Senate approves nuclear option

There should be no reason to require 60+ votes for a Presidential nomination. NONE. Finally Harry Reid had the balls to tell the Republicans to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

Yes, and I'm sure the Republicans will soon get the chance to stick Harry where he doesn't shine.

Rush Limbaugh for the Supreme Court!

They were elected to represent the interests of those who chose them. If those interests end up being contrary to the interests of some other group then it's reasonable to expect disagreement.

You liberals need to understand that freedom from opposition isn't freedom at all, it's tyranny.
Freedom from total obstruction is governance.
We aren't talking about the end of all opposition. Republicons can still debate a nominees qualifications and if their points are valid minds can still be changed.
Not many minds need to be changed to deny a nominee their appointment.
They can't just delay forever and for no reason.
A lot closer to democracy than to anarchistic obstruction IMHO.

The Republicans don't do it every time either any more than your idiotic first claim that the Democrats never do it.

You told a lie, you got caught. Learn from it.
I never said never.
I said it is a republicon thing.
...and it is.

Ah. So he didn't "vow" them. He said he would put a hold on any Obama nominee until we find out the hidden particulars of a successful terrorist attack in which a U.S. Ambassador was targeted and killed.

Why would he relate the two?

Actually, the issue was not that the Republicans were filibuster happy, it was simply that Harry Reid calls a cloture vote on every damn thing for no reason at all.

I did the math here.

What the numbers show is that Harry Reid really really really hates floor debates.
So you are trying to say that McConnell isn't filibustering more...it's just that Harry is asking the senate to stop filibustering more?
HA!:lamo

You clearly don't understand who makes the motion for cloture votes, and that move in the broader sense of history. Reid makes the motion as often as possible for political points.

Harry Reid finally comes through

The Senate has voted to change its rules so that a simple majority is required to confirm judicial nominations and executive branch picks — the so-called “nuclear option.”
The final vote was 52-48. The previous threshold was 60 votes to bring such nominations to a final up-or-down vote.
“The threshold for cloture on nominations not including the Supreme Court, is now a majority,” Sen Pat Leahy (D-Vt.), the Senate president pro temp, declared after the vote.
Three Democrats voted with Republicans against the change: Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Mark Pryor (D-Ark.). Levin is a longtime senator; Manchin and Pryor come from red states.
Shortly after the vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) office sent around a memo noting that the Senate has changed its procedures using a majority vote 18 times since 1977. Republicans, though, note that none of the changes rise to the level of today’s change.

Senate approves nuclear option

Of course his action translated means:

Let's do everything possible to get the spotlight off the Obamacare scandle we're responsible for...

How blatant does Senator Reid's dance need to be?

Well when EVERYTHING is filibustered, just maybe Harry and the Democratic caucus have caught on...

Why would Bohner relate the funding of standing law that is already funded, to passing next years budget?
It's called political extortion.

Take off your political blinders for two seconds and ask yourself why the Obama administration would not allow the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, in camera, to see the transcripts from the FBI interviews of the Benghazi survivors and why those same survivors would be banned from testifying, in camera, before those same committees?

What is Obama and the administration trying to hide?

That's absurd, please tell me you're kidding with a comment like that. That's off the charts.

Sounds good now and the Democrats are greatly empowered. No doubt, we will see a wave of social giveaway programs in an effort to buy votes and loyalty.

But now, more than ever, the Democrats have bet the farm and the cows on the success of Obamacare over the next 11 months. If Obamacare succeeds, we'll be all Dem, all the time. If Obamacare fails - and it is FAR too early to tell - then the Republicans will take a terrible revenge.

Interesting times. Watch for the freebie wave and get it while the getting is good.

Ben Gahzeee Ben Ghazee Ben Ghazee... Who is this Ben Ghazee fellow and what does he have to do with Senatorial filibuster rule procedures?:lamo:lamo:lamo

Ummm... before you start drooling over "terrible revenge" ...We are talking about non-Supreme Court presidential appointments only.
The republicon obstructionists are still free to filibuster any and all legislation, all day long if they want.

Ask a serious question, and that's what you have to offer?

No wonder America is in such trouble.

Maybe because having the survivors testify in front of cameras would turn the hearings into a media circus.

I had just heard that the Republican leadership in the House had vowed that if any bill passes the Senate without a 60 vote majority, it will not be taken up by the House. To use Harry Reid's term, it will be "dead on arrival".

True, but sometimes the Senate needs to get something done.

Why? Why does someone always have to be doing something? It used to work just the way it was. Repeal it all, go back to square one. Miraculously, I'm willing to wager a fair amount at the very least, our economic situation will drastically improve. Our foreign issues will cease (as we will once again have a neutral policy).

Always trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Thankfully.

Reid did this to himself. If you plan on undermining the very fabric of our nation by killing the system of checks and balances, be prepared to deal with the consequences of said actions. He had zero foresight, in typical leftist knee-jerk reaction he ran with a completely idiotic plan, and now he's going to have a solid 2 years of absolutely zero movement. Congrats harry, you've effectively neutered the administration and the senate. High five.

And....don't complain when GOP/Libertarians (which I do believe will come around in 2 years time) take the reins and utilize Harrys new rules. Two way street my friend.
