Seattle Restaurant Ejects Customer Wearing Google Glass

No doubt filming someone without their knowledge etc is creepy, but at some point we have to acknowledge and face reality, which is that the technology is getting do small, inconspicuous , and integrated in to our lives that at some point you will no longer be able to stop it.
.

Again...there are cameras everywhere these days, ESPECIALLY in businesses. Stores, gas stations, office common areas, restaurants, public meeting spaces, inside and outside.

Not familiar with the whole story by prohibiting pictures and video inside your business is well within your legal means and doesn't violate anybody rights.

Now i dont know if this guy was just kicked out, or asked to take the glasses off and he refused or he was banned etc and theres probably a good tact a buisness could practice but besides that i dont see anything wrong here.

Have to look into it more.

As long as the reason is not against the law, such as discriminatory, in WA St a business owner can ask someone to leave their business for any (legal) reason.

It's not breaking the law to enter with, say, no shoes or a gun or Google glasses, but to refuse to leave when asked is trespassing...which is a crime.

.............................

Yet you have no problem with people videoing cops. Hmm.

Somewhat different IMO.

Altho as I've already pointed out...that business owner can and probably already is videoing the interiors and exterior of his business.

That was actually my point. Right or wrong the owner is farting into a hurricane.

Not in this state.

I see a market opening for a pocket sized EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) type function which pulses every 20 seconds or so to disrupt electronics, hopefully without burning them out. If its peoples rights to use Google glasses wherever they go the same rights apply to the shop owner who can disrupt the use of those devices once a user enters their establishment.

I think celebrities would love something like that to disable paparazzi cameras.

My comment that the owner is "farting into a hurricane" wasn't about whether he was legally allowed to make the Glass Guy leave, but that he's so behind the cultural curve that in a year he'll be a heart beat away from that caveman who was bitching that everything went south since the invention of fire. It's called being on the losing end of history.

Sorry, I don't give up freedoms so easily. I come from a generation that had family and friends die because some were too giving of their freedom to those who wished to abuse it. History should remind you that "adapting and thriving" can, without diligence, lead to containment and erosion of liberty.

And just to be clear, not all techological advancements lead to society thriving. Many would argue that lots of current technological advancements have led to decay. I'd put the Google Glass right up there in the category of useless toy ripe for abusive use.

OK fine. Rather than grandstand, though, what would you suggest we do?

If you choose to be on the internet and understand your movements are being watched, then that was your choice.

If I go into a restaurant, I did not choose to be videoed and uploaded to Google.

Do you see a difference there?

Yes but again, I ask the same thing to you I asked to CanadaJohn. What would you propose we do?

By the way, that same restaurant might have a security camera and you would never know who is on the other end watching.

This. Exactly. And there will only be more and more in the future as they get smaller, cheaper, and easier to hide. So we can either choose to kick and scream and grandstand about our long lost liberties, or we can adapt to the realities of the new world.

See my post #167. Are you going to ban loud talkers too? What about people who blow their noses? That is the MOST rude and disgusting thing to do inside of a restaurant IMO. How about we ban the nose blowers?

All that also has my vote! :2razz:

Don't know the nature of the restaurant. There are top dollar restaurants that will quickly evict anyone taking photos. REAL FAST. How could wealthy men and women take their affairs anywhere without that? We're talking about restaurants where the minimum a check will be is $100 a person IF they order water - and if they order water they won't be coming back except for weekday lunch.

Please excuse my ignorance and tell WTF is "google glass"?

No offense but if you can log into this board with your user name and password, you should be able to type in Google and then type in "google glass" to get your answer.

Well, it's a little hard to imagine anyone going to The Little Door in Beverly Hills and spending the evening (and at least $200) checking their email on their iphone. In isolated cases it would probably be tolerated, but otherwise I could see the management taking action.

I'd suggest people mind their own business and live their own lives without adversely impacting on the lives of others, even if technology makes it easy to do so. Only a jackass needs to film other people eating, listen to other people eating, and post online for millions of other jackasses to view because they don't have lives of their own worth living or they haven't yet figured out how to live without some contraption strapped to their heads/ears/eyes/navels, whatever.

I'm sure there will be many who can't wait to spend $1500 to look like a jerk, but i can't say i'll shed any tears if Google Glass doesn't make it's way down under.

In other words, you want to pontificate from your rocking chair, huff and puff, and offer no substantive alternative or solutions.

If you're trying to convince me that people shouldn't film one another without the other party knowing, you're preaching to the choir. In other words, no duh.

That's kind of like saying people should respect each other's property and not steal from one another. Well no ****, sherlock.

It goes without saying, though, that some people are going to do it anyway. Which is why the productive discussion to be having is what to do about it.

Don't waste anymore of my time bloviating about how your generation believes in liberty, etc etc etc and other nonsense. Suggest a solution or accept the inevitable. Anything else, and my generation has a word for it: it's called "whining."

I hear you! It's just too bad that people don't have the common courtesy to know better.

US woman denies distracted driving due to Google Glass

Woman with speeding ticket and also ticket indicated distracted driving due to google glass.

She denies it was turned on.

I have a question. If they are not prescription lenses, why wear them in a car? I have not worn google glasses, but it looks like on the camera side, it might cause you to lose a bit of peripheral vision, would this be accurate?

People like you will not allow Google to pay for that moronic container ship they are using as a sales location. 😄

Spending hours perusing a dictionary for a couple of big words does not absolve you of pontificating endlessly.

The irony is hilarious!

It's like the moron driving with an MP3 player and earbuds in place swearing they were not listening to music just before the crash.
