Lower 2014 income can net huge health care subsidy - SFGate

People whose 2014 income will be a little too high to get subsidized health insurance from Covered California next year should start thinking now about ways to lower it to increase their odds of getting the valuable tax subsidy.
....
There are several ways to reduce MAGI. If you are working, you can make a tax-deductible contribution to an individual retirement account, 401(k) or other workplace plan for 2014. (IRA contributions for 2014 can be made until April 15, 2015.)

You can also consider reducing your 2014 income by working just a bit less.

If there ever was a clear cut benefit from working less to get more, right there is your poster child example.

A tapered subsidy would make more sense. But will the GOP allow such a fix?

Good. that means more work for others....................

To bad millions of Americans didn't get a choice in this thanks to Obamadon'tcare. The negative economic realities of that law required someone else to decide for them.

You'll also have to pay so much less in taxes.

On average, taking a 1000 pay cut will save you 300 in taxes! WOW!

Every time I have a bad year and calculate my earnings I always shout, "Woot, I owe less taxes!"

A few seconds later: "Oh."

UHC takes care of even this issue. Though there is very little that would make anyone happy as anything is too often seen (and wrongly so) as an incentive not to work.

IOW, a couple in their 60's with an income above $60k/yr and no dependent children will be encouraged to save more money for their retirement and this is a bad thing because....?

That comment had nothing to do with socialism.

It had everything to do with it. Its in line with other things he has said in the past about people being forced to work less hours creating more jobs. Its a line of thinking that is rooted in an irrational belief that somehow we would all benefit if some of us didn't work so hard. Its equality by bringing others down. Lunacy.

That thought process has nothing to do with socialism.

That wasn't the point, no. This also is not a characteristic of socialism.

Beats me. But by working less they will most likely make less. So that 60K may turn into 50K. At which point they can be encouraged to save more for retirement but it won't happen. Same to be said about tax increases.

That would be the fault of stupidity not Obamacare. If someone chooses to make less money instead of maximizing their income while decreasing their taxes *and* qualifying themselves for a subsidy, then they got what they deserve for being morons.

You can review his post history if you like. And yes, actually, it is.

No it's not. Having one person work less leaving a job opening for someone else is not a characteristic of socialism.

Holding people back to let others succeed is a characteristic feature of socialism.
