New Jersey police are responding to an "active shooter" alert after shots were fired at the Garden State Plaza Mall at about 9 p.m. this evening, authorities say.

Damn, not again.

Just another reason why we need to concentrate on our childrens educations.

Is it a gun free mall?

No reports of injuries. Someone posted on FB they thought the person got away. All of course subject to change. Just the scuttlebutt I heard.

Of course, I'm hearing that they only found one shell casing from the shooter.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be another major tragedy.

Where did I call for gun restrictions? Did I stutter or did you just assume because I'm liberal?

Wow, someone needs a Zanax. I asked a question, the answer of course, is "yes it's a gun free mall". Ergo, a "safe environment" for mass shooters.

Xanax is the brand name for alprazolam.

After oxycodone, the second most useful pill in the world.

People have been shot and killed at gun shows and gun ranges, too.

I really don't think this is a lack of education issue, but a lack of stress management skills issue, and a dysfunctional cultural problem. It seems that an inordinant number of individuals are losing their freaking minds these days.

I'm listening to the police scanner. They have cops, staties, and FBI on scene as well as various swat. They're sweeping the mall now.

why do you think that is Lizzie? I read a lot of the gun debates on here and sometimes get involved myself but it seems no one has the right answer. Do you blame a violent media culture or maybe a overly medicated population? Or maybe something else?

Useful in the effort to destroy your brain. It's also one of the most over prescribed pills in the world.

My brain is just excellent, thank you. Those of my genius can distinguish between use and abuse.

If you were brainwashed, would you be aware that you were brainwashed?

Very likely multiple factors, but imo, the most critical factor is a lack of good and consistent parenting during childhood. It seems that many people aren't being taught to handle problems well, manage emotional crises, and are not learning how to form intimate human relationships, thus spend their lives feeling isolated from humanity. This is one of the things which enables them to kill their fellow man.

No kidding.

I grew up on Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner cartoons and John Wayne movies, and I don't have issues.

Good parenting works wonders.

Bad people do bad things.

1. Medication dulls emotion
2. Ultra violent culture (video games, movies are mostly anti-human pro-violence)
3. Total loss of spiritual thinking, the younger generation is primarily Epicurean-atheist who first and foremost work for self (recipe for disaster combined with the two aforementioned attributes)

Well, it was much ado, but it was about something. It was about a man who wanted to die.

Careful investigation and intelligent analysis would help to identify potential trigger points or behavior issues for education and prevention.

Well, I'm not really advocating for any increase in governmental authority in our lives. It was just a commentary on how it was much ado about a man who was so miserable that he wanted it ended. To you and I, it has no meaningful effect in our lives, but for the shooter, it was indeed much ado.

Shooter was a weak minded no spine loser. Probably a drug addled moron to boot.

Nor do I want government morons in my life.

Any way you look at these shootings, there seems to be some level of mental incompetence involved.

In this case, it may have been fueled by drugs and lifestyle from what I have read.

Knowledge is power in any situation, and might allow some insight to future prevention.
