Israel attacks Council of Europe move to restrict male circumcision

I'm assuming back in Biblical times, people weren't educated and needed guidance and direction.

Perhaps, but the EU is mysteriously involving themselves in this issue now. It is sort of silliness we've come to expect from these self important and overpaid bureaucrats.

Indeed. Penis envy perhaps? ;)

Given the educational standards of the Jewish people, which seems highest in the world, I doubt they attach much importance to what non-Jews have to say.

You so silly.

Again, you're so silly...

The Council of Europe is not an EU institution.
Council of Europe != Council of the European Union.

You, Grant, show the distinct signs of ignorance I've come to expect from people like you and this thread is sadly infested with like-minded people who don't know basic stuff. I do suggest you and your ilk refrain from commenting on things that are clearly above your capabilities.

Indeed. Penis envy perhaps? ;)

This goes for you too. If you don't know the fundamentals of what you're discussing, you risk making a fool of yourself, which you have, in this thread, repeatedly. You and your ilk always contribute nothing of substance to the discussion.

Does this law ban European 10-12 year old girls from having their ears pierced ?
Does it ban younger kids from having their ears pierced ?

Read the proposal. It's there in the OP.

You so silly.

Excuse me...wtf are you babbling about?

Excuse me...wtf are you babbling about?

I'm not babbling about anything. But tell you what, don't bother wrapping your head around big complex ideas. Stick to the basics. In your mind, proposals can be laws and the Council of Europe can be the same as the Council of the European Union and circumcision can be this magical ritual that babies love to get... or something. You know ,living the magical land of make-belief where no knowledge is required to participate. Just keep yapping. And take Grant with you so you can yap with one another while you pad each other on the back and compliment each other on your circumcised penises.

You've obviously got me confused with someone else or you've misinterpreted what I've said. Either way.....eat me.

If its there I didn't find it...
All I see is talks about circumcision and female genital mutilation

Do you need me to spoon-fed you?
The report highlighted female genital mutilation but also referred to ritual male circumcision and other practices.
Member states should therefore consider the impact of non-medical interventions in light of the child's best interests in order to define lines of action, the resolution said.

Countries should also define the medical and other conditions to be ensured for certain religious practices "such as the non-medically justified circumcision of young boys".

Now you tell me buddy boy, which part of the god damn news makes you think that any of things you said above:

How is any of the things you said valid as observations?
First off, the god damn news report clearly tells you, in writing:
The 47-nation Council of Europe adopted a non-binding resolution this week that urged a public debate on "non-medically justified operations and interventions" on children
The Council promotes democracy and human rights in Europe but does not make laws and has little power to enforce its recommendations.

So it's NOT a law. Read the And it has no mention of the ears piercings for kids, now does it?

So instead coming here with nothing of any value to contribute, much like Grant or WCH or others, why don't you make informed posts huh? Do you get a laugh out of being clueless? I mean I know reading is hard. It is. Especially when you're completely biased like a lot of people are. But I managed to learn to read and write perfectly in 2 languages by the age I was 8. It's not that hard to read a 1 page news and comment in an informed fashion, now is it?

You've obviously got me confused with someone else or you've misinterpreted what I've said. Either way.....eat me.

Alright. Don't worry buddy boy, I got yer number right here.

You so silly.

An inarticulate response you must use often.

The Council of Europe is not an EU institution.
Council of Europe != Council of the European Union.

Who really cares? It's just another huge fumbling bureaucracy, this time from EU Department of Foreskins, which the Europeans seem to love.

Of course you don't care. Why bother getting your facts straight and commenting in the know. That's for reasonable people. Biased hacks don't need facts, you just need the FEELS. It's not the logical arguments, the fact-based arguments that count, it's the FEELS with you lot.

You're the punchline to a joke mate. And the person telling the joke is life itself. It dealt you bad logic.

You seem to have the straight facts covered.

I suppose what we can take away from this conversation is that a European bureaucracy feels strongly about foreskins, want to take the problem in hand and bring it to a head. I'm certain they'll eventually have a solution.

Ok. Your mind is made up. It's made up of imaginary facts and biased opinion and no level of fact-based information and logic will get to you. You can't even read the news report and absorb the information there, how the hell are you going to manage to dispense comments worthy of my input. I'm done with you in this topic.

Stick to the FEELS. Don't ever abandon the biased prejudice, it's the only thing keeping you functionable. Well, functionable by your standards... not mine. By my standards you're useless in this debate or any debate.

Rainman...you taking steroids? They make me pissy as hell, the same way you are acting today.

Alright. Don't worry buddy boy, I got yer number right here.

My understanding is that the whole debate here is whether or not such a law should be legislated. My questions are pointed towards such a law.
The EU resolution used a vague definition "non-medically justified operations and interventions" (ear piercing falls under such definition?) but gave only 2 clear examples for what falls under this definition, hence my questions.

You're not even trying aren't you?

The Council of Europe is not an EU institution. The Council of Europe != The Council of the European Union.

really, this is the 2nd or 3rd time I am telling you this and you still haven't registered.

Also, this law is not about ears piercing. You look at the article, no questions about ear piercing. And most people (usually girls) get their ears pierced when they're 12 or or 13 -> they can speak by that point. It's also not the same organ in question. The lobuli is not a vital organ, and also, it regenerates... well, up to a point. So you're not asking questions that make sense, you're just trying to derail the thread with senseless questions that are both off topic and irrelevant.

Israel attacks Council of Europe move to restrict male circumcision | Reuters

Well first off, the council of Europe doesn't make laws. this is just a resolution. It's a recommendation basically.
I personally agree, I think the whole male circumcision thing is barbaric at best. A savage practice that we can dispense from now, in this day and age.

I'm not against having men circumcised if they want to when they're past 18 years old and legally adults but not before they can speak and understand what is happening to them.

The funny thing is israels' reaction the suggestion. I mean talk about overreaction. This law won't affect israel. And I know what you're thinking, it will affect jews in Europe. But jews in europe that are not israelis are not Israels' duty to represent. They have their own representatives.
And the religious argument doesn't matter here. It doesn't matter if your religion says this is important or not, religion does not play a hand in matters of governance. You obey the laws of the land first and you observe your religious practices in religious locations.
If you make a religion that demands that you kill someone every solstice, you will go to prison for murder. Now I'm not comparing circumcision with murder, I'm just pointing out that the law of the land is what counts and religious rituals that are against the law are religious rituals that must be abandoned. But this isn't the case yet with circumcision, as I said, this is just a resolution, not a law. The council can't make laws.

"srael on Friday accused a leading European human rights body of fostering hatred and racism in calling for the circumcision of boys on religious grounds to be monitored more closely."

That was a biased argument off the bat no?

But you're not against circumcision.

So that the **** is the point (if any at all) of this article - which is most likely propaganda.

BTW, I'm not Jewish and I am Circumcised.

As a matter of fact a circumcised penis carries less diseases - like HPV - potential aids - et all nasty ones.

Since our government likes to shoot babies up with vaccines - wouldn't circumcision lead to less STD's in the US and around the world.

Or does our government (progressives) need disease to flourish for political reasons....

I would love hear Nancy Pelosi's take on this or maybe Ms Clinton.

I'm sorry, I don't follow. What is your point? And no, this is crap.

There is no real reason to circumcize children. It's all non-sense and all done for dogmatic, religious reasons.

Medically it rids the penis of viruses and and bacterias...

I absolutely understand the traditional values you adhere to and respect them but.

I suppose this study was done on promiscuous men in Africa and the study of their "foreskin."

Obviously a a child raised in a "2-parent home" (or even in the US) drops dramatically.

The study is obviously misleading given no culture reference but- the one proven fact was that the uncircumcised penis was more subject to sexually transmitted diseases than a circumcised penis.

I had braces when I was a kid and they hurt a hell of a lot more than something I don't remember as a baby. Guess that barbaric practice out to be outlawed as well.

Lol! Comparing circumcision to braces is flat out retarded. Braces are meant to straighten teeth, while the foreskin is a specialized sexual organ with many functions and causes lose of function and other side effects when removed. Oh and btw, you can't actually reconstruct it since it's unique tissue.

Medically it rids the penis of viruses and and bacterias...

Lol! No, it doesn't. Removing the foreskin removes good bacteria and the self cleaning function of the foreskin, which in turn increases the amount of bad bacteria.

Or just out of ignorance or belief in myths.

Why don't you learn up on the practice, what the foreskin actually does, and what occurs when it is removed before you go around calling government action silly.
