Hephzibah, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) — A mother has been banned from her daughter’s school after she posted her concealed weapons permit on her Facebook page.

That's fine. I hope my childs' public school does something like that. That way I can suffer mental anguish, my son can suffer mental and emotional anguish, and we will need large fiscal compensations to not only help make us whole, but also provide for his far superior private education down the street.

Oh. And the next year I will run for Superintendent and make every day of that Principals' life a living hell until she quits.

They're not simply saying "don't bring your gun to school" (already illegal probably)... but "YOU can't come to school because (gasp!) you have a PERMIT to carry!!"

"Extremely stupid" to post a picture of her State-issued Concealed Weapons Permit? Seriously?

The principal had no lawful or sensible reason to prohibit Ms. Mount from school property or to involve the police. She overstepped her authority because of her irrational prejudice, and I hope she is appropriately disciplined.

First of all she shouldn't have posted that on facebook. But I think the school is nuts. I myself have a cwp and pick up my granddaughter from school everyday. But it stays in my wallet and I sure wouldn't post it on facebook or any other site. But before one can obtain a CWP they must go through a background check before the probate judge will issue one. This mother probably has a cleaner record than most of the other parents of that school. I wonder how many of them have gone though a background check.

Heck, Hephzibah is right near Augusta and Ft. Gordon and I would venture to say there are quite a lot of parents of those kids in that school with CWP's. That is one crazy school or principal.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly and I am from Georgia. My son lives in Augusta and Augusta is home to Ft. Gordon. I would imagine quite a lot of kids in that school, Hephzibah is in the Augusta are kids from the soldiers at Ft. Gordon. If that princapal every found out how many parents sending kids to that school that has a CWP, he probably would crap his pants. But I suppose this has more to do with her posting on facebook than the fact she has one. But again maybe not.

Yes, I said extremely stupid, and I am damn serious about it.

I have a permit myself, and it is not discussed outside of family and very close friends.

It is common sense to keep one's mouth shut about family business, period.

It also makes sense to share zero personal information on one's FB page if one is stupid enough to have one.

Is the principal a moron? Of course.

It could have all been avoided if Mommy had kept her mouth shut in the first place.

I have no sympathy for the pickle that she put herself in.

That's ridiculous. People shouldn't have to worry about being punished by petty bureaucrats for doing perfectly legal things, and people who live in civilized, armed societies should not piss their ****ing pants when they find out that someone is lawfully armed. The assumption in American society should be that everyone is armed, and these worthless ****ing cowards need to learn to deal with it.

Eric Holder said that gun owners should be forced to "cower in shame". Treating your arming rights like a shameful secret is giving him what he wants and making it easier for him and for men like him to take those rights away.

You may be exercising your rights like a free citizen, but you sure as hell aren't helping to protect them right now.

I see both sides of this. I agree with SMTA that discretion is prudent, and advertising that you carry isn't generally a great idea.


However, I also see Korimyr's point... getting a carry permit is perfectly LEGAL, she was probably proud she got it and showing off for family and friends that knew she was taking the class... unwise on a public forum like FB but understandable, and the point is it's LEGAL and there is no reason a person should have to be ASHAMED, let alone FEAR RETRIBUTION simply for exercising a Constitutional right in a legal manner.


Let's not 'blame the victim' here... the PRINCIPAL is the one who is way, WAY out of line.

I assume everyone in this thread that is complaining that the woman made it known on facebook that she exercised her right to receivea Concealed weapons permit, that they also will complain when someone states on facebook that they've exercised their right to vote.

Better get the BOE to stop issuing "I voted today" stickers too.
