So they had the meeting and apparently it lasted for about an hour and half....so they must have talked about something. But I don't know, it doesn't look very promising judging by the separate press conferences that Reid, Pelosi and Boehner just had.

Here is how it went

Obama: Ted Crus is an idiot.
Boehner: I know but he got me a two for one at the tanning booth.
Ried: Really I like Cruz that dip he brought at the last meeting was great!
McConnell: meep meep meep meep.
Obama: So how can we end this/
Ried: Hey McConnell make sure Cruz brings the dip to the poker game.
Boehner: I dunno?
McConnell: Meep Meep Meep Meep!
Boehner: I need a drink hey Barack wanna go play golf Saturday we aint got nothing better to do.

The mandate is unpopular. Virtually every other part is quite popular when you actually ask people questions about things the bill actually does.

(rather than, say, making up stories about death panels and congressional exemptions)

Do you find it odd that Republicans want to repeal a measure that nudges people towards self responsibility and penalizes those who steal insurance money?

"President Barack Obama has invited congressional leaders to the White House to discuss the government shutdown and the debt ceiling, according to spokeswoman Amy Brundage.

Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calf., have been asked to attend a meeting at 5:30 p.m.

So far the shutdown has seen a surprising lack of communication among the top leaders, with Boehner demanding the president agree to roll back the Affordable Care Act and Obama and Reid refusing to consider any such concessions under threat of shutdown or default.

Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck released a statement welcoming the invite: “We’re pleased the president finally recognizes that his refusal to negotiate is indefensible. It’s unclear why we’d be having this meeting if it’s not meant to be a start to serious talks between the two parties.”

LOL. Why anyone believes anything he says is beyond me.
Leave the government shut down until funding ObamaCare is off the table.

Shut the government down any and every time a UHC funding bill is up for vote.

Once that's acomplished, shut the government down untill all Czars are removed.

Then shut the government down and audit the Fed.

Then shut the government down untill all US forces are out of afghanistan.

Then shut the government down and abolish the IRS.

Then shut the government down and abolish the ATF.

As you can see I'm not a big fan of the government up and running in the first place. Shut it down and leave it off forever.

I visited that site twice yesterday and 3 times today. I never once attempted to sign up. Moral of the story...just because a site is visited does not mean that those that visited it signed up for it.

The legislature negotiates the direction and content of a bill before it becomes a law. Not to negotiate laws in place. Laws are in place. Especially ones upheld by the SCOTUS. Once that happens and legislators want to amend or change it... they introduce a bill with the changes and THAT gets negotiated.

This crap republicans are pulling is ridiculous. They framed this bullcrap "debate/negotiate an already established law" topic and at the very same time are denying responsibility for what they fabricated by saying it's the Dems fault.

As for those of you who espouse how the majority of American's are opposed to Obamacare... Jimmy Kimel exposed you guys big time:

I hope the first words out of our President's mouth are "So how's that govt shutdown thingie working out for *you*?"

How can you possibly read? Is there light in there?

Congratulations on one the greatest quips I've seen recently. I may have to borrow it... :lamo:lamo:lamo

In theory. But we know that in the case of obamacare, nobody read the whole thing before voting it into law. This law is therefore less firmly established than the slavery law that Democrats defended in 1860 or the segregation laws they defended in 1960.

What's your point? For some reason I don't think you are confirming what the GOP did, which is what you typed out.

they are not trying to accelerate it the are trying to save the public from it that the majority of America wants

Oh, that's what you are doing. Saving us from ourselves. I've heard that before, I think it is in the communist manifesto. Are you a pinko?

LOL. If he did such a thing it would be in a strictly controlled environment.

But the partial shutdown is working out just fine for me and the vast majority of Americans. But the Dems insist on hurting as many as possible.

I wouldn't negotiate with Obama****.....

What the House proposed was MORE than reasonable..... The House isn't going to fund Obamacare..

We call this a "Red Line" Mr. Obabbles...

You have it backwards. It is Obamacare that seeks to save us from the consequences of our own decisions. :doh

Shutting down the government over funding a law that was passed 5 years ago and upheld by SCOTUS because you don't like the law is reasonable? You're entitled to your irrational beliefs and biased opinions, and even your hatred of elected officials. But if you want to engage in debate, you have to make some sort of logical sense if you expect anyone to respect your opinions. You might want to pass that along to your elected officials as well.....

So I suppose 9 individuals are the real dictators of this country then???

Let me guess the SCOTUS don't judge based on personal politics???

You're not even in the realm of my understanding of politics and legislation....

The Iraq war was also LARGELY not supported by the people. So do you think the government should make decisions based on polls?

You have it backwards. It is Obamacare that seeks to save us from the consequences of our own decisions. :doh

Then get the votes to repeal it. Wait, the freaks in the House tried that over 100 times and failed.

Looks like conservatives keep losing, and now want to punish America for not buying into their bizarre memes and obsessive Obamaphobia.

So you think we should govern by polls now?

Another dishonest tea party meme. Using this dishonest argument, you should have urged the Democratic Congress to hold Bush's budget hostage until he ended the Iraqi war because it was of course massively unpopular according to every poll.

So did you call for that, or are you just pretending to make an argument like tea partiers tend to do?

yes they should have.
I was against the Iraq war
just because I have "right" beside my political leaning doesn't mean im a partisan ideologue sycophant hack like most left leaning forum members

and if the democrats would have done so I would have agreed with them doing It. but it wouldn't have happened because 111 democrats voted for the war
