, at most, fiction and non-fiction, not a theology section. So, this is what Shakespeare called "Much Ado About Nothing".

I read a lot and I get most of my books from Hamilton books. they use to be known as Bargain Books. Most are out of print or several years old, but the prices are great. I am into history, bio's, stuff like that. They sell hard covers and soft covers. Pretty good deals.

Costco -- the Bible is fiction | Fox News I have no opinion on this but does anyone have any outrage to share?

bibles are not fiction nor belong in fiction, they belong in either religion or theology.

people need to understand the difference between religion and fiction, religion is a beliefeven if not proven, while fiction is simply made up,and not intended to be believed.

Dude! You don't have a Kindle yet? Really, thousands of free books and much lower prices for many others. Best invention since the GPS.

And the bible is simply made up.

I believe your exact words were "religion never changes."

Would you like me to directly quote what you said with a post number? And then link the above statement? Because as it seems...it DID change. As a matter of fact...it seems you just attested to it.

A little tip. When trying to be a smartass...don't contradict yourself in your very next response.

I'm old fashioned. Heck I didn't even have a computer in the house until around 5 years ago. I still have my landline although my daughter gave me a cell phone a couple of years back. The kind I can make and receive calls on. There is something about paper I love. I had three book cases full of books and was ready to build a fourth when the wife made me put all them books into boxes.

We have both Sam's and BJ's Wholesale Club in this area. Pricing is simliar at both, so they do compete with each other and WalMart.
