'Truckers for the Constitution' Plan to Slow D.C. Beltway, Arrest Congressmen [W:192]

Thank you very ****ing much for that, because guess what Mr Smartass; jmac being hypocrite doesn't hurt anyone, but Obama being one does.

Next time we'll elect a non-hypocrite. Except that they usually don't run for President.

I am sorry, somebody steal your thunder? It's what pirates do ya know. Glad to see I got your goat. Cheers.:lamo

Ok kid.

After thinking about this more, I had a laugh. Any of you ever actually driven on the beltway, on any given day? Truckers stopped in the middle of the highway with miles of cars behind them is the norm, lol.

The Beltway's a nightmare any weekday, and more on Fridays, but every police agency with jurisdiction touching part of the beltway will be out in force to **** with anyone who's intentionally trying to make things worse. Saturday and Sunday less so, but Friday -- mos def.

I meant Maryland didn't join the Confederacy, but remained a part of the Union. Maryland didn't join the South in secession from the United States.

Matyland's government didn't pick a side, although the citizens were pro-South.

You're talking about shutting down Washington DC. What do you honestly think is going to happen? Tickets? Horse****. There's not a chance in hell the Federal Government would let that stand, nor any of the local (or state) jurisdictions that are covered. It would invite more of the same. If those guys do park their trucks in the road to completely stop the Beltway, they'll be made an example of using whatever rationalization the various police agencies in the area can make up. Fairfax County cops don't care what the law is on the average day, and if these guys try to screw up Fairfax County, the cops will care even less what the law is on that particular day. DC cops, and the various city police forces, plus Maryland and most likely Federal police agencies will all be getting their slice of the pie. You can't just close Washington DC and not expect every police authority within the Beltway to respond. That's just plain naivety. That's not the way these assholes do business. Especially not in the specific areas that would be affected. They can try to argue the letter of the law all day, but they'll be ignored and tossed in jail. If you doubt that, then you obviously don't understand reality.

Also, these would almost certainly be empty trucks. If they have freight to deliver, they're not going to spend an extra 3 days circling DC, and they certainly aren't going to park to stop traffic.

Law enforcement will follow the law...that's what will happen.

Matyland's government didn't pick a side, although the citizens were pro-South.

They decided not to join the South. The government met and discussed it and decided to stay in the United States. They didn't join the rebellion. Also, of the MD citizens who fought, 3/4 of them fought for the United States. Only 1/4 fought against.

Right on brothers, and sisters!!! I hope DC gets shutdown for real!
Having lived in the DC metro area, I am not convinced that the truckers' efforts will be noticeable against the background of the current persistent traffic jams.

Ever boo when the opposing team makes a good play, yet cheer when you team makes a good play?

Same thing.

Apples and oranges. It's hypocritical to support public disruption from one group and not another. But hey, if you want to be hypocrite, so be it.

Illegal parking is a misdemeanor. Nobody's going to jail.

The hypocrisy from you and the right that support this is amazing. The sad part is all the truckers are going to do is piss off regular people and damage their profession in other people's eyes even more. It won't stop ANYTHING in the government and they are just hurting regular people.

I can see these truckers meeting:

Trucker 1: "The government has gone too far".
Trucker 2: "I know, let's create traffic jams and piss off people, that will show the government".
Trucker 1: "Yeah, that's the ticket, YEEEEEHAW".

These truckers involved are ****ing idiots, plain and simple, just like the OWS crowd. They will accomplish nothing but hurt their own cause.

Well I didn't critisize OWS, I think it was ill conceived and failed to accomplish it's goals, but it was a good use of civil disobedience. I support the truckers too.

Again, their plan, just like the OWS crowd, will do nothing but hurt their cause. Pissing off regular people is not going to win people over to their cause.

Illegal parking is a misdemeanor. Nobody's going to jail.

In Virgina almost anything can be prosecuted as reckless driving, and you get jail time for that here.

Aggressive driving: LIS > Code of Virginia > 46.2-868.1
Stopping on highways is specifically mentioned.

Cops have authority to impound vehicles parked on the roadway. LIS > Code of Virginia > 46.2-888

Driving 2 vehicles abrest (let alone 3) can be prosecuted as a felony if they want. Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles

Just because you like what they're doing doesn't mean the cops in this area would successfully prosecute. Virginia is a state full of traffic nazis. You can get jailtime for spinning your wheels for a second at a traffic light. A buddy of mine got 90 days and a 3000 fine for going 90 in a 55 on a motorcycle. Yes, they give jailtime for traffic violations here. And they do it a lot, and if these people stop on the highway to tie up traffic, they'll get arrested. At least on the Virginia side. I don't know about the MD side. (Oh, and aggressive driving carries a 3,000 fine).

Right back to the days of WS, J-mac would vehemently defend alot of the things GWB was doing, that Obama does today that he vilifies him for.

It`s always been his style.

It's always been the style of whoever supports the party that is out of power, whether it be Democrats or Republicans. Yes, Liberals tried to shut down Washington DC when Bush was in power. Conservatives bristled, and Liberals supported it. Today, the shoe is on the other foot. Some Conservatives are trying to shut down Washington DC. Liberals are bristling, and Conservatives are supporting it. It's all about the politics, and nothing else.

Looks like the whole Truckers Blocking DC thing was a publicity scam

Trucker backs off Beltway protest - The Hill's Transportation Report

A truck driver who called for protesting the government by backing up the Capitol Beltway says he made the threat to attract media attention.

Georgia-based truck driver Earl Conlon, who was behind the group “Truckers for the Constitution,” told The Washington Post he was hoping to use the threat of shutting down the Beltway to highlight the industry's frustration with federal regulations.

"The comments to U.S. News were designed to do one thing and one thing only: stir the feather of the mainstream media,” Conlon said. “Nothing gets the attention like the mainstream media, like some sort of disastrous threat. I knew it was going to ruffle some feathers.”

Really were members of groups on the left charged with kidnapping when they attempt to arrest people like Cheney, or Rove?

So I'm looking forward to you providing a link where anyone put their hands on Cheney or Rove to arrest them.

Conlon said, but "everybody that doesn't have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out."

"It's going to be real fun for anyone who is not a supporter," Conlon said

Bullying ordinary citizens to "send a message" to Congress...you wanna know how inclined I would be to support pro-trucker legislation if I got caught up in their intentional traffic jam? As if every single person in the entire D.C. metro area will have heard about this and decided fully whether they support or do not support the slow down. What an asshole.

Well said. I didn't agree with how the cops often handled OWS but I liked the OWS movement as far as its politics but didn't care for the obstruction stuff for the most part. It's just people screaming "Look at me!" more than it is doing anything for any cause that they say they support.

Anyone in here wanna guess what J-mac's interpretation of this event had it been "Teamsters plan to clog DC beltway declaring the antiunion policies are unconstitutional and plan to arrest congressmen"?

Would you say that about the civil rights movement?
