Senate approves nuclear option

I would never underestimate Mcconnell..Trashing PPACA is all about getting the Senate back.. You are magnanimous, especially after the 5-year Cantor Coup and unprecedented sabotage of PPACA.. There comes a time when a Country can no further be divided unless guns are fired, which we have now reached again.. the Founders could not have imagined a Country so gone wrong, even as scandalous as they wereand that is coming--this has the stamp of Elizabeth Warren all over it--we've had enuff Hatuey

So be it..Obama should get to be President at least three years without complete sabotage..he still has the GOP House of Horrors that absolutely refuses to pass any legislation, even their own bills .

I am forgiving because I expect the same. Republicans won't forget the fact Reid got this through. They'll pounce on it and make Democrats look stupid when Democrats complain about "abuses" of something Democrats pushed through and approved. Again, we can go back and forth on who wanted it and who didn't. All that matters is who made it a reality and nobody is going to forget it was Democrats.

can't prove that

Because logically you can't prove a negative. The responsibility is for you to prove your statement is true.

Can I ask why you wouldn't vote for him? Is it because you consider him a RINO?

He is the governor of a very Liberal state......He has a lot of Conservative views....I think I would call him a moderate.

it has been your choice to not be a proud American under Obama--not his failure--own up to your choices--

It's called a sense of pride, sense doesn't allow choice. You don't choose to be prideful

but at least you admit he's a failure as well...;)

Political people wont. Voters could care less. This is just something technical that they don't bother to understand. They don't even know what cloture or a filibuster is. They just believe whatever the media and politicians tell them.

The precedence has been set. The genie is out of the bottle, the cat out of the bag. Today the senate has become just anothr house of representatives with no, absolutely none, minority party rights. Senator Reid will be one of the most famous senators ever. When ever the majority party wants something real bad to be passed in the senate that is being filibustered, they will will the Senator Harry Reid Option. His name will be spoken again and again and again on the floor of the senate when ever the majority party doesn't get its way. The Senator Harry Reid Option.

Vice President Biden, then Senator back in 2005--Speaking on the Senate floor in May of 2005, Biden said, "At its core, the filibuster is not about stopping a nominee or a bill, it's about compromise and moderation.
The current GOP Senate has proven beyond even a rightist hack's shadow of a doubt that this is not 2005..
They want to put a hold on every nominee and investigate two dozen faux outrage scandals, as stated by Sen. Graham..
I'm surprised you would quote that the filibuster is about compromise when you know better..
The GOP is super mad today cuz they can't criticize PPACA and McConnell said just this on the Senate floor!!
The nuclear option extinguishes the power of independents and moderates in the Senate. That's it, they're done.
There are no more moderates on the GOP side with respect to the nuclear option in public..They have given up on their own GOP..Off the record today, many Sen. Collins-types are relieved this is finally out there..
Moderates are important if you need to get to 60 votes to satisfy cloture;
Cloture died today, blame who you will or dance the 2-step that you're not on either side .

That's the problem. The politcally right wing people who matter in Congress won't be too forgiving about this. Aides on both sides will draft speeches feeding the masses bull**** and then they'll use outrageously dangerous options like this as they wish. This is all coming from Hatuey. Proud member of DebatePolitics who has supported and defended Democrats on the forum for nearly a decade.

Under Obama I am ashamed of my country......He has ruined our reputation foreign and domestic......He might be a nice guy but as president he is totally clueless............More and more Americans are feeling the same way....His personal approval is in the 30 percentile now.

is it right for the minority to abuse the majority?

I agree with the exception of Harry Reid being the most dangerous senator ever. I think his heart is probably in the right place, his mind however is poisoned by partisanship and he has chosen the coward's way to approach this. In my book, the most dangerous senator award goes to McCarthy but that's a different discussion for a different thread.

The GOP still has the right to filibuster legislation and SCOTUS nominees and you know this will,
so you're wrong on that one in trying to slam Sen. Reid.
Senator Reid will be one of the most famous senators ever.
How many straws did you need to break the camel's back??

That is absolutely incorrect, as wrong as can be..
Legislation is not included from today..I'll take it as your anti-Sen. Reid--hackery .

Well, there is no accounting for taste, but interesting choice of words, really telling -- your feeling that you are "under" Obama...

What were the rules 40 years ago in the Senate when they were last changed..40 years is a drop in time..

My pride of being an American and my pride of America isn't affected by which idiot politician is currently, and temporarily, sitting in the White House.

I guess it depends on your point of view. Marx saw Communism as the goal so he saw social democracy as a stepping stone towards it.
If one sees social democracy as the goal communism is regarded as the ideal gone way too far.
None of it is etched in stone just because Marx wrote it...unless of course you are a communist and I don't believe you are.

I'm most certainly not a Communist but I have no doubt whatsoever that a whole bunch of people in this country (and government) have a sincere appreciation for Leninism even if they have never been told that's what it is.

In a very real way people who were born in the mid 70's and later never experienced full blown Marxism-Leninism. The Soviet Union is simply something they had to read about in school. They've probably never even heard of Shalamov or Solzhenitsyn and have no idea how a political concept that starts with noble intentions becomes warped into tyranny.
