Sen. Susan Collins of Maine suggests way out of budget and debt-ceiling crises

It has everything to with shutting down the government. The House passed a bill that funded everything, but Obamacare. The Libbos didn't go for it.

News flash. No matter how bad a law Obamacare is, it was still passed by both houses of congress, the President signed it, and SCOTUS upheld it. If the law is as bad as you portray it, the Dems will be voted out of both houses and the WH and a repeal will occur. Just because the GOP can't get enough votes doesn't mean you undermine the system and hold the American people hostage. Another new flash: Obamacare is ongoing and the world hasn't stopped, only our government has.

The Democrats haven't offered up a budget in 4 years. There hasn't been anything to negotiate.

The Senate passed their view of a budget in March (yes, after four years), so there has been something to negotiate.

Senate passes budget

You really should research your assertions before posting them. You would save your self of the embarrassment of appearing ill-informed.

The Senate passes the budget. The Senate hasn't passed a budget to vote on. I live here in the real workd.

The Senate doesn't always waste its time with votes on bills they know the House isn't going to pass. Unlike the House GOP.

Lol...by law, the Senate has to adopt a budget. The Senate didn't adopt a budget when the Dems controlled the House. The Libbos are obviously trying to run the country into the ground.

Collins is one of the voices of reason within the Republican Party, and her ability to negotiate honestly is the reason that she is frequently called on to help solve impasses between the 2 parties. I believe her proposal will attract enough votes from both Democrats and Republicans to end the shutdown, as well as the looming default on our debt, which hits in less than a week. Rather than attempting to defund Obamacare, or use poison pills in her proposals, in attempts to make the other side look bad, she has come up with something that is truly bipartisan. Her proposal does kill the medical device tax, but otherwise leaves Obamacare alone. And why not? Obamacare has nothing to do with shutting down the government.

While the GOP has gone off the deep end, Collins remains a voice of reason within the party, which is why her approval rating remains at 69%, as the ratings of others in her party are tanking. She will never be defeated by a Democrat, and the Tea Party will never be able to primary her out of her job. People see her as honest, which she is, and that kind of reputation is everything.

I agree with everything you said. It was reported she worked with Manchin a Democrat from West Virginia on her proposal which Reid turned down. Both seem level headed than the party above country crowd in the leadership positions of both parties.

So instead they waste time doing nothing? Same result. No spending bills, govt shuts down.

Obamacare does nothing to fix any of this. You really need to read the law instead of spewing talking points

It's the truth; something alien to the Libbos.

False Equivalency--What is Repubs is Repubs--what is Dems will be "conversed" about--thanks for playing

That post makes absolutely no sense.

And if a person with a pre-existing condition can't afford the premium? To bad for them.
And if a person doesn't sign up for insurance in an open enrollment period? To bad for them

Yes siree bob, Obanadon'tcarecare didn't change hardly a thing for someone with a pre-existing condition. Fact is they already could get insurance after meeting the wait period that each state required. But who cares about facts that supports Obamadon't care? Nobody.

Wouldn't it be great to have the originators giving a helping hand right about now

Such as Cantor saying he got all he wanted last May in the Ryan budget..
You may want to check the "False Equivalency" definition..
You'll notice it is all about your team.

May I be so bold as to assist with a slight re-wording....

Refusal to fund the law of the land, passed by both Houses, signed into law by the president, and affirmed constitutional by the Supreme Court led the GOP to shut down the government in a temper tantrum akin to two year olds.

so why does your dear leader unilaterally modify implementation of that sacred law and his toadies say nothing

He's not a leader, dear or otherwise. And he does it because he's the same kind of asshole all presidents with that power seem to be. Bush, Clinton, Obama, others as well I imagine, they all f' things up like that, and they all do it to appease corporate interests, not yours, not mine, not anything akin to a real small business. Hope that clears things up for you.

Not for an idea they figured out wouldn't work. And that's not to mention the boatload of additional bad ideas Obamadon'tcare came up with.

it all depends on the content of the 4 bills in question?
I really hate that our Congress does what you're suggesting. I believe each half of Congress should vote on bills when they are presented by the other half. Sure, that would mean more work for them..........And? We pay them enough, they enjoy the perks and power that we give them, and they are the ones that make our gov't so big that it's barely sustainable. Let them enjoy the fruits of having to legislate every blink of a citizen's eye.

But when it does, it involves Obamacare.
Stay partisan my friends.

The problem is both parties maintain this system for when they are in power, even if it hurts them when they arent.
