HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department is responding to charges of racial profiling after handcuffing a teenage white girl and removing her from the care of two black men.

Officers took the young dancer to Child Protective Services even though she was right where her mother wanted her to be.

She just wanted to make a dance video in Houston, and had her parents' blessing. Instead, she ended up in a CPS shelter. Why? Because her instructors were both black. And, while her mother was attempting to clear this up on the phone with HPD, they accused her of bad parenting. "Do you realize that your daughter is with 2 black men?". Yea, they actually said that. Absolutely disgusting. These 2 black men were not pimps, kidnappers or rapists. They were freakin' dance instructors, and damn good ones too.

I hope her parents sue HPD for as much as they can get. They deserve it after what HPD put them through. And, dont dare to tell me that institutional racism is dead. If you really believe that crap, then you are living in a cave.

I am not sure that a white person can sue and win on a claim that she was racially discriminated against by white people for being white, not in Texas at least.....

I can understand the initial mix-up as it was 3am, however it should have been obvious after some investigating that everything was ok. How could they not tell the difference between crackhead pimps and dance instructors? Its pretty easy to tell the difference between people who live a hard street life and normal folk.

Racism is down, but it's not out. Maybe if we keep punching it, we'll eventually kill it, but it's going to be around for a while yet.

And what proof do you have it was racially motivated other then assumptions and speculations?
Just assuming and speculating with no evidence it was racially motivated is racist in its self

The clue, in case you missed it, was the exclusive use of black when describing the two men her daughter was with. It was not that they were older men, thuggish men, dangerous men, brutish men or criminal record men, it was simply that they were black men.

Are you kidding me? Use of physical appearance and time of day is OK so long as race is not used? Are you asserting that pimps can not have day jobs, or that dance instructors cannot be substance abusers? The point is that judging a book by its cover is wrong in all cases. It should have been obvious that no crime, at all, was being committed, thus all of the folks left to go about their business.

Yup, and the kicker here was when HPD told the parents their daughter was with 2 black men, and the parents said it was OK because they knew them, the accused they parents of bad parenting, and even after talking to the parents, they still took the daughter to CPS.

Well, you know how those bad parents, that would rent out their daughter to black men, lie. ;)

so if a description of a suspect is given then it is racist if you give description as being black so then would it be racist if you give a description of a suspect and say they are white?

The color of an individual is used all the time to give a description and when it isn't initially provided law enforcement asks. so now we are not allowed to use the color of someone's skin when giving a description with out being called a racist? this is bull crap and PC has become nothing but a nonsensical illogical joke

Your statements are so bizarre I can't even begin to try and think like you.

Its not ok to judge people's physical appearance? Huh? Wha? This is police work 101. You look at their disposition, their hygiene, do they have any cuts, bruises, etc. Is the car filthy? Are there empty cigarette packs all over, trash, etc? Are the people clean, shaven, hair combed, showered, clean clothes, clean teeth...? This all tells you what kind of people you may be dealing with.

Time of day should not be a factor? What planet are you from? At 3am many people out and about are up to criminal activity. I think the estimate is that something like 50% of all drivers after midnight are drunk. Any person with the slightest bit of common sense does not go out at night if they are doing anything illegal because the police are all over aggressively seeking out criminal activity, pulling over vehicles, watching people. This is again police work 101.

If a pimp had a day job what would he be doing out at 3am? This does not even make sense, wth are you trying to prove? Dance instructors can be substance abusers, sure, but... again what are you trying to prove here? It is not logical.

Judging a book by its cover is wrong in all cases? No its not, wth? Its one of the most basic survival instincts humans have. This is one of the most basic tenets of police work is sizing up who you are dealing with, what kind of person is this? Which is the main point I was trying to make that if you can't tell the difference between two pimps and an underage hooker and two dance instructors and a dancer you probably shouldn't be a police officer. Not to mention once the investigating officers were shown paperwork and whatnot they should have realized their mistake.

Again, think about that a bit. They knew the men's names and they were not "suspects" since there was no alleged crime. Asking the mother if she knew that her daughter was with Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones would be proper, and more informative, would it not?

If they really said the quote "Do you realize that your daughter is with 2 black men?" then there is a pretty clear indicator of their motivation. Why were they concerned she was with 'two black men'? Wouldnt it be equally disconcerting if they were concerned about her welfare if she were found at 3AM with two white men? Or two green men?

Now...all that being said...I can certainly see where there might be a level of concern. As a parent, I would be grateful for the phone call. the part that DOESNT make a ton of sense is that even after the parents spoke with the police, faxed copies of their licenses, confirmed everything they still werent convinced. Thats a little...weird.

agreed 100%

age vs time of night = legit concern

once proper documents are supplied that should have been enough
the phone call and custody are an extra step that IMO werent needed but at least sorta justified
after the phone call, faxes etc then its outrageous

and if the local OK police did call the texas police also then its just down right insane, offensive and ignorant

didn't miss anything other then your assumptions and speculation. how do you know their names were not given did it say in the article that the police didn't release their names to the mother?

all you are doing is trying to see something that isn't there so to bolster your racism narrative. Just like in the Martin/Zimmerman case trying to make race an issue when no evidence of race being an issue existed
racism will never die when people like you see everything as racist

I am using what "facts" were supplied in the story while you, on the other hand, are using what was not said in the article (speculation?) to bolster your assertions. Keep up the good speculating!

I dont know about racial profiling lol

but as a parent, if they had documentation, if they did talk to me and if the local police did verify everything I do everything i can to press charges and i would be unbelievable pissed off at that cops very poor conduct.

If all that is true theres no excuse putting my daughter through that

and what facts are those so far all you provided is assumptions

Go to the hood at 10 pm and see if you don't get racially profiled.

Since I am white, and I assume "the hood" is meant to be a non-white area:

Are you expecting that the police will stop/arrest me for looking racially out of place?

Are you expecting that I will likely be racially targeted by local criminals?

Go to the hood at 10 pm and see if you don't get racially profiled.

I actually live in the "hood", and I don't get racially profiled at all. As a matter of fact, I barbecue with a couple of cops all the time. One of them lives 2 doors down. LOL.

What "hood" you live in? Channelview?
