Obama’s pledge that ‘no one will take away’ your health plan

One of the president's most famous promises turns out to be wrong -- and earns 4 Pinocchios.

  • October 30

The administration is defending this pledge with a rather slim reed — that there is nothing in the law that makes insurance companies force people out of plans they were enrolled in before the law passed. That explanation conveniently ignores the regulations written by the administration to implement the law. Moreover, it also ignores the fact that the purpose of the law was to bolster coverage and mandate a robust set of benefits, whether someone wanted to pay for it or not.
The president’s statements were sweeping and unequivocal — and made both before and after the bill became law. The White House now cites technicalities to avoid admitting that he went too far in his repeated pledge, which, after all, is one of the most famous statements of his presidency.
The president’s promise apparently came with a very large caveat: “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan — if we deem it to be adequate.”

I guess Obama didn't take into account on the ruthlessness of the insurance companies and their total disregard for the American public.

Always a mistake to do that. Maybe single payer was the way to go, eh?

Single payer would have been better than ACA. No law at all would have been best.

LOL. That would be the same insurance companies that he is trying to force just about everyone to do business with. If a President thinks they are "evil", "corrupt", "greedy" or as you say "ruthless" and have "total disregard for the American public"
what's that say about him and his decision making process?

Is your idea of single payer more Medicare or Medicaid in design?

Consider that MOST Medicare benefits are administrated only through CMS but the polices are through many of these same ruthless insurance companies. If Medicaid consider the availability of MEDICAL providers for those folks...careful what you wish for as you very well may get it.

Yeah! Damn them for obeying the 11th Commandment!

Actually he did take it into account, he was informed what would happen but decided to lie about it anyways.

Getting to single payer is the ultimate goal. Purposely botch Obamacare, creating a real "healthcare crisis" and people will clamor for single payer, particlarly now that the premise of government-run healthcare has finally been forcibly introduced against Americans.

You can't blame Obama for lying and then thinking nobody would call him on it.

He's been doing this since he arrived in the office and nobody called him on it before.

Fast and Furious, Deficits, Failed Stimulus, Benghazi and the cover ups, AP phone records, IRS targeting, Boeing sued for opening a non-union plant, closing down the non union Gibson guitars, the whole Solyndra money laundering scheme, screwing the GM Bond holders in violation of Federal Law, attacking FOX, attacking James Rosen, the whole foreign policy failure and who knows what else? I'm just working off the top of my soon to dementiaed brain.

Now, finally, the press is able to see what's happening and maybe they will start to ask questions.

Finally start asking questions like where is all that money actually going?

When will we see things begin to improve?

Why do you continue to say one thing and do something entirely different?

It costs that much and it doesn't work? You hired who?

Nah!

How many times do you need to get hit in the head to think like this?

The insurance companies are doing what the law, you know the law of the land that cannot be changed because it's the law of the land, demands.

FYI, don't expect a response...

Well as much as I despise what this president and his accomplices stand for, no one imho possesses the gargantuan level of incompetence and ineptitude as they're demonstrating w/r to Obamacare. There *has* to be an ulterior motive for this president to shame and embarrass himself, and the most powerful office in the world with the incessant, repetitive lies he's been pummeling the public with since campaigning for office.

Yep, and I suspect that once there many will get what the wished for...but if it's modeled after Medicaid they may not like what they get. Frankly this will be the full circle where the 'single payer' participants will have health INSURANCE but limited MEDICAL care options (as before) and those who can/could afford it will continue to receive premium MEDICAL care..we'll see.

Ahyup - it'll be a classic "we told you so" case of having warned people about getting what they wished.
