Republicans Lose Ground vs. Obama in the Shutdown Blame Game

Well, we could look at the list of accomplishments of liberals and then look at the list of accomplishments of conservatives and see who has made the greater contribution to the body politic.

Lincoln was a 'liberal'; he ended slavery.

Conservatives got us prohibition.

Liberals got us laws that ban discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, race, or sexual preference

Conservatives got us the Great Depression

Liberals ended child exploitation

Conservatives got us a downgrade of our sovereign debt

I could go on...

I think that conservatives serve a useful moderating role so that we don't rush off and do things just for the sake of doing them. But conservatism hardly ever provides benefit to society. BTW, by current standards, Reagan was a flaming liberal. He, for example, tripled the national debt and we had to raise the debt ceiling 17 times during his administration.

You are absolutely correct, Reagan tripled the debt and gave us 17 million new taxpayers, doubled the GDP, created a peace dividend, and increased income tax revenue 60%. That 1.7 trillion dollar debt what less than 60% of GDP but you see those results don't matter to liberals. They prefer the 6.4 trillion, stagnant GDP growth, 22 million unemployed/under employed/discouraged workers, and record numbers on food stamps but that is ok apparently because it keeps people dependent on liberals.

Yeah, give me some more MSNBC with Rachael Maddow

Go ahead and find one post where I've ever linked to MSNBC or Rachael Maddow. I don't watch MSNBC. Keep flailing about.

Senate Republicans don't mind losing Cruz and Lee from attending the Republican Policy lunch today..
House Repubs will skin them alive if they don't filibuster for their 30 hours, taking us to the weekend.

It wasn't you, it was someone else. There are others I am responding to on this thread. You seem to have a problem with Fox so tell me what sources do you find credible and what is it in the content of the Fox article that is wrong?

Well then quote them next time.

I am not going to take a conservative op-ed at face value regarding why Barack Obama is an "amateur." I don't much care for what some asshat pundit has to say.

That says it all, not surprising the messenger is the issue with you as you ignore the message. Provide me with the credible sources that you believe

Make me. Sorry pal, but I am not at your beck and call.

My math seems to be different from yours
.
During Reagan's administration: the GDP went from $12.52T (calendar year 1981) to $20.4T (calendar year 1988). That seems a lot closer to 63% increase than a 100% increase. Not that 63% is a bad number (it's a great number) but it isn't 100%. Also, Clinton clocked a 54% increase in GDP and he didn't need to run a big deficit to do it. Hell, Carter (you remember the miserable Carter), the GDP went up by 37% in his one term. If he had been re-elected, he would have done better than Reagan.

During the Reagan presidency, national debt as a percentage of GDP went from 32.9% to 52.6% not 60%. In other words, Reagan managed to grow the debt almost as fast as he grew the economy. Clinton, on the other hand, managed to get his 54% growth in GDP while cutting the debt as a percentage of GDP from 55.6% to 35.6%. So, if we want to go by record of economic accomplishment, Clinton did better than Reagan, by a considerable margin. Now, I might be a bit naïve about such things but I REALLY don't think that anyone would call Clinton a conservative. Clinton did his best work after he managed to make the radical Republicans (in the form of Newt) back down on shutting down the government.

Maybe Obama can stare down the TP fools and have the government get back to real business and do the things to improve the economy that the TP folks are willing to sacrifice at the alter of... crap, I don't know what they want other than for that damn black guy to fail.

LOL. With the ways are reported to be in the House tonight, there's still plenty to negotiate or the Dems can keep on with their shutdown.

Try as you might with your spin, you cannot take the blame away from those who actually crafted and caused the shut-down, the GOP....namely the teabagger faction. Most of America gets it, why not you?

there is a growing mood among independents concerning this shutdown and the pending debt ceiling debacle. They know that the Republicans are more to blame for the shutdown by playing a game of stupid politics that they couldn't win. But over the last week they have seen intransigence on both sides. The President and Senator Reid coming on TV saying they will not negotiate. Although most or a majority of Independents blame the Republicans for the shutdown, they are angry at both parties for continuing the shutdown. A CNN/ORC poll of independents and independents only showed 60% angry at the Republican Congress, 59% angry at the Democrats in congress and 58% angry at President Obama.

Now Independents don't care who started it, don't care who is to blame, they do however want it over. Their ire and wrath are now coming down on both sides for keeping this shutdown gone and they view it as both sides playing political games, games of one up man ship with the future of the country. Let's just get this fixed and move on is their mantra. How doesn't matter, who gets what doesn't matter, who wins and loses doesn't matter, who was right and who was wrong doesn't matter. they view those in Washington from the president on down as egotistical bas-tards who love playing games with other peoples lives. Let's just get this fixed.

Not exactly sure where you get your numbers but we didn't have a 12 trillion dollar GDP in 1981. I get my numbers From BEA.gov.

Table 1.1.5. Gross Domestic Product
[Billions of dollars]
Bureau of Economic Analysis
Last Revised on: July 31, 2013 - Next Release Date August 29, 2013

Line 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1987 1988
1 Gross domestic product 2862.5 3210.9 3345 3638.1 4040.7 4346.7 4590.1 4870.2 5252.6

So not technically a 100% but not bad at all. I would love to post the Clinton numbers but BEA.gov is closed due to the govt. shutdown. Not sure that really matters because Clinton didn't have the recession that Reagan inherited which by the way is arguably worse than the one Obama inherited due to the high misery index. Reagan left Obama with a huge peace dividend.

Clinton did his best work after he managed to make the radical Republicans (in the form of Newt) back down on shutting down the government.

What is the Debt today as a percentage of GDP? Again 52.6% is a lot different than it is today and 1.7 trillion is a lot less than the over 6 trillion that Obama has generated. Clinton didn't make Newt back down, he signed the GOP legislation and did so with negotiation, something Obama doesn't understand. Clinton took a debt that was 4.4 trillion and left it at 5.7 trillion with no recession inherited.

Maybe Obama can stare down the TP fools and have the government get back to real business and do the things to improve the economy that the TP folks are willing to sacrifice at the alter of... crap, I don't know what they want other than for that damn black guy to fail.
'

Maybe Obama can do something out of character and something he is unequipped to do, LEAD. Obama has had 5 years to do something to improve this country and all he has done is take the debt from 10.6 to almost 17 trillion, create more dependence on the govt., actually create an atmosphere for the private sector to create more jobs than when the recession began, stop having people become discouraged and drop out of the labor force

Why do you have to bring race into it. It isn't about race it is about economic results. Why is it people like you want to overlook his results because he is black?

LOL. Liberal spin will not change facts.

The Senate Dems and Obama are the one's who partially shut down the government. They did not pass a law that would keep it open. Then they refused to negotiate for awhile resulting in them not even trying to meet their constitutional responsibilities. Now they decide to negotiate which means they wasted a bunch of time putting on their political theater designed to make as many Americans suffer as possible.

Why don't you get it, the facts stare you right in the face?

Huh...a 60/58/59 (!?!) split among independents on who they are "angry" at.......but they don't care who is to "blame" (!?!)....they just want things to work again!

Since you are apparently speaking for all independents, all 177% of them, is the POTUS "playing with their lives" when he wants them to have health insurance? That is, after all, what this is all about.

Good morning, Pero. :2wave:

Very well stated! People in this country, on both sides of the aisle, are angry and disgusted, and are openly asking "WTH is going on with the idiots in DC?," ...and I've personally heard them say it!

Our legislators are there to govern this country, not play games of one-up-man-ship with each other! We've got serious problems to be handled, and they're playing games? Insane! :2mad:

Wonder if it is good politics to support a program that is supported by 38% of the population but it is good politics to divert from those polls numbers to blaming the Republicans for the shutdown. Liberals do that a lot

RealClearPolitics - Election Other - Public Approval of Health Care Law

Eventually the govt. shutdown is going to end but the reality is that Obamacare will be unpopular and will remain law. My bet is the electorate will remember who created that law

LOL....you aren't even convincing yourself with that BS rhetoric. The vast majority of America knows full well what is going on...and after reading this dribble, I think even you knows what is going on.

LOL....Conservative....you do understand, at least I hope you do, that many of those opposed are opposed because the ACA doesn't go far enough. But of course, you won't be honest in you spin and shuffle.

Yes, that great little socialist utopia that you and your other good little socialists want. Don't think so but could be wrong. Why not destroy the greatest country on the face of the earth like socialism has done in Europe. Cannot wait until you get caught up in the socialist red tape and let's see how happy you are.

Love that signature line as I want to remind you that Cruz/Palin didn't add 6.4 trillion in debt, renege on the 2011 debt ceiling agreement, have 22 million unemployed/under employed/discouraged workers, stagnant economic growth, and the failed Obama economic policies. Yes, I would vote for that ticket or even the Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck ticket over the clowns we have in the WH right now.

shuffle shuffle and more shuffle. Why don't you deal with the facts and be honest about it. A large chunk of those who don't like the ACA are people who don't think it does far enough. You are attempting to extrapolate numbers to fit your propoganda in an extremely dishonest way...but what else is new.

You voted for GWB...not once but TWICE. Enough said. ROTFLMFAO......

I will be very happy to deal with facts but you don't understand the term. What you don't happen to understand is that we don't have an economy growing fast enough to handle a 17 trillion dollar debt and healthcare is an expense that this country cannot afford. Healthcare is a personal responsibility that is best handled at the state and local level since that is where the expense rests. You have no problem giving the Federal bureaucrats another slush fund since they have done so well with the SS and Medicare funds.

I am waiting for you to post the numbers that you claim are wrong and to cite the sources you find credible since bea.gov, bls.gov, and the U.S. Treasury don't qualify in your world. Everything to you that goes against your ideology is propaganda even when backed by facts.

Yeah, I did as the option was Gore and Kerry. Would do it again and unlike you I don't distort the Bush record based upon one year performance.

Conservative can't keep track of all his "shuffles"
